Catch Oyster Bar Ratings and Reviews
Like the ambience at Catch. Staff were good...hostess was great... but very sad to see the scallop starter I liked (lite meal after several apples!) had been discontinued. (We had a few tempera shrimp and 18 oysters to share before ordering our entrees.)
I only discovered this after I ordered the one main that had scallops thinking it must be the dish I'd ordered a few times before) It wasn't. Although the scallops (plentiful) were delicious the dish itself was totally uninspiring! It was devoid of colour except for the 8 or so green string beans draped across the 'vanilla' (why?) flavoured risotto surrounded on outside by about 7 decent sized scallops. The risotto flavour was a surprise and ok but I would not order it again. The Asian inspired scallop starter should be returned to the menu! Promptly! Make it an entree if you wish..?
My husband had snapper and the other gentleman had halibut ... but such a tiny portion. Neither were served vegetables that were anything like what came with the steak my lady friend ordered... lovely!
Presentation is paramount to enjoyment of a meal. Adequate portions is up there there as well. The
desserts were delicious. Creme brûlée and Brownie... to share for 4. Thank you...
Exceptional restaurant. We visit Calgary just to go to The Oyster Bar. The staff are always very friendly and the service is excellent. The food is wonderful and we love the oysters and mussels. You never feel hurried and we love watching the chefs cooking in the open kitchen.
Our experience at oyster bar was really good. Our appetizers and dessert were wonderful! Both of our entrees were ok. Over cooked fish and bland scallops. Maybe we just chose the wrong entrees. I would definitely go back, but would just do drinks and appitizers. The oysters were fantastic!
The food was spectacular! Happy hour was a great advantage with including the Prawns, raw oysters, Prosseco and draft at excellent prices. Our server was personable, had great energy and was very attentive! Overall excellent experience and I look very forward to returning!
We enjoyed our meal and the service was fantastic. I had the half lobster and was told that the lobster was half a 1.25 or 1.5..the tail was literally 3 bites and the claw was small. We have lobster quite often and I would call this one 1 lb..but overall..great night!
Solid on all fronts. Good service, which tolerated a long 3+-hr dinner/meeting which slowed them down. food was very good - from the tasty fresh oysters to the excellent swordfish on white bean and chorizo cassoulet base. Dining guest also enjoyed their Arctic char dish (looked nice0 and chocolate Grenache dessert was very good too. A bit pricey, but they deliver on quality and service. Recommended without any hesitation.
We've been going to the Oyster Bar at The Catch for many years Normally the food is okay and we've kept coming back because of the quality of the oysters. Our most recent experience was by far the best. We started with a dozen East coast oysters and for mains we had the lobster, the king cod and the Provençal cassoulette. The cassoulette was the best of the three, but each main was superb. The cod was cooked to perfection and the sides were delish! When I made our reservation I made a note of a poultry allergy which they confirmed upon arrival and were very accommodating. I was very pleased with our meal there and will more likely to return sooner rather than later.
I went back to Catch a second time because the Manhattan Clam chowder was so good and I wanted to introduce my friend to it.
It was sub par and no where near to what I had tasted a year before.
Also, even though I had reserved a table, we were given a table at the back of the restaurant , but there were several empty tables in the central area. When I asked our host if we could have one of the more central tables I was told that they are reserved. Open Table does not give the option to reserve a certain table, so that was a wishy washy response and other than the bad clam chowder, left me with a 'bad taste' . I will not be back.
We enjoy Catch, especially their oysters. I think the best in the city. The ambiance is modern bright and energetic. Always lots of privacy in the booths. My partner thoroughly enjoyed the Arctic Char dish - he said the best yet. Nicely presented with lots of colour and taste. My dish on the other hand was a complete disappointment - Thai curry fish bowl. The fish included in the bowl were tasty and plentiful, but sadly immersed in very non-appealing greyish looking slop of broth and overly cooked vermicelli mush Not appetizing at all. The presentation (and colour) of the broth may need a little improvement - esp for the price. Overall a good experience. We will still return but will stick to wine, your great beer list and wonderfully succulent west-coast oysters.
Mussels and more mussels in the Green Thai Curry, Cilantro and Coconut Milk. Delicious, steamed mussels in this light green curry broth. The restaurant provided a small loaf of bread that you could sop up the delicious broth. I would definitely come back just for the Mussels!!
My friend ordered the Ling Cod burger and a clam chowder as her choice of side. She liked what she ordered.
I had been to the Catch Oyster Bar many times before but it had been awhile since the last visit. I had always enjoyed the food there previously. Their signature starter - wonton-crusted tempura shrimp - are not like they used to be. Instead of being coated in small wontons these were coated in HUGE wontons and that was all you could taste - wish they go back to their original way. I had artic char and the fish was nicely cooked but they added a very sweet sauce to the dish that totally overtook all the other flavors. A little of the Saskatoon berry gastrique would have been fine but this was too much, the sweetness left my mouth feeling like I had eaten a dessert. The veggies that came with the meal were nicely cooked and the green beans were a little crunchy as I like them, but again that sauce overpowered any flavor of the veggies. Too bad! I have always enjoyed the Catch but this time was very different. Wine was good. Service was lacking. Tried to get our waitress' attention for some pepper, we ended up asking another waitress who sent our waitress over. Not a good experience this time.
