Service was pretty bad. And the restaurant was empty. Not sure why.
Terrible service. Rude wait staff. We didn't eat so I can't review the food.
Great drinks, awesome live music, fine food (nothing exceptional) and TERRIBLE service (except for the host/hostess who was delightful. Waiter couldn’t give a hoot about whether we had drinks or food let alone the check. Disappointing.
Awesome food! Kind of loud, but a cool hip place.
I feel like they are not working that hard on service. Interestingly Cafe No Se does. The food was ok, but not fabulous.
Waiters sucked! Manager was nice but service was horrible
Hostesses should find another job, no restaurant deserves to have these kind of employees.
We went with a group for a bachelorette and it was a great lunch spot!
Very laid back atmosphere, great service, excellent cocktails. Food not over-portioned. Oysters were yummy.
We were looking forward to a great experience based on the great service at the bar and host stand while we waited for our table. The food did not disappoint; however, our wait service bordered on neglect. Our drinks and app were transferred from the bar when our table became available. Perhaps our server thought that was all we were going to have but we weren’t even given utensils and napkins until we waved her down some 15 minutes later to request them and to ask to order dinner.
I made this reservation selecting the option to use a $25 Open Table reward. After getting a deer in the headlights look from the server, she went to ask the manager what to do with the reward card I showed from my phone and informed us, “we don’t participate in Open Table rewards.”
On the basis of the food, bar service and host, we would return. They collectively compensated for the strike from the server; we’ll give the benefit of the doubt that it just happened to be a bad night for her. Three out of four is not a home run but enough to warrant another at-bat.
This was a terrible and very expensive meal. The wait staff was so slow, forgot items frequently, was even hard to find when we needed them. Plus the food was mediocre at best - there must have been a change in ownership because the menu changes reflect a very different approach. Unfortunately, this low quality did not reflect on the bill - it was SO expensive for what we got. Will not be returning anytime soon even though this used to be a favorite of mine!
Terrible attention to detail. Our entree came out before oysters and salad. Not water ever refilled. The waiter came back only once after the food was all served basically at once. There were so many plates sitting on the table empty. I had to eat my meal off to the side because I had a giant plate of eaten oysters in front of me. It was expensive, 70 dollars for the 18 oysters and they were average. The meal was really average too. Cold food when it was meant to be hot. They were irritated with us when we mentioned having our entrees first. The entire experience was not good and the atmosphere was loud.
Took grandparents here for graduation brunch with the family and the environment was definitely not right for that. Party music was too loud, they don’t have any coffee drinks other than drip (which confused me bc the whole staff was drinking lattes from mañana next door so I thought surely they had a collab going on), and the service was not very attentive. Food was mediocre. Maybe would recommend before a day of drinking w friends but that’s it
We went for brunch and our food was less than impressive. My eggs were overcooked, mushrooms were tasteless, they messed up one of our orders entirely and we got fries instead of a salad, and the service was very slow. Not worth the money.
Food was good and service was great!
Had the fish and chips and my friend had a salad. Both were tasty. Drinks were pricy, small, but well-done. We enjoyed the open air and sights of SOCO which are showing some signs of life.
The menu is limited and consists of well done bar food. Our service was oddly timed (one person got their entree maybe 5 minutes before everyone else). The restaurant is loud but beautifully decorated. Great scene.
Their HH is one of my favorites in town 1/2 off bottles of wine and $3 oysters.
Delicious food, fantastic drinks, delightful staff.
Great food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. The oysters were delicious and our waitress, Samantha, was so much fun - she made our experience very memorable and nice.
Service was terrible, felt like the servers were annoyed when we asked for pepper and butter for our brunch. Eggs were over cooked and the whole brunch dish was a weird combination of food. The music was loud and a bad playlist, overall a bad experience.
Good. The noise level indoors was loud & maybe the music should have been turned down to accommodate for people’s conversations.
It was good, appetizers were great but the main entrees were lacking in variety.
Very nice time!
Service was great the entire time. Great outdoor seating.
With covid the menu was insufficient... 3 out of the 5 main dish options where sandwiches/burgers... then there was fish and chips. We told our waitress Samantha how disappointed we were with the small menu and then upon leaving we noticed there was a sign with a nice ribeye option as a special. Samantha did not mention that to us at all. I also mentioned that it was my dads birthday and nothing was done for his birthday... not that I was expecting much but Samantha didn’t even review/ask us if we wanted dessert. She just immediately handed us the check once we were nearly done eating our main meals. Central standard was one of my favorite spots pre covid as it had such a great menu... but with its limited menu and poor waitstaff, I will not be returning anytime soon.
great spot for a brunch. The food is rich and full of flavor.
I have been going to this place for years but after Covid it looks like they have many problems. They had a mistake on the menu which is not a big deal but we ordered a burger and fries for $19 and the fries were cold and tiny like they were left over. The burger also tasted terrible because of the way that was cooked inside on the fire pit. Tasted more like barbecue. It was just very strong. When I told the server she told the manager which was a good thing but the manager came over and didn’t bring a new batch of fresh hot fries or offer to take anything off the menu. The server took forever to come back with our bill. Not a good experience and there’s so many fantastic restaurants on the street. We actually left and had another meal a block away. We would’ve stayed an ordered more but absolutely underwhelmed.
Central Standard is always a favorite! The staff goes above and beyond, and the food and drink selection is delish. Great patio and always playing great tunes!
Great neighborhood restaurant. Love the outdoor space and there was a wedding we got to watch in the courtyard. Food, service, vibe...all great!
Burgers were a bit overpriced but overall we really enjoyed it!
Perfect COVID safe atmosphere outside. The heaters were also great.
Menu is surprisingly limited, as in 4-5 main dishes.
Lovely wait staff, so helpful and kind. The cheesy broccoli dip thing is delicious.
Celebrated our friend's engagement. The staff was both professional and playful. Great recommendations on drinks and did a great job updating orders to accommodate our group of 5 people.
Unfortunately the kitchen was out of many of the ingredients we wanted in our food (oysters, mushrooms, avocado, etc.) It was a hassle not to be able to have what we wanted, but our waiter was very accommodating and understanding. He took good care of us on the bill and hooked up a nice baked cookie to make the experience a little sweeter ;) The food we did have was great and we love the design of the space.
We will not return here! The service was poor (On a busy day in south downtown Austin, only two wait staff?), the staff wasn’t very friendly and very inconsistent with information when asking questions, and the food was okay. All in our party, including me, were still hungry after spending about $50 for our meal and drinks.
I’ll start this review off by saying that I understand that during Covid, times are tough and there are some challenges. What could have been better is when I called at 7:45 to say that I was running a few minutes late for my 8pm reservation and to check-in with the hostess, she let me know that the kitchen was closing at 8:50. I thought that was thoughtful of her to let me, however, that was not the case. We arrived at 8:15, sat down at our table and was told (by the person who brought us waters, who we later figured out was our server), that the kitchen was closing and to place our full order immediately. We were not able to order anymore food or drinks from that point moving forward. Had I known this, I would not have kept my reservation. I was hosting some friends from out of town that are HUGE foodies and love to try new restaurants. I would have made a reservation at a different restaurant that closed later, to accommodate dinner. Our plan was to wine and dine for a couple hours, but instead we were rushed and forced to eat & get out! The server asked if we wanted to place an order for multiple drinks and we said yes, in which case he poured all of our drinks at once and brought them out to the table all at once, rather than spacing them out as needed throughout dinner. Overall the server was short and not informative about the menu, specials or happy hour. Typically your server greets you, introduces themselves & lets you know about the specials & any happy hours. It really seemed like we were huge inconvenience, in which case, I guess we were because they were closing even earlier than quoted. South Congress Hotel is my favorite hotel in Austin, I cannot praise it enough, however, this was a huge disappointment! The menu has also been modified and it’s more like upscale bar food. I was really looking forward to having some fresh oysters and champagne, but they were out [of both]. I hope service improves so I can continue recommending it.
Great vibes at the Central Standard. Popular brunch spot but also great for a date night. I debated between 3 and 4 stars because of the food. The food was just okay. The meatballs were dry and over cooked. Service was also slow, but it was a busy Friday night. Those who had the burger said it was good.
