First of all they did not honor Happy Hour. I had looked it up online and it said Happy Hour was from 4:30 - 6:30. We arrived at 5:25 and when the bartender came to our table at 5:30, he told us Happy Hour was over even though I told him what the website said. We went to our reserved table in the dining room and when asked by the waiter how I was, I mentioned I was a bit upset by the bartender. He said, "We don't have Happy Hour here." The hostess came by and I told her the same thing. Next the waiter came with complementary rice balls and the hostess admitted that I was right about the 6:30 time on the web. They did not handle the situation correctly at all. And the food was mediocre at best. We will not be returning.
Overall not bad. Lots of service issues at first but they found a way to make it right, so credit for that.
Not an overly pricy restaurant and the food measured up, but one would expect a more consistent level of service.
Awesome as always!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Loved the ambiance from the get go. Went with two dear friends who were telling old “war stories”, we loved everything. The bolognese and fra diavoli were amazing! The people were super friendly, very attentive and didn’t rush us! Thank you!
Great food as always. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid. I wish the eggplant fries were still on the menu but when we asked for them and they were able to make them for us. Both meals were delicious (the scallops and the surf and turf special). Staff is very attentive and friendly. Ive never had a bad experience at any of the Carbone restaurants but the original is still my favorite.
Always quality food and great service. An institution in Hartford’s south end!
For a busy weekend nite it was quite smooth. (mothers day, graduation, birthdays) We were don in sufficient time to see our show.
A great find on a trip through Hartford. Classic Italian recipes and ambiance. Friendly attentive service. Highly recommended.
Whenever we are visiting relatives in CT we make it a point to dine here. The food is exquisite and authentic Italian and the service is great. It is like dining in a restaurant of the past. They still do tableside Caesar Salad!
Simply the best Italian restaurant in Hartford.
The staff was exceptional, the food second to none. Our experience was a 10
Great dinner at Carbone's; appetizer very good, main entree's excellent and dessert was quite good. Service was excellent!
A lovely evening at an intimate Italian classic. The salmon & vegetables are equally delightful as the eggplant parmigiana (often our favorite). Thank you so very much to everyone!
The service is as good as the food! We requested a special table in the back and were cheerfully accommodated. We even asked for special menu items that were not supposed to be offered that night, and were cheerfully accommodated once again!
This is consistent with my other experiences there. I highly recommend Carbone's for special occasions or just when you want to be treated special.
Oh, and the food is the best, and the presentation outstanding. They have not compromised!
Very sad used to be the place to go in Hartford for the best of everything! Tired 4 customers on a Thursday night.
Bartender Pamela awesome, otherwise the whole thing was boring and below averag
Classic Italian restaurant. Food and service are wonderful. Never been disappointed with our dinners here.
Consistently great food and fantastic service. Everyone, from our waiter to the parking lot attendant are friendly, professional and aim to please. We shared the Apple Spinach Salad which was delicious. The Veal and Eggplant al Forno with Polenta was as wonderful as I remember it from a previous meal. Though I'm 71 I had my first Tom Collins which I loved. Our waiter explained that they make their own Collins mix from scratch, including egg whites. I am always ready to go to Carbone's in Hartford and have a great experience. Thanks everyone!
Very nice experience had a beautiful dinner with my friend. My server Michelle was very nice & knowledgeable.
This restaurant has been a family favorite for years. One of the last few that is intimate and allows you to have a real date. The food is very good. The only complaint was the calamari. Very fishy and undercooked. But we both had the veal chop. I had the Milanese and my husband the Parmigiana. Both were fabulous. Drinks are different and tasty. They make their own “cellos” with cherries, oranges and other fruits. The dessert was to die for. I had the bocce ball and my husband the chocolate mousse cake. Both were excellent. Waitress was so friendly and nice. She took the time to make conversation and to see that everything was okay, even though she was quite busy.
One thing that I did not like was at around 9:30 they turned lights off in the upper level of the restaurant. The bottom level was still full and made us feel like we needed to leave. Also, at the same time they must have turned off the heat as it became very cold. So we left.
Restaurant is dated! Blast from the past. Staff was great. Food was average. They need to update the menu & dining area.
Great food every time. Staff are nice and atmosphere is quiet. Bar area nice.
The food is excellent, the service outstanding. Old school, table-side Caesar salad, Bananas Foster, and other great dishes. The menu varies from classics like Rigatoni Bolognese (served with a generous dollop of ricotta) and a SPECTACULAR veal tomahawk to pan seared duck breast to short ribs with bourbon mashed sweet potatoes.
Quite simply, this is likely the BEST restaurant in Hartford...and no parking problems!
Fantastic service and food. Love the history of Carbones too. Tonight found the plaque with my brother-in-law's father on the wall. He was a firefighter in the neighborhood and a regular, his favorite restaurant. My sister's rehearsal dinner was there. So many fond memories. Tonight best dinner and service ever. Can't wait to go back.
We came for Roman night with the wine pairing. It was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed every course. We left very full
Best Italian food I have ever eaten. Every ingredient was fresh, authentic, flavorful.
Very professional, knowledgeable and congenial
Epic spot for dinner in Hartford. If you are in town and tired of the same old corporate restaurant scene, you owe it to yourself to make the trip. Classic, high end Italian with all the comforts of a cozy living room. Caesar Salad is a must. The best.
Service was quick enough but just not very warm & engaging. The food was excellent, especially the arincini. The shrimp and grits as well as the eggplant rollatini were both fantastic.
Everything was great except the waiter made us feel rushed! It was not overly busy that evening.
A great experience. A little pricey but great for a special occasion. Food prepared perfectly. Service was great too.
Found ourselves in Hartford, made a reservation on Opentable and we were pleasantly surprised! What an awesome place with amazing food.
We chose to sit at the bar and the bartenders and drinks were spectacular. We will certainly be back and recommend to our friends.
Meal was delicious. Service was attentive, as much as possible with only one waiter/waitress visible. Unfortunately my girlfriend got sick from it, and we had to toss the leftovers.
The waitress and staff were amazing, I loved the atmosphere and recommend anyone who wants to go on a nice date to come here, they’ll never forget it. The bartenders drinks was amazing as well!
We made our reservation and realized after that it defaulted to 2 people. could not get in there and change it to 4 people. We had too wait a little longer when we got there.
Food was excellent. Service was good. First time visit for us.
Carbone's is still one of the great restaurants of the region, just as it was the first time I went over 30 years ago. Well worth the drive to the South End of Hartford for the experience.
Amazing if you have never been you need to go and we are looking forward to going back
Everything was wonderful. The lobster ravioli special was especially delicious. A perfect way to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Excellent service and food. Truly "fine dining". Pace was relaxing and suitable for dining.
Staff checked in regularly. Assisted with my friend's birthday celebration my honoring my request to add candle to her dessert. Kind and helpful responses from all staff members. Food (calamari, shrimp w/mustard app , tenderloin tips, polenta, spinach, bananas foster!) was delicious!
