Carmine's - Washington DC

Absolutely outstanding in every capacity. The portions are tremendously huge and phenomenally delicious!
This place exceeded our expectations. The staff were awesome and attentive. The food was flavorful and way more than we could eat. I guess my only critique would be the bread that is provided (free of course) could be warm. Not a lot of people like cold bread. But it was still good and we had a great time. My family and I will definitely be back again.
Pre hockey game spot for dinner. Lots of Cap fans at the bar. It was just the two of us for dinner. Pretty good meal. However you need at least another couple to share. They really should have 1/2 portions for two. We took home the rest of our salad and veal dish. We ordered the veal scaloppine. If you want pasta with it, it costs an additional $9. Platter was big and the flavor good - more pasta than veal. Only enough veal for three maybe. Took the rest home and put chicken in it the next day. Good place for groups. Server was very nice!
We were given a gift certificate and it was just the two of us for dinner. The food was good but there was enough for 4 people. I would have liked to try different entrees but the size of the entrees meant getting only one. Carmine’s would be much better with a greater number of people in your party.
family style Italian is Penn quarter. Great value and the portions are huge. We had salad, Shrimp Parm and pasta with sausage and broccoli. All excellent dishes. Great value, about 31/person with tip! Plenty of leftovers for lunch. Come with a lot of people if possible so you can get more entrees.
I've been to Carmine's twice now and have enjoyed the high quality of the service, food, atmosphere, as well as the value. Both times with my college aged son, there is always something to take home for him for lunch next day! We moved here from NJ a few years ago and are really pleased to have a restaurant that is like home. I drove from an hour each way from Leesburg for dinner, and it was worth it. The staff here is excellent.
Seafood has sands...other than that, everything was okay
We had a wonderful dinner on Saturday evening after a great Georgetown basketball game at Capital One Center. Easy walk from that venue. Also close to a nice walk around the White House. Our waiter took great care of us. The food is served family style and everything was very yummy!!! We had stuffed mushroom appetizer which paired perfectly with both the Carmine Chianti and the Nero d'Avola that was being highlighted. Then we had lasagna and chicken marsala. Both were wonderful, rich dishes. We shared the Italian ice cream ball for dessert, which was a perfect ending to the meal. We look forward to a return trip soon!!!
Excellent service and food!
Great food and service
It was super-crowded for a Thursday night but the wait for our food was worth it. They ran out of wine glasses and I had to drink my wine from a regular glass. Lots of parties going on—lots of Congressmen/women and other politicians. Definitely the place to be and eat in DC! Will definitely come back again!
Really good food! Seems that we were on Italy, really big buf portions. We ate s fantastic lasagna. All people there are very kindly.
Aaron made our experience awesome!!
Went for our daughters’s birthday celebration- as always, the food was amazing & plentiful!! She had never been & absolutely raved about it. Perfect for dinner with family or friends- good value, excellent food, attentive service.
Fairly disappointed in my latest visit. Had a 9:30 reservation on New Year's eve and upon arrival was told by the server that the kitchen closes at 10. Had this been mentioned prior I would have made other arrangements. The server and staff were in hurry to get us out. We received the one dessert we order after only having our entrees for about 10 minutes. While the food was decent it made for an overall crap experience.
We went with a family group of 8 for New Year's Eve, a perfect situation for the family style serving. It isn't cheap but a fun change for a special occasion. Loved the garlic bread, it is to die for!!!!! We also really enjoyed the Spiedini Alla Romano- a first for us. It was SOOOO good, like a fried mozzarella grilled cheese. Try it!
Great food and service, family style dining was a fun option!
Amazing food with monstrous helpings...had leftovers for days! We had a nice window seat for people watching on the DC scene. We will be returning with friends to help eat the large platter of great cuisine!
Disappointed that they didnt have Clam Sauce available.
Disappointed with the amount of food served for “family style” plates. Also, we were put in a back room with next to no other guests instead of the much nicer main dining room. I suppose this restaurant is ok if 4 people want to share plates, but it did not work out well for our group of 10.
This is the best Italian restaurant in D.C.. They serve the best chicken wings in the United States! The food is outstanding, the wine is divine and the price is right.
Food is spectacular. Remember it’s family style so the portions are huge.
Great place to share a family meal with friends. 11 of us around the table. Great food. Highly recommended. You won’t leave hungry
underwhelmed, over-priced. Very expensive for marginal quality food. Service was fine, but very hard to have conversation as big tables and very noisy!
Wasn't happy with the food. The lasagna was overcooked and under seasoned. The replacement shrimp scampi was also over cooked. The waiter was kind and friendly.
Briefly: extremely loud. Food was delicious and portions generous, but grossly overpriced (even for DC). We ordered Chicken Parmesana and Chicken Marsala, which did not come with pasta ... a simple side plate of spaghetti cost a staggering $9.00. The Tartufi dessert was very good. Service was friendly, but a little slow (although they were pretty busy). Bottom line: we enjoyed it, but don't plan to go back. Maggiano's is a better alternative for family-style Italian food.
Wonderful service, large portion sizes, great family atmosphere and great food!
You need a group to dine here! The portions are designed to share. We ordered 1 appetizer, garlic bread and 2 entrees for 6 people and had leftovers!
All of it was very good. The calamari was crispy. The chicken was delicious and the sauce on the pasta was very nice although I would have preferred a bit spicier.
We were very first people in the restaurant, arriving at 11:25 for our 11:30 reservation. The hostess was rude and didn’t explain that she couldn’t seat us until 11:30. She said absolutely nothing, but then got on to my children for taking a seat on a barstool while we waited. Once seated, it took 20 mins to be recognized by any server and to get water. It took at at least that long after asking for a refill. The food was amazing and the portions are massive. We enjoyed the experience, but the servers need a lesson in service.
Yummy huge portions! Server was not attentive. Waited at least 20 mins to pay.
Poor service. Bad experience. Never again.
went to Carmine's for a post Christmas family celebration...16 of us...including a baby, a toddler and 5 kids between ages 7-11... It was wonderful! Food was superb! Family style really worked for us! Great service..our waiter was wonderful!!!The decorations made everything more festive ! Thanks for having us1
Large plates to share family style. Everything was exceptional, from service to food to drinks.
Poor service. Ordered three entrees for table—got two together, and waited on third until the first two were nearly done. No explanation other than a very short apology. Based on first time we asked for our meal, it seemed clear he didn’t order it. When it came out, pasta was badly under-cooked. Complained, and waiter offered to send it back. Given how late the food was, we chose to suffer through it. Awful. Lastly, we booked the reservation through OpenTable as a birthday—it was my mother’s. Carmine’s never acknowledged it at all. Very embarrassed. I’ve been there before and was fine, but based upon this experience they no longer value our business—and won’t get it.
Asked the server if there was ricotta in the lasagna, he told us just a bit, you'll like it even if you don't like ricotta. Well 50% of the lasagna was ricotta. I would've ordered something else if I was better informed.
My wife and I are BIG fans of Carmine's. We've been to the locations in NYC (Times Square and Upper East side) on previous visits. As a matter of fact, I would say Carmine's is a must when we visit NYC. Our visit in DC may have changed our minds on that. My daughter researched prior to our visit to ensure gluten free pasta was available - she's not allergic, but does have an intolerance for gluten. We confirmed and we were on our way. When there, we ordered our usual - calamari appetizer, Caesar salad (croutons on the side - we made a big deal about not putting them on the salad), a gluten-free shrimp pasta dish for the kids, and shrimp scampi for my wife and I. First, the Caesar arrived and it was covered in croutons. We informed our waitress and some time later (maybe 10 minutes) she brought an individual salad for my daughter sans croutons. She said if you want more, just ask. Daughter ate the salad on the plate, and asked for more. Never got the second plate of salad, even after making a 2nd request when our entrees arrived. Calamari arrived, and it was great. Pasta / scampi arrives, and the pasta was disappointing. The GF pasta literally had no sauce on it. I"ve had much better at Olive Garden. It was overcooked and watery...my kids wouldn't eat it. I tried a bite, and it was TERRIBLE. We were told it was the lemon butter sauce, but obviously someone forgot to spoon it on. The scampi was great, but as you can imagine, didn't last long since the kids didn't like their pasta. Needless to say, not a good experience. Maybe it's just the DC location? NYC will likely get another chance. DC - no way.
The food is amazing!!! But do not go without reservations, they will send you away. They do not have Sweet Tea.
Our waitress was very friendly and made us feel at home.
Needless to say, the food was outstanding!
Carmine's is a great place to go with a large group. We had 11 people in our group and everyone was completely satisfied. The food was delicious. We had the calamari, mixed green salad, Cesarean salad, Bolognese Meat Sauce, Chicken Saltimbocca, and the Shrimp Fra Diavolo (with linguini). The service was outstanding and the wait staff was very friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed the atmosphere and the restaurant was beautifully decorated for the holidays. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Great food and Darryl really hooked us up!
