excellent Caribbean inspired food. cocktails are also excellent
The good was AMAZING. We ate and drank what was suggested by our server - and WOW! Cant wait to go back!
It was the last weekend of Mardi Gras- therefore a big bit of crazy, as one of the parades went right past the restaurant. The food and the server were excellent and everything came out from the kitchen in a timely fashion. The only problem was that the restaurant was allowing parade goers to use their bathrooms & this meant patrons had to wait 25-35 minutes to use the bathroom. Just enough time for your dinner to get ice cold! Need for better planning by restaurant
We weren't allowing all parade goers to use the restrooms, we required that people must purchase food or drink in order to use the restroom. It just happened that there were several thousand people on the streets and the number of people who chose to hang out at the bar was substantial. Had we just opened it up to the public, it would have been far far worse.
Did not honor reservation
We honor ALL reservations. We were fully booked and did have a table that evening that stayed for 3 hours which held up the reservation for 15-20 minutes, the party was informed of that and they decided to go to another restaurant. Unfortunately, sometimes there are situations beyond our control, it is unfortunate and we do everything possible to make it up. Had this party have waited for 15 minutes, they would have found that out.
Awesome food and amazing gluten-free options!
Good interesting food and good service.
This was a meal we will always remember. Brilliant execution of all types of flavors, savory, sweet and multi textured
Yum***. I had Rico and my husband had an unusual Brazilian flatbread that all kinds of ingredients that really worked to make
It a special experience
Came to Carmo for my birthday and had family style meal with friends. The service was fantastic and the food matched! It was a very chill atmosphere. I definitely plan to go back!
Drink order was incorrect, food was left standing in our view for quite a while and only served when asked. Reservation indicated three special occasions and until I said something no recognition happened. Overall it was a VERY disappointing meal. I was in tears at the end to see how all of my guests felt.
Food was great! Different menu but food was outstanding!
Every single dish we ordered (4 people, 6-8 dishes) was DELICIOUS but service was lacking so that it really lessened our enjoyment. They were easily able to accommodate 1 persons dietary restriction but we had to ask for utensils. And ask for napkins. And ask for drinks. And ask for check.... food was so good we will give it another try though.
I visited Carmo at the recommendation of a friend who lives in NOLA. I was looking for a place outside the FQ and this was perfect! Great, funky & fun space & atmosphere and amazing food! Eclectic and flavorful, everything was delicious! The Kottu was slightly spicy and savory at the same time, and the portion was huge. I also had the vegetable curry which was one of the best I’ve ever eaten. My friends all loved their entrees as well. Our server Lita was helpful and friendly and made the experience even more enjoyable. Carmo is definitely on my list to return to next time I’m in NOLA!
The food was excellent! We both eat Gluten Free due to allergies and had no issues at all! First table we were seated at was next to a VERY noisy party and the staff was quite gracious about moving us to a more quiet table. Loved it-will be back!
Amazing experience and great service . I really like this place.
Like you're in someone's kitchen - a very helpful staff makes dining here a pleasure - plus the sustainable cuisine is so delicious!
Variety of food options- all very delicious. I recommend the Rico, Fish Collar, Ceviche, and banquettes (so, the whole menu really). Very comfortable atmosphere with reading room and movie theater in the back. Good for large groups or date night.
Delicious food! The Coolinary menu is generous and has good variety. Service was a bit slow. The front part of the dining area was too warm to be fully comfortable.
Boat to table, small catch fish perfectly cooked. Good service. People seemed happy to be working there. Will go back. Highly recommend.
Carmo is a wonderful dining experience with lots of vegan options. Highly recommend!
A wonderful surprise! When our plans changed at the last minute and we wanted something light, we tried Carmo, close by and open when we needed. It was a fantastic early dinner with wonderful dishes, superb drinks, and excellent service. Everyone there was pleasant and welcoming; clearly service was only seconds away yet very mindful of our conversation. The weather was way too hot to try a few of the amazing-sounding dishes, so can’t wait to go back when it cools down a bit outside to try more of the menu. A nice change from the usual wonderful but more expected local fare.
Great vegetarian food from different parts of the world.
Love this place! Amazing food and atmosphere.
Our group of 7 had a great meal and great service from Leida! We enjoyed the many vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options and modifications available. Everything was so good!
We were in New Orleans on business and went to Carmo two nights in a row. Excellent food. Great service by Emma on the second night.
Delicious food with tons of vegan and vegetarian options, but plenty to satisfy us omnivores as well ;) Full bar with delicious house cocktails. A little pricey, but one of the best options for vegans/vegetarians in town. Service was friendly, but slow.
This is a great place to eat. Lots of options for vegans and vegetarians.
Great vegan options
Unique and healthy menu options for New Orleans! Loved the food options. Found their food booth the next day at Jazz Fest and tried the Brazilian cheese bread, which was delicious! In the restaurant, we had the sashimi starter which was very light and fresh. The daily special was a creole tomato fish and shrimp stew with basmati rice.... excellent choice.
Great meal with vegetarian options which is a rarity in Nola. Tropical menu with a variety of different fish pork dishes. Cocktails were great too. Very casual and festive.
The food was really good but the service.. bizarre!!
Amazing food with a lot of variety for people with special dietary needs. I need gluten free and it the selection was wonderful. If I lived in NO, I would be a regular here.
If visiting New Orleans and you get your fill of cajun and creole, this near the garden district will get you out of the French Quarter and please your palate with some really unique and tasty items. The shrimp spring rolls were fantastic and the noodle with chicken dish was delectable. Tried one of their speciality drinks and it was terrific.
Nice location near French quarter. Walking distance. But 1000 times better than French quarter food! World kitchen dishes. Veg and vegan friendly. We took our kids and it was literally the turning moment for our five year old who is now saying, even if it looks weird, you have to try it because it could be super yummy. And it was!!!
I came to Carmo with 2 friends, one of which is strict vegetarian. The food was excellent and maybe one of the best I had during my stay in New Orleans. I had one of the ceviches and the fish was fresh and very tasty. My friends were happy with their food too. However the service was really poor. I grew up in Europe, where rules about restaurant service are less strict than in the US, so I am pretty laid back when it comes to that. However:
1. Despite the fact that we made a reservation, we had to wait about 20 min to get seated and the hostess was annoyed when we asked how much longer it would take.
2. It took another 20 min for our waiter to come to our table with menus and he apologized because "I wasn't told I had a table over here".
3. We received our appetizers, finished it and then were brought cups and water, in that order.
4. I had to go ask the waiter for more water after we were done with our main course because he never came back to pour us some after the first time (no pitcher/bottle left for the table).
5. When we asked for a split bill, one of my friends received an alert on her phone that she had been charged double the amount. This was sorted out quickly, fortunately.
I don't know if it was just a bad day for them but I am sorry to say I have never had such a bad service experience at a restaurant before.
We are locals and love Carmo. I always request a particular table which we always get, but this visit the hostess failed to notice that we had requested that table and it wasn't available. That was disappointing.
A tropical gem, serving local sustainable, one of the best dining experiences you can have in New Orleans, like you're in their kitchen, obrigado!
Good food, small portions, high prices
Very diverse and interesting menu with many options for the gluten-free diner in our party. I’ll definitely be going back to try more of their menu.
Some of the most flavorful food I've had. Vegan/veggie options for most menu items. Really unique food
I was able to make a reservation for 9 people a few days ahead of time and the table was waiting for us when part of our party arrived. The service was slow; we waited 20 minutes before getting water and menus, which was OK since not everyone from our party had arrived yet. However, the service stayed slow; the food took a long time to come out and the waiter also took a long time to bring us our bill. Despite the service, the food was delicious--I had the "Rico" and it was quite flavorful and fresh. Portions weren't too large, either. I would certainly go back!
