About Carmine's - Washington DC
Carmine’s is a family style, value-driven restaurant concept with locations in NYC, NJ, Nassau Bahamas, and Washington DC. Restaurateur Artie Cutler created Carmine’s with one goal in mind: to open a restaurant that would serve every meal in the style of an Italian American wedding feast, featuring extra large portions of home-style antipasto, pastas, seafood and meat entrees served on extra large platters designed for sharing. Carmine’s is the perfect place to casually enjoy friends and family over great food and wine, with excellent service, the way it used to be at grandma’s house.

Carmine's - Washington DC Ratings and Reviews
I've been here twice before this past Saturday and each time, I've been very pleased. The ambiance of the place is what initially drew me in the first time. Very classy place, yet can be a on the casual side. The portions are enormous so you would definitely want to share. The staff is great. This past Saturday my bf and I went for my birthday. We made reservations and were pretty much seated right away. We both enjoyed the experience and food very much. The only thing I would say is that we had a vent above our table blowing cold air so although the food came out deliciously hot, it got cold very quickly. Still tasted yummy, we just ate a little faster. I would still go again as this was the first time that happened and the overall visit was still extremely pleasant. Also the waitress was very informed which was great since it was my bf's first time and had questions about the menu.
We have eaten at Carmine's in NYC, and following a recent move to Washington DC were excited to learn of the location here. We loved everything about our meal. Server was attentive without being intrusive. She was knowledgeable with the menu and wine list, as well as helpful with the gluten free options. Carmine's serves family-style and is a bit louder on the ambience scale but not overly, and it fits with the Italian feel of the restaurant. We will definitely be back and will recommend to friends.
Everything would have been great but was disappointed that they never sang birthday song for my kid.
I did put it my reservation that it was for my son’s birthday, also stated he is the tallest in our party.
When l saw them singing for the next seat my son looked thinking it was our table. Poor boy. We had our late lunch and left.
I took my wife and 14 friends and family to Carmine's to celebrate my wife birthday and had a great time and enjoyed the food and service. It was served family style and our waiter, Corona, was excellent and very patient in explaining the menu and making recommendations. Everyone enjoyed themselves.
Carmine's is a great family style restaurant. I am gluten free and never know what I'm getting into with new restaurants. The server was very knowledgeable and the options were plentiful. Between my husband and I we only ordered 1 chicken entree. This was one of the best Italian meals of our lives...and my mother in law is Italian. We can not wait to go back.
Well to begin with...I announced my name... Open Table reservation..9 PM NYE./..table for one. .
I made this reservation 6 months ago. I have been to the Carmines on the Upper West Side in NYC..They pressed the button I was a "no show"...I purchased a tab of $77.00. I was seated behind a work station (near the front door) for the waiter staff. I was always bumped when they used it. See photo...I asked for the empty table by the window I was told..that one was was a "special request"...I made my reservation 6 months ago. Where I was seated every time the front door open you felt the cold. In my Open Table Reservation I asked, no table by the front door, not by the kitchen, not by the restrooms... For some reason single diners always are seated at one of these locations. I ordered the stuffed mushrooms...meatballs and pasta..a glass of wine. The food was terrific...the dining experience was not. I invite the Carmines management to contact me. Work station photo below was 6 inches behind my seat...
We really enjoyed our evening dinner at Carmine's. They hosted 19 of our closest friends to ring in the new year with a delicious meal. The wait staff was great, the food was great, and we really enjoyed our own private room. If you are looking to host a big crowd and have a private touch of enjoying each others company, I recommend you check them out!
We had a reservation and checked in with the hostess (who was not very pleasant). We waited 20 minutes while she proceeded to seat every walk-in who came in. Defeats the purpose of making a reservation! The food was good; not great. I wish we could order an item off the menu that is suitable for one person and not an entire army. One appetizer cost over $30 and more than half wasn't eaten by our table of 4. The portions are ridiculously huge and a waste of money. The wine is overpriced, but I guess that's typical of a D.C. restaurant. The server was pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu.
I was TERRIBLY disappointed in the food at Carmine’s DC. I visit Carmine’s NY (Upper West Side) annually with family and friends because we love the food and family style dining. In DC the penne ala vodka was bland and more than al dente, shrimp parmigiana was over cooked and appeared to be reheated with an extra layer of cheese and the broccoli was burnt. Chicken parmigiana and Caesar salad was good and we were grateful to be seated in a semi-private room. I didn’t complain because it was my 50th birthday celebration and we didn’t have time to request fresh dishes be prepared as we were going to a concert in the area. Carmine’s is way too expensive to not have good tasting and well prepared food. Unfortunately I would not return to or recommend Carmine’s DC until they improve the quality of their food. Patrons should visit either of the two NY Carmine’s restaurants if ever in the NY/NJ area.
We have frequented the Manhattan locations over the years and must say that the DC Carmine's pales in comparison. We had the Zuppa de Mussels in red sauce, they were very sandy. For the main course we had the Veal Saltinboca, a personal favorite, the veal was tender but the prosciuto was dry and chewy. We ordered a botlle of wine which the waiter opened, poured a glass and never pourd again. On a positive note, the staff was friendly and our table was by th window which made the experience enjoyable. Alas we will not be returning.
