How we miss you.
This was the best restaurant in Chicago for 83 years before closing sadly on 12/31/16. We have been going there for 58 years since we were 10 years young. We will miss our favorite Patrick "maitre d of maitre ds" who passed away in 2016 and Theodore we wish him a wonderful future and the Cape Cod staff.
A Chicago icon restaurant We were lucky enough to be there on the last night of its operation. Farewell to you !! It was a wonderful place and we have great memories from there.
Goodbye CCR. You will be missed. A wonderful atmosphere for the final night of gourmet dining in the famous Drake Hotel. Our waiter was busy, but delightful. Our last meal was delicious. Sad to see you go.

The Cape Cod Room is a special place that is the source of many fond memories and a destination for numerous celebrations and noteworthy events in our lives over three generations -- fine food and terrific drinks, excellent service, cozy and comfortable design and decor, sophisticated atmosphere, old school in the best sense -- a vanishing breed of restaurant, which as of today sadly includes this historic Chicago institution that has fallen victim to the almighty dollar and hotel executives that have no common sense, no style, no class, and no appreciation of tradition and the importance of preserving memorable venues like the Cape Cod Room. The Drake Hotel will never be the same. Shame on the Hilton Corporation.
This is rather unnecessary as the restaurant is closing but it was an amazing 'old school' experience. The food was good, the ambiance and people watching was amazing. I am glad I got to experience the Cape Cod Room before it was gone.
Historic, romantic, delicious! The Cape Cod Room is a treasure!
We had been to the Cape Cod many times but, awhile ago when the Hilton took over the Drake, we noticed the quality of the food and service had gone downhill. We went because we heard about the closing of the restaurant and wanted one more meal. It was definitely the best meal we had ever had there and we are sorry to see it go (needlessly going I might add). The bookbinder soup was superb, creamy and rich and full of fish flavor. My partner had the steak (of all things) and said it was the best steak he'd eaten in years, better than any steakhouse. I tried it and had to agree. I had the Chilean Sea Bass, cooked perfectly and accompanied by delicious brussel sprouts and parsnips, laid on a bed of red lentils, and with a perfect buerre blanc. We had the Baked Alaska for dessert-exquisite. It is a shame that big corporations come in, buy up a quality hotel, and destroy the things that make it great (where was the holiday train display in the lobby??) and make it bland and generic. So long, Cape Cod Room. Like so many other people and things that left us in 2016 (Bowie, Prince, Debbie Reynolds, common sense and civility), we will miss you!
The last hurrah for a Chicago institution. Upon hearing that the historic Cape Cod Room was closing after New Year's Eve dinner service, we decided to make one final visit. For us, it was more about nostalgia than dining, as the menu has veered off course in recent years. Ruben took great care of us, as he, Frank and Fernando have over the 35+ years we have been coming. Ruben told us that long-time maitre-d' Patrick Bredin passed away a few weeks ago. He was the lifeblood of the Cape Cod Room, and both will be missed.

What a great dinner! Delicious food, beautifully prepared and presented, engaging, personable staff. The rooms were almost full, but it was easy to have a soft-volume conversation--no shouting or struggling to hear your dinner partner. I will really miss this great restaurant when it closes after January 2017. It is very hard to find such an elegant dining experience anymore.
Getting tired, winding down. My wife wanted to dine at the Cape Cod Room for many years and when we recently learned that it was closing, we made our reservation. The food was OK but not exceptional. The ambience was conversation friendly, but the conversation mostly turned to something like "It's time for an upgrade." Unfortunately, it appears that the plans for the space do not include a new restaurant there.

The Cape Cod Room experience is beyond compare with the cuisine and the professional staff it is a treasure. Unfortunately, the new owners of The Drake, Hilton Corporation, has decided to close the restaurant at the end of the year. Tragically, another classic Chicago dinning experience will be lost to history. What will replace it? Perhaps a generic Hilton restaurant that could be in any city.
As it was the week after Christmas, it was very busy. We waited 30 minutes to be seated after our reservation time. I would think that a restaurant would be able to anticipate crowds and lessen the numbers of reservations they take during that time of year. Apparently, they are not able to.
With great anticipation, we booked a reservation for Dec 26 at the CCR, knowing this Chicago dining institution was soon to close. Unfortunately we were disappointed. The waiter came promptly and took our order. The breadbasket was slightly stale. My wife and I both had the famous Bookbinder Soup which was as good as ever. And then... it took 50 minutes for our entrees to arrive. We each ordered scallops in a lentil sauce with shallot crisps. My wife didn't like the taste but I thought they (5 medium scallops each) were pretty good. The ambience was nice, a very nautical, cozy feel. We skipped desert and left.
The server was very slow and never asked if we needed something, we had to ask for more bread, butter, etc. The food was moderate warm to cold, although tasted good, Waited 20 minutes when leaving to have my parking validated. Don't mind paying the price, if service and food are good. Would not recommend, even though you are closing, and would not revisit.
This restaurant is closing at year's end, and none too soon based on their dreadful service. Two hours after being seated our entrees arrived - and they got the order wrong. Our waiter worked hard in one respect. I've seldom seen someone try so hard to avoid our table and ignore our gestures. Another waiter finally saw our predicament and attempted to intercede, but it's hard to look past our waiter's incompetence and willful neglect. I understand that staffing issues contributed, but some heartfelt apologies and better cocktail service would have gone a long way.
They did apologize when I got up and confronted the maitre'd, but I didn't need that shining moment on Christmas Day. This wasn't the memorable experience we were looking for.
Shut it down... it's probably twenty years too late.
We were there on Christmas. Our waiter was mostly MIA and the maitre d took our order. Soups were brought before apps and just my salad after the apps. Drinks were not refilled. After 2 hours we still had not received our entrees and walked out of the restaurant. The food we did receive was sub-par. Apparently they have already checked out. Too bad. It was a miserable Christmas dinner!
Went for Christmas dinner, short staffed but still very good. The atmosphere is old world and a historic Chicago location. In the historic Drake Hotel. We had a wonderful time.
We were very fortunate to celebrate Christmas dinner here in the most iconic restaurant in Chicago. For 83 years, The Cape Cod Room has been legendary for it's Bookbinder soup w/sherry, Lobster Thermidore, Dover Sole, Beef Wellington as well as many other entrees. Our server Ramon could not have been more kind and gracious. The Baked Alaska was the perfect finish to a dinner we will long remember.
No one is more sad than we are that after 83 years of fine dining, The Cape Cod Room is closing it's doors on New Year's Day 2017. Sadly an end of an era that future generations will never experience .
It was a great meal, with great service. It is too bad the restaurant will be closing, and will not reopen after re-modeling.

It was a memorable meal in a historic restaurant. I had an excellent shrimp cocktail and then mussels. Very attentive friendly service in a white tablecloth setting. It's such a shame that the restaurant, which opened in 1933, is closing to make way for retail space.
Wanted to dine in a classic before the closing. Nothing can replace the classic service. Places like the cape cod room will be missed.

Sadly, the restaurant was running so far behind we were never seated and had to leave. After waiting well over an hour for our 8:00pm reservation, at 9:30pm we finally decided we had to leave. We were so sad that we missed our last chance to dine at the fabulous Cape Cod.Room.
Wld definitely recommend as long as u get there before Dec 31 sense restaurant is closing for good on that date-- our server Rubin & Thomas made our meal & experience exceptional!!
Well, I was a little apprehensive because I got zero responses to repeated emails and phone messages for a special request. When we arrived we were greeted by the host. A top notch jerk. Arrogant, showed no emotion (other than being disinterested) and just not pleasant. Fortunately our waiter and other staff were spot-on. Ruben was our guy. Other than being soft spoken, he took very good care of us.
We came because we know that they are closing and New Years Eve 2016 is their final service before a total remodel. Wine, food and service made up for the jerk at the door.
The food and service were impeccable. We will miss this iconic restaurant and were happy we were able to celebrate here one last time.
