Cascades - The Stanley Hotel Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed a pleasant and outstanding dinner at Cascades. We've enjoyed excellent meals here before and were looking forward to another delicious meal. We shared the Foie Gras appetizer, it was delicately seared and came with whiskey poached cherries, it was exquisite! Unfortunately they were out of the Elk loin and we ordered the filet mignon instead. It came with a crispy potato rösti, some spinach and truffle béarnaise and bordelaise sauces, the beef was perfectly cooked and very tender. Much to my husband's surprise and delight the Whiskey Bar carried Hibiki, his favorite whiskey. Service was very friendly and professional, all in all a perfect dinner.
Probably the best filet I've had in a long time. Perfectly cooked and placed on top of a crisp rosti potato stack. The ingredients stated it was served with spinach, but the spinach was actually between the steak and potato, so there was scant spinach. Next time I would order a vegetable on the side.
They have the best and smoothest martinis!
Our server, Bobbye was horrible! We brought a group of 14 senior citizens in for a tour and lunch and she nearly ruined our afternoon. She was rude and acted like we were an imposition. I allowed her to include 20% gratuity to make sure she was tipped correctly rather then receive loose change which has been the case in the past with this group, yet she didn't deserve it at all. She should not be in the service industry.
The food was delicious, service was wonderful, and the portion and quality of meat was about right for the price. However, the portion of vegetables was ridiculously small. My meal was described as including fingerling potatoes, edamame, and several other vegetables. I swear there was only one little cut up potato and 4 or 5 soy beans with equally skimpy portions of the other vegetables. A handful of mixed vegetables was not at all what the menu suggested and I shouldn't feel the need to order more food just to feel satisfied at the end of such an expensive meal. I'm a small person so it's not like I eat a lot anyway but this meal left me wanting more.
My husband and I had breakfast and dinner at Cascades. Dinner was okay. Disappointed that they ran out of elk steak by 7 pm. Breakfast had very slow service- half cups coffee with cream 10 minutes later despite reminders. Refills also slow. Toast served after meal was partially eaten and we're told they ran out of English muffins by 930 am. Service could be improved. No one said thank you.
Service was horrid. At breakfast - only a dozen tables in the restaurant and we waited 10 minutes to get water and coffee. Server never came back to refill coffee - fortunately another server took pity on us and filled me up. Food was WAY to heavily salted. The Eggs Benedict was like a salt like. The biscuits and gravy was strange, almost as if made with Italian sausage rather than breakfast sausage. Honestly - for 3 people to have breakfast, the bill was high and the service and food were not worth it.
Best meal and best overall dinner experience in Estes Park during recent vacation. Polite, quick service without being intrusive despite the dining room being full. My elk loin dinner and cocktails were superb. Will definitely go back again and hope to spend time enjoying drinks at outside fire tables too!
The restaurant was nice and the service was good. We were a table of 6 and the food was OK, but nothing special. The burger was very good. The rest of the food was just OK, but could not recommend the chicken wings. They were mediocre at best!
I would go back because of the "provenance" of the hotel, but I would not go out of my way to order the food. It was noisy, but it was lunchtime!ll
The grounds are beautiful and the hotel was lovely. Great pictures were taken on property!
We were a little late for our brunch appointment, and the hostess said grumpily, "You're late!" The restaurant was not full. However, everyone and everything after that moment was sheer perfection. The potatoes were unusual and delicious, and the omelet delighted with its touch of bleu cheese, as suggested by the server. We enjoyed the mimosas as well. We will definitely return on our next trip to Estes Park.
Dinner was fabulous. We had foie gras with poached cherries, my husband had bison meatballs with mancheago polenta, the flavors were so tasty. Both were superb. Dinner consisted of hanger steak with caramelized brussel sprouts & an elk steak with red wine demi glaze. Dessert was blueberry crumble. The entire dinner was outstanding. The steaks were done to perfection. The dining room atmosphere was spooky, the architecture was amazing & relaxing. It was our 20th anniversary and they treated us extra special. The Server was so friendly and efficient.
The food was outstanding, but the ambience was awful. We ate there for a special occasion and it really looked elegant, plus the menu was interesting. The elk tenderloin was outstanding, and the fois gras was to-die-for. The restaurant was extremely noisy and if you can handle that along with everyone in shorts, flip-flops, etc, then this is the place.
The food that we had was excellent, but the wine was way over priced. The wine by the glass was an absolute rip-off.
It's the Stanley! Fair comparison with other similar establishments in metro areas for my family and I says they are "good," but being in Estes Park, at the famed hotel, at the doorstep to the Rockies, boosts the overall experience to being "very good." Parking for us was free with 7:30 reservations. Hotel and restaurant is a short stones throw from town (nothing like the movie).
For drinks, my wife had a "Red Rum," which tasted bitter but for some will be fine if they are not expecting a sweet drink as my wife was. I had the Old Fashioned, which was so good, I had a 2nd for dessert.
Main entrees and appetizers were delicious. Hanger Steak was great. Filet Mignon and Colorado Game Meatloaf were similar. Appetizers were almost too pretty to eat but we did and they were good too. One appetizer was a unique vege "garden tempura" of sorts with a combo of unique fresh vegetables and flowers." Awesome! Meatball appetizer was good, not great.
Reservations in season are a must. We made ours a couple months ahead of time. Overall, would recommend, particularly to experience at least once as an Estes Park visitor.
Thank you, Cascades and the Stanley!
We had a really good experience at Cascadess. The only complaint I have is that we felt rushed. If we are going to spend 93 dollars on just the dinner, not including tip, I expect not to be rushed through. Very friendly wait staff. My big complaint would be regarding the bartenders. We came in around 9 pm for a nightcap and dessert only to find the bartenders were also enjoying a nightcap while they were working. We watched them slam a few drinks back.
this beautiful historic hotel is a must see. dinning here was very nice but i felt that the hostess did not do a great job of seating us when we notified her of our arrival. she said it would be 3 or 4 minutes but proceeded to seat others w/out even making eye contact w/me. after 10 minutes i had to ask if our table was ready and she said "of course".
food portions were a bit scarce. i get it though. upscale dining usually is. will return when visiting again.
Very welcoming of my service dog Jacob the Pug and the hostess seated us without hesitation. The lounge area was a nice introduction to the dining area and helped create a festive mood. My server Natale was top notch. The food was outstanding in presentation and quality. Everything I would hope for in a special dining experience was to be had at The Cascades.
Very disappointing! Elk was child size portion and under seasoned! Duck was dry and the risotto was raw and inedible! Short rib was dry and under cooked! We waited a long time for our food which would have been ok if the food was ok.Waitress was grouchy until she put the bill down! Sad!!!!
We did the 6pm ghost tour and then had dinner at 8pm. The menu is diverse and the server was very helpful with suggestions. It is probably more on the expensive side, but the food was very good. White table cloths and an old fashioned elegance compared to most of the restaurants in Estes, Co.
We wanted to eat at a special place the first night in Estes Park. Researching the place found that the Stanley Hotel played a part in Stephen King's book, The Shining. We decided to give the Cascades Restaurant a try even though there were signs of spooky events.
It was a very delightful place to eat. Outside the property was nice. It was raining but it gave it a more chilling feel. The parking lot was full but we found a spot.
Once seated by our hostess our waitress, Laurel, served us. Her attitude was good and made our dining experience one not to forget. Even the other servers were pleasant as well.
We decided on small plates with a main dish to share. They allowed us to share with no problems. The food was great and I hope to go back again soon!
From the moment we entered the dining room, we felt like we were going to get special treatment. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. She explained everything and allowed us time to decide without rushing us. The food was outstanding. Matthew, the manager, was very nice and made sure he stopped by each table to check on his customers. Kudos to everyone at the Stanley Hotel!
I would not go any where else in Estes Park. The Cascades offers a unique menu (inclusive of western bison and great seafood) with the best drink selection, including its trademark bacon bloody mary's. The service is impeccable, as the owners employ professional, patient, and multi-lingual staff. We book the Stanley hotel for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and special occasions and delight in the history-filled rooms, interesting tours, ambiance, and multi-lingual staff.
