On a whim, we went to Cantina 1910 on a balmy summer Sunday evening, which we hadn't been to since shortly after it opened. We were ready for a good meal, but we were amazed at enjoying one of the best restaurant meals we have tasted in months. My mouth waters thinking about the fish wrapped in banana leaf, steamed with hominy, both whole and made into a creamy concoction. It was amazing! Thanks to the waiter for suggesting it. Ceviche was fresh and very tasty, and we were surprised when the waiter recommended a turkey carnitas taco, but it turned out to be flavorful, moist and delicious. Leave room for the Tres Leches dessert. Not traditional, but very much worth the calories.

The low rating for ambiance was due to the music. It was absolutely horrible. We went for dinner at 5:15pm right after they opened and had to listen to club or rap music the entire time. We really wanted to stay for dessert, but I couldn't wait to get out of there, so we walked to a nearby ice cream shop for dessert. If I go again, I will sit outside to avoid the music. I can understand wanting to cater music to the young crowd, but maybe have more relaxing (or, how about Mexican) music for the earlier dining hours when us older diners (I'm 49) are there.

While the food was good, I was disappointed in the quantity for the price. $10 for chips and salsa got you a tiny bowl of chips and a mole sauce, a jam and pickled vegetables. Not worth it. Then we ordered queso fundido, which was good, but we kept having to ask for more chips! Tacos were good, but tiny.

The negative reviews were not far off. Drinks are very small, the Mexican fare was dry and lacked creativity. The server was very pushy at times, then couldn't be found for long periods. The place has a stuck-up atmosphere, and the communal tables don't add to the experience.

Service was great, ambience was great. Food was not that good. I never understand why a Mexican restaurant wouldn't give free chips and salsa. It would cost $17 just to have chips salsa and guacamole which is very overpriced. The food was okay - the tacos were dry and the margarita was small.

I wanted to love this place just for the decor, but for now, I cannot give it a recommendation to match the atmosphere. Although, we were lucky to be upstairs because downstairs is about as loud as you can get (like eating dinner at a rock concert without the music). The drink selections were good. I decided to try the La Playa, which had a tequila base and some peach "shrub" (no clue on what that is) but it was pretty good. We shared all of our plates. We had some decent recommendations, but I can't say I liked all of them. The first was the guacamole. The idea of adding raisins to a guacamole seems risky, but in actuality, it made the dish edible. The guacamole base was among the blandest I have ever experienced. I find it hard to believe they put much in their outside of avocado. (Maybe consult Rick Bayless on improving this dish?) The best dish of the night was the Scallops Divorciados. The seasoning was spot on. The only minus was the overabundance of peas. Still, I'd give this another order. The pork belly dish was delicious as well. So those were both in the small plates menu. We opted to split the large plate menu and choose the Chocoyotes En Mole Amarillo, which featured dumplings in mole sauce. It was good, but i did not realize the dumplings would be thumb size. A bit over priced for the $23 but an OK choice. I would have liked to have tried the tacos as they had a good variety but was talked out of it by the server, but then again, looking at other reviews, maybe there was a reason for that. The dessert menu was small and didn't capture our attention so we opted for a dessert martini instead at Marty's Martini Bar. Overall, I hope to see them tweak the menu and perhaps find a better chef who understands how to season food better as I really think this spot and menu would be awesome if done right.

The service and restaurant environment was great! The drinks were great too. It was unfortunate that the food was just okay. We ordered the queso fundido and it was more of a soup that could not be eaten with a tortilla. The tacos were okay, they just were a little bland.

This is not your typical Mexican American Burrito house this is an elevated food dining experience in a very relaxed local environment the food was outstanding creative and ingenious highly recommended if you like Mexican food and want it with a little bit of a different flair...Rick Baylee's would be happily impressed! Local produce, beer, art and meats and fish I was blown away

Management needs to learn how to treat customers. From the moment the 2 of us walked in, with reservations, on a weeknight, later in the evening, and were told we couldn't sit at a 4 top because they were reserved (of course several remained empty during our dinner) to the check we had to fight over due to them not understanding their own coupons, it was a bit frustrating. While ultimately they did the right thing we had to push for it and certainly didn't leave us with warm fuzzies to return. The food was good although both the appetizer and main meal had the same sauce so would have been nice to be warned since we were debating between dishes. The drinks were good too and the desserts were large portions. Would be nice place with a group so may be back but have to agree that the service was slow and not wanting to pay 17 for chips and guacamole we wished the drinks and food would have come quicker.

Cool venue. Food was so-so. The gaucamole was probably the best thing and that shouldn't be the best thing on your menu. Too pricey for what it is and too pricey for the neighborhood in my opinion. I wanted to like it a lot more than I did. I doubt I

Nice place but pricey. Food was on the bland side which was disappointing. I understand the food is organic and local, I applaud that! But would it kill the chef to use a few spices? And I have to say the tin trendy chairs are not comfortable to sit in :( 1910 Margarita's were delicious.

The food and drinks are amazingly good... there was a clear disconnect from the host station to our server when we waited 15 minutes after being seated and nobody came I was forced to go to the host station, someone came a few minutes later and apologized for the confusion. This restaurant is fairly new, less than a year old, and is a great bar/restaurant. The food and drinks are pretty amazing. A friend and I went all out with apps, shared tacos and two desserts. We went on a Thursday night and there was a band playing in the front room. Very cute place!

Our third time at Cantina 1910 and it has consistently been great. Food is wonderful as well as the service. My only complaint would be the noise level which was loud enough to make it difficult to hear the people at my table. Otherwise, Cantina 1910 is one of my favorites in Chicago.

After a few snafu's, our experience ended up being fantastic. Molletes, a good appetizer to share while waiting, comes on a surprisingly soft bread, so you're not scraping the roof of your mouth and losing half of the toppings when trying to cut into it. Brunch entrees, both medium and large, are satisfying, full of flavor, and don't leave you feeling like you overate. Bistec and carnitas are a continuous cycle of perfectly cooked meat, egg, rich sauce, and beans/vegetables. Each heavenly bite of the dense and slightly savory atole pancakes is an opportunity to smother in cajeta, but with the balance of ricotta and apples. Churros (made with whole wheat!) make a perfect shareable dessert, especially if you request more cajeta. As for drinks - the green bloody mary tasted a bit like a vodka & salsa mix (less like an actual cocktail), so I would try the classic one next time, but other cocktails were tasty and cappuccino and hot chocolate all delectable. Make sure you get the pickles that come with the bloody maries - basically a large cut giardiniera that is oh so good! Half the fun is in the beautiful colorful plates (good luck keeping your camera away!).

Have given it a try several times and every time, I'm thoroughly disappointed. Servers are not on point. A member of management never stopped the table. The food was so so. Drinks took over 10 minutes to get and we were one of only 4 or 5 tables in the entire restaurant. Needs work before I would reconsider dining again or recommend to anyone.

We've dined here before. It took forever to get our food. Other tables ate and were paying their checks before our food arrived, yet they'd ordered around the same time we did. Two of the three dishes we had ordered were correct. Had to wait for the third dish to be made for us. Not sure if I will return anytime soon.

This place is no longer a new place where they need to work their kinks out. It has been open long enough that it should run much more smoothly than it is. Few lessons: 1. It is located in Andersonville. Unless you are Hopleaf where children are not allowed (and is completely respected), you cannot expect to get by Sunday brunch (particuarly on Mother's Day) with 4 highchairs. Telling a mother you will get her a highchair and then forgetting, to multiple tables, is really not cool. Tell those with children PRIOR to seating that you have run out of highchairs and let them decide. 2. Mother's Day brunch is hectic. Coming to the table for the 4th time to tell us that our food will be right out and then ignoring us for another 20 minutes is an extremely poor practice in service. Be honest. Most of are adult enough to be understanding. 3. If there was a delay in service, do not drop off the check while we are still eating and say that you are doing so because it is your way of apolozing for the delay. Basically, the only item that came to the table early was the check. Find another way to apologize. 4. Upon receiving complaint at the hostess station, telling us that there is no manager on duty during Mother's Day brunch seems a bit strange. If you really didn't, you need to hire a manager during one of the busiest times of the year. 5. Do not tell us that you will contact us to address our complaints and then not write down our contact information. That is hollow and tacky way to dodge an awkward situation without really addressing the issue. Either do not pretend to be attentive or be sincere and follow up. The dishes we ordered were fantastic - salad was creative and steak and egg was outstanding. I wish we could go back to enjoy more. But Andersonville simply has way too many options to endure this low quality of service again.
