Cascades - The Stanley Hotel Ratings and Reviews
We went there for our two year anniversary. Our server was excellent but the meatloaf had to be sent back three times because the center was cold. By the third time the mashed potatoes and carrots were cold. They didn't bother reheating or sending out a fresh plate. While we were waiting on the server to let him know about the cold meal, five other servers kept walking past without bothering to see what was the problem. Next time we go to the Stanley we'll dine in Estes first.
We have stayed at the Stanley 4 times now since our move to Denver last July and we have eaten at and thoroughly enjoyed Cascades every time as well. Their steaks are always cooked exactly as ordered and the homemade steak sauce is out of this world. On this night we had the special, smoked scallops, shrimp, and sausage in a tomato cream sauce and it was so delicious!! Depending on the time you are there, yes it gets lively and a little loud, but that is what I imagine F.O. Stanley wanted it to be when he built this grand hotel and I'm sure it was when he and Mrs. Stanley held their parties! The staff is always warm, knowledgeable, and very gracious! They have a nice wine list, extensive whiskey and scotch selection, and inventive cocktails!
Although we live only 30 minutes away, we consider the Stanley and Cascades special. Celebrating my wife's birthday with a night at the Stanley and dinner in Cascades, she had the garden salad and beef short ribs in a wild mushroom sauce, I had the smoked pheasant chowder and elk/buffalo/pork meatloaf also with wild mushrooms...done to perfection. Like other wine lovers, I look at the wine list first then the dinner menu...just seems like the right order to me. The selections from California (Russian River, Santa Lucia Highlands, and Napa) as well as France (Cotes de Beaune/Nuit) are notable and priced fairly. Only improvement? Service was a little rushed...and they slowed it down when we asked! Looking forward to our next visit!
Stanley Hotel is a venerable and lovely Estes Park landmark, and a special place to take out-of-Colorado guests. We had lunch late, about 2:15pm, so there was not a crowd. The service was good, and the food was good. One of our party said her steak was not cooked to her order and that it was tough, but she did not complain to the waiter, so did not give them a chance to correct her complaint. Even though I expected the prices to be expensive, I thought it was a bit pricey for what we got.
We had a very good meal, excellent service, and a memorable experience at Cascades. I only wish that the menu had been a bit more extensive and adventuresome, but its limitations forced me to order something I have not had in at least thirty
years - meaitloaf, but wow, was it good ( made on the premises from bison, elk, and pork). And my wife gave a big thumbs up on the trout.
All in all, well worth a visit.
My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Cascades and it was amazing! The setting was beautiful with our own private dinning area. The food was exceptional! I ordered the meatloaf and my husband had the center cut filet they were both perfectly cooked and tasted fresh. I don't think that I have had a more enjoyable evening! In addition the staff was friendly and helpful offering great suggestions for sauce, desserts and drinks!
Overall we had a very good meal and experience at The Cascades Restaurant at the Stanley Hotel. Brigit was very friendly, attentive, and helpful with our drink and meal orders. It was somewhat noisy, the bar area was packed (probably due to March Madness), but overall very enjoyable.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Stanley hotel. The restaurant was nice and quiet. The food was good to fair, the salmon was a bit dry and mine was extremely salty I ordered the red bird chicken. It was so salty I couldn't finish it! I told the waitress and she said okay I will go tell the chef and walked away I had to drink everyones water on the table because after I mentioned that we never got our glasses refilled either. For the price we paid, I didn't expect that. I was a little disappointed. She had no problem trying to add up on the extras though, salads and drinks and desserts to increase the bill. Left feeling less than impressed and with a lot less money in my wallet!
The food was fantastic! The service on the other hand could be improved. Our waitress was Tammy and she was no frills and looked as if we were troubling her by patronizing the Cascades. We were a group of four and were very excited to be visiting the historic Stanley Hotel but after we left we were all at the conclusion we could have gone without eating at the Cascades. Great food I would definitely recommend had it not been for the subpar wait staff. Next time I am in Estes Park I will skip the Cascades.
Everything was outstanding.
Our wait person, Birgit, made both evenings as close to perfect as can be achieved.
This restaurant, while in the Stanley, deserves to be a destination for fine dining regardless of where someone is staying. Our two day stay in the Stanley was simply not enough time to sample all the fare we wanted to try.
The food was 5 star quality (except the bread before dinner which tasted stale). We had the trout and a center cut filet. Pricing is great considering the quality of the food. The wine was also great. However, I am sad to say our waitress was pretty much non-existent, perhaps she was one of the famed ghosts at the Stanley. She was not attentive and offered no suggestions or information when asked about the menu. The experience as a whole wasn't really what we were expecting from such an acclaimed establishment.
This place is not kid friedly. We did ask the waitress for nachoes and she said that it was only for the bar side. She was kind and let us have it anyway. Which was good because my daughter only ordered a salad because what she could order from was not for her.
This was a very "happenning" place on a Friday night. It was the off-season, but you could not tell by the packed bar area, whcih surronds the dining area. The food was excellent! For first course, the Picked Tomato Salsd was beyond great. It was a perfect pairing with the goat cheese and bitter greens. I would love to get a jar of those tomoatos. The Lamb Shank was done perfectly and paired with a white bean ragout that made the dish complete. The filet was done to perfection and the potatoes were good.
The only down side is the integration of the bar area with the restaurant. It was a bit loud, and there was no noise attentuation between the two areas.
The food and reasonably priced wines makes this a place to return.
The hotel is beautiful and if you're staying there the restaurant is perfect. Good service, convenient, and nice without being too pretentious. I believe the food is pretty good. We both got the prime rib which was sub-par, especially for $25. I've had much better prime rib for lesser cost. However, the appetizer and side items were delicious so it may have just been the prime rib (and they put a sauce ON the prime rib that tasted like cheap, fruity, barbeque sauce).
Had a really good dinner experience in this restaurant, located in the historic Stanley Hotel. Food was great and our server, Birgit, delivered exactly the right amount of attention; not constantly interrupting but sensitive to when wine needed refilling and when plates needed to be removed. Never rushed and each course was delivered when we were ready, never too early. I did mention this was a special occasion in the reservation but that note was never acknowledged. Not that I ever want that "over the top" celebration thing but it would have been nice to have the occasion acknowledged by someone on the staff. We would definitely go back.
My wife and I had a great time. We had dinner and the waitress was fantastic. She cared what we thought of the food and was there when we needed something. She comped my wifes salad because there was to much dressing. She just did it without us saying anything. Everyone from the hostess to the servers were fantastic. Dinner was to die for. My wife had the short ribs, and I had the rib eye. Both were fantastic. We cleaned our plates. The next morning we had breakfast and again the hostess was great and the servers were great. The breakfast was good also. Defentily recommend it to everyone.
My husband and I ate at the Cascades restaurant for his 40th birthday. I have nothing bad to say about it at all. My husband ordered the pepper appetizer, and it was delicious! The bread for warm and moist. I had the kale salad, which was WONDERFUL. It would have been plenty for a meal in itself. I seriously thought about canceling my entree order, but figured it would be rude. I had the pecan crusted squash for dinner and it did not disappoint! Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, and our drinks were always filled. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience.
i usually classify restaurants either as good for their value or not. unfortunately, this restaurant would fall under the not good value for me. they are trying to be a fancy place, with more focus on presentation and quality than quantity of food. that's usually fine, but the prices should also reflect a little bit on the quantity as well. $9 for one piece of bruschetta is not a good value to me at all, no matter how good it tastes, which it wasn't good...the bread was super hard. and $15 for a burger and fries, it better melt in my mouth, which it didn't. i'd get a much better value elsewhere, or at least more food for the same price. not a place i'd recommend unless you like "fancy" food.
We were staying at the hotel and wanted to have a special birthday dinner at the Cascades. It was terrific. The food was excellent. They have the best Kale salad I've eaten to date. They also had a vegan entree that was excellent and sufficient for my husband. My trout was perfect. I don't think I found one bone . . how do they do that?
Had not been to Stanley in years as last experience was not good . This time food was excellent . Wine list was extensive. Filets were fork tender. We tried to talk to someone about a whiskey tasting but they were too busy to accommodate us - bummer. Would recommend to friends. It is noisy as bar and restaurant are on big room
Went here for Valentine's Day dinner while guests at the Stanley Hotel. $35 per person for a three-course prix fixe was a pretty good deal (apparently their normal Thursday night prix fixe is just $19!). Food was good but didn't knock our socks off. Highlights were a Brussels sprout salad with golden raisins, quinoa and Parmesan cheese, as well as a salmon dish in saffron broth. Great Pinot Noir wine recommendation made by our waitress. It was a nice touch for Valentine's Day to give everyone a complimentary glass of sparkling wine to start, but then it was cheap-o Freixenet. Also had breakfast here one morning, which was very good. As there aren't many restaurant options in Estes Park, this was definitely one of the best.
We had our Valentines Date at the Stanley Hotel last week and had a filet to die for. The service was so extraordinary that I felt like the only table in the place. We frequent the bar in the evening and meeting with friends and business colleagues is always enjoyable. The staff is dedicated to service and management assures a memorable experience.
