Cardwell’s at the Plaza fuses the warmth & comfort of a neighborhood bistro with the elegance & attention to detail of fine dining. Chef Bill and his team appreciate what a restaurant experience can do to enhance the human spirit. A distinct American spirit is applied to all dishes while continuously offering guests surprises with both preparation & presentation. With a special devotion to local ingredients, the menu boasts both the heart of comfort food & the flair & balance of culinary complexity. Cardwell's at the Plaza Ratings and Reviews
A favorite place of we chose to celebrate Valentine’s Day did not disappoint. Table was ready and our server was very good. Tried a couple new cocktails, mule and a muddled margarita. Very good (way too much salt on the rim). Apps, entrees and dessert were delicious. Had the flat iron steak and she had the salmon. Sooo good. Blueberry hand pie to close was just right. Diet restarts tomorrow.
There are several vegetarian options that can be tailored for a vegan (one of our party is vegan). That makes dining at Cardwell's pleasant for our group. The food is very good (not exceptional in our opinion). They have a nice selection of beers, ales, and stouts if you lean towards fermented brews. The restaurant ambiance is nice and the noise level is not very high for the number of people in the restaurant. It is a reliable choice for a good dining experience and we dine there at least once per month.
We enjoy going to Cardwell's as the food and service are always excellent, but I, personally, judge more on the quality of food, and Cardwell's food is excellent. I have never had a bad meal there.
We particularly enjoy going there for lunch and then attending a matinee at the theater inside the mall. It is so convenient to go there to eat with so many nice retail stores in the same location.
I am a healthy eater and this is not the place for that! While they have salads and soups, they are such large portions, with no option for smaller appetites.
That is the only reason I would not refer a friend here. If you like a lot of food, the food is great and huge portions!
Cardwell’s at the Plaza has to fill the roles of both a destination restaurant, where people make reservations and plan to linger, and a mall restaurant, where people want to drop in and find a table waiting when they tire of lugging their shopping bags around and need a break between tasks. It plays those sometimes contradictory roles surprisingly well. The food is both comforting and creative. The service adapts to the shopper who needs to refuel ASAP and get somewhere and to the group who that wants time to chat over three courses and then chat over coffee. There are glitches, but very few. Caldwell’s is great for a special occasion—and for a quick bite between shooping tasks or before or after the movie.
This was my wife's favorite to go to restaurant for special occasions. There has been a steady decline on vegetarian entree to only a veggy sandwich. There is no attempt to modify exiting sides on other entrees to become an optional "entree" Most other dishes have all kinds of vegetarian items. We are told they are all set as pre fix and cannot take from one for another- too bad.
Make reservations and requested an alcove table 6 weeks prior to reservation. When we got there we wouldn't give her an alcove table and told that there had been an error in marking it down. Our waitress was very attentive however made no concession for not providing a request. Some favorite items have been removed from the menu such as onion soup and a turkey burger, and while the food is OK it seems to have become pricey for what you get.
I have lunch a few times a year at Cardwell's, always on New Years Eve with my friends. This year I brought my granddaughter. I was so disappointed today.
One person in our party was given her fried oyster sandwich 10/12 minutes before the tray for the rest of us (total of 4) arrived. The waiter dropped the tray, food and china went everywhere, sliding under our table. The waiter was the first to come over to apologize. During the clean up, no manager came to our table to check with us. My friend had salad dressing all over her purse. We did not want to make a bad situation worse or make the waiter more embarrassed. We waited for our food (quicker this time). We notice broken pieces under our chair and notified the staff. Still no manager. When we received our bill much to our surprise, there was no compensation for the extended wait etc.
Maybe we should have been vocal but we all thought the staff at Cardwell's would have acted with more graciousness towards customers.
Overall it was good. I asked for coffee before our entree was done and it took so long before she came with it. She couldn’t find cups and said that they needed to wash some,we got the cream, we got the birthday dessert and it was gone before we got the cups and then we waited for the coffee. I would gestatimate the time it took after I asked for two cups of coffee one with cream, was fifteen minutes plus. (She didn’t charge us for the Coffee!) we will go back but we will ask for coffee first!
Very impressed with the ease of making a reservation using Open Table for this restaurant. We especially like the fact that the restaurant read the reservation ahead of time and reserved a booth that we requested. It made our special occasion even more memorable.
We dine at Cardwell's on the Plaza a couple of times a month. The food is very good, the service is also very good. When it is crowded, the noise level is tolerable for conversation, but at off peak hours (half empty or more) it is quiet, and conversation is very easy. It is always a pleasant experience to dine there.
