Great family friendly location. Family style portions.
When they say the servings are for sharing... they mean it!!!
Have been to this location and NYC multiple times. I was cautious this time because of the recent reviews. Service was far from what you would expect here- so bad I had to track down plates for the table and a manager had to explain the menu (2 other employees did not know what they actually had to serve). This places was always a tradition when we came to DC, tonight broke that tradition.
While on our vacation, we decided to eat at Carmines DC in part because our daughter and her grandmother ate at the one in NY. The food was amazing. Its family style so the portions are huge. We had 5 of us and ordered chicken parmigiana, a shrimp dish and garlic bread. We also added pasta to both. We ate until we could eat another bite and we still had enough left over to have another meal the next night. It's a must for a family or get together.
The food was good but we ordered it with no pork and we ask the waitress to make sure it’s without pork and he told us that it’s no pork then surprise it have pork and we asked him again is it with pork he said no then when we told him we are allergic he told us that it contains pork!!
We were visiting and wanted Italian. Would have been better if we had more people to share the large portions.
Always enjoy our staff dinner during our annual workshop. Looking forward to coming back to Carmine's in Sept.
Most of our group were first-time diners at Carmine’s. Everybody raved about the food. The service was great. We would definitely do it again
Very dim lighting so bring a flashlight to view the nebu and see your food. Servers disappear so dont count on a beverage refill when you want it. This location differs greatly from their New York location which is awesome. And although the entrees are served a little below hot, they're quite tasty. By the way, the photo booth doesn't email your photo as all you receive is a blank page - quite disappointed.
Fantastic food!!! We ordered lasagna and it melted in our mouths. The Acqua Pannna Toscana natural spring water paired well with the lasagna. The service was excellent! Would go again.
Huge portions even for family style dining. The zucchini fries were a big hit with our group. Was a great place to celebrate a family birthday.
We arrived early for our reservation but it was no problem. They were able to get us in anyway. The waiter was helpful
The food was out of this world. Huge portions.
It’s my Favorite restaurant to go to
Outstanding as always. I love the family style since we always bring family from out of town to Carmines and everybody loves! It is our go to!!!
We decided to meet our family at your restaurant . The level of service by your manager and hostess was exceptional. Most of all our waiter Sean (Shaun, Shawn) thank you for making allof our LARGE group feel we were being served in the best Italian kitchen ever.
Our ninety-one year old mother's bucket list is almost complete and Carmine's made it an event to remember. Thank you.
Ambience was ok. Service was so-so.
Portions are family-sized and be careful of “market price” listed menu items.
For some reason they tried to serve me desert before even the appetizer.
But food is great so would return in a heartbeat.
We went To Carmines based on our experience in NYC. Ordered pretty much the same dishes - fried calamari, chicken parm, and lasagna. Kids like the basics. It was good food, but not stellar. Lasagna lacked seasoning. Calamari was good but the dipping sauce was a little spicy. Chicken dish was good, but a tad to cheesy for me. Service was good, prompt and attentive. Ambiance was a little loud, but OK as families were enjoying their time together. Bread basket came with assorted breads and especially liked the focaccia bread and seasoned oil dipping sauce. Would go back if kids insisted, but would like to try other places too.
Excellent food, huge portions, & great service. Highly recommend!
First our table was wobbly. Our waiter attempted to fix it but that was only temporary. We asked to be moved to another table nearby but it had not been cleared and they wouldn’t move us. Then no bread was brought to the table, we had to ask for it. The waiter finally brought the oil but by that time we finished the bread. The food was horrible! Stuffed artichokes were tough, vodka rigatoni tasted like lemon and shrimp scampi had no taste at all! We have been to Carmine’s in both NY and Atlantic City many times and this one was by far the WORST!! From service to food it was horrible! And the prices are outrageous! The quality of food did not warrant the prices. Our feel was that this location is neglected.
Great food. Large serving portions. Fantastic. Service is very friendly.
Please note that our reservation was for 9:00 pm on July 4th - so no excuse for poor service just possibly understandable.
We were seated for 10 minutes before waitress came by to ask for our drink order. The restaurant was not busy at all. We were 1 of 4 tables that had anyone sitting at the them.
Our waitress did not want to offer anything outside of the bare essentials and was very much wanting not to be at work.
We had to ask for bread that is normally served with the oil & garlic. She brought bread & after requesting 3 times for the oil, she informed us that they did not have any left for the day.
Service was poor however the food was good. This was our second time to eat at this location. Food was amazing & service was over the top the first time!
Considering the holiday & late evening I will not let this keep us for eating at Carmine’s again.
Crazy as it was there about 5 families that came in as were about to leave - I am sure this waitress was not happy about those late night guest either.
Carmine’s - please prepare your staff to serve to closing with a good attitude!
By the way - we still tipped our waitress!
Great food, accommodating, great service. Place was PACKED for 4th of July and still ran on rails!
Wait staff not attentive. 25 minutes to receive a basket of cold bread. Kitchen cooked meal incorrectly.
They seated us right away and our waiter was knowledgeable and charismatic!
The kids ate every bite, right down to the strawberry shortcake!
We enjoyed the family style meal. Portions were very generous!
We were not prepared for the HUGE servings. As there are three of us we had to agree on what to eat and share one plate. The celiac had her own food - which could have fed six people easily. The option of smaller serves would be good
Had a party if 8. The food was excellent. Impressed how good the food was considering how big and busy the restaurant was.
Food portions were large !! Food was excellent and server was amazing g
Great time great food great value. We ordered the titanic for dessert and everyone ate some.
My only complaint .. I wish you could order half portion sizes . We had 6 people with very different tastes , so we had to order a lot of food since everything is served family style
Great food, don’t order too much!
If our waiter would have taken long enough to explain what some of the dishes were we would have ordered differently. The food was good but we ordered way more than we needed.
We live in ny but have never been to Carmine’s. We Saw the dc Carmine’s walking back to hotel. Booked reservation on open table. Host was very accommodating with table preference. Service was good. Dinner was excellent. Top five restaurant experiences for myself and my family. Would enjoy again in a heartbeat.
Dining is family style which is great if you have a large group, but eating there for two is impractical. The portions are too large for two. If you’re visiting from out of town, the leftovers go to waste. It would’ve been nice to have a few options with normal sized portions. Other than that, the food was good for the most part. The bread was very disappointing, and good bread is a staple for any good Italian restaurant.
I came with my family and we were seated immediately even though we walked in 15 minutes early. Our server Kelvin was amazing and the food was delicious too. Overall great value, good ambiance, would come again.
Amazing! And you have to get dessert!
Such a great place!! Wonderful atmosphere!! Staff very courteous and helpful! This is our third visit and will definitely be back again!
Hostesses at front desk rude. Waitress could not pronounce Italian dishes. Dc location is horrific compared to NY.
Service was awful, been to the New York location several times only to leave happy and full. The DC location should take notes from the pros up north. A table of three walked out since they were not greeted for the 20 minutes they waited. Food was great though, great for kids.
Very pleased with our latest visit. We always ask to be seated at Doc’s table - he’s attentive, has excellent recommendations, and puts up with our banter. No matter how carefully we plan, we always order too much, but that makes for excellent leftovers. We ordered the cold antipasto for the first time - delicious, and looks like a work of art. Also had the Thursday beef tenderloin special - pricey but delicious, and plenty for our party of seven. Chicken Marsala and penne a la vodka left no one hungry, and we still managed dessert (at Doc’s suggestion, we ordered the “Tugboat” - it’s not on the menu, but is a less huge version of the “Titanic.”) We look forward to returning!
