Candicci's Restaurant & Bar
We at CANDICCI’S are proud to serve you fine Italian cuisine - pasta, veal, seafood, chicken and beef dishes - made from only the freshest ingredients.
When I first opened CANDICCI’S in 1980, I took as my model the wonderful neighborhood ristorantes that populate New York’s famous “Little Italy” section. I wanted to recreate that special intimate ambience - a blend of attentive, friendly service, casual atmosphere and classic Italian cooking.
Belated Father’s Day dinner.
Apparently we went for our first time on a BAD night. Made our reservation on open table, went in got seated right away. Overheard the hostess and the waiter arguing bc he didn’t feel like he could take another table. Sat down and waited almost 10 min before anyone came over to take a drink order. Looking around the place was busy but everyone looked mad. The waiter told us they were running a little slow bc two cooks had not shown up. There was no customary bread to offer bc their weren’t enough cooks to keep up. He took our order and it took over an hour to get our food. We noticed another table receive bread right after being seated so we asked if there was bread available while we were waiting for our food and our waiter went to check and came back 10 min later with bread. I thought for sure that for how long they were making customers wait for food that they would offer free drinks or something...but nothing. I’m pretty sure the owner or maybe a manager was walking around and they offered nothing for the poor service. I really empathize with restaurants when they get stuck with low staff etc but I would also expect them to handle it more professionally the staff were all walking around complaining. If they knew they were that slow in food they should NOT have been seating tables.
Candicci's Restaurant has great Italian food. Our server was, perhaps, overextended due to the number of tables that were in his section. Consequently, service was less than stellar. Unfortunately, we were seated very close to a large party of people, one of whom was overly loud and obnoxious. The accordian player was a nice touch, but the volume at which he was playing was very distracting to carrying on a quiet conversation with our table of eight that evening.
We dine at Candicci's regularly, and we really enjoy the happy hour specials. Overall, Candicci's represents a very good choice for dining. The staff and management are very accommodating.
Food and drinks were great and service on point, 5 starts.
2-star ambiance because: 1) food and dirty napkin under our initial table...I smeared the food around with my shoe before figuring out the problem (just have staff check under tables when they clean the top), 2) wife's wine arrived with a fruit fly floating on the top (they replaced it) and we had another fruit fly buzzing around our meal as we ate (google "how to get rid of fruit flies"...they are unnecessary and yucky), 3) decor is showing it's age.
Great food and ambience, my only criticism is that my food came out much later than everyone else at my table. It was so late that I had to have mine to go because everyone was done eating and ready to leave. That alone should have prompted the waitress to remove it from the bill or at least comp me a drink.
My pasta was so bland I asked for red pepper flakes and it still was lack luster. Our service was awful. We will not be returning.
Hi, I want to apologize for your poor experience. Usually our food is not lacking flavor. If you would be willing to, I would appreciate if you would call the restaurant and give us your address and I will send you a gift certificate to come in and give us another try on us. Thanks -Mar
Excellent food and service as always. Seating for small and large groups.
Mother’s Day Brunch
I understand that it was Mother's Day but by noon the food remnants were not very appetizing and the maitre'd (or just the person seating us) was ill informed and not very inviting or welcoming.....one thing though, their fried ravioli was very good.
Hi, I want to apologize for your poor experience. I believe this was a one off situation. If you would be willing to give it a chance, I would like the opportunity to make it up to you. If you give me a call at the restaurant, I will send you a gift certificate out to come in and give us another shot. Thanks -Mar
Laughably terrible service. Food was meh, Salad arrived drowning in dressing and the manager was downright creepy.. Music was so loud we could barely hear each other. Good thing my group has a good sense of humor.
Hi, I am sorry you had a not so great experience in our facility. Please call Mar at the office (636- 220-8989). We would love to get your address and send you out a gift certificate to try us again. Thanks
Enjoyed the music of Pick Too and some excellent food and wine. It was our first visit. Bob, the owner came by our table to say hello.
Enjoyed the food, portions were generous and we will go back
We have been coming to Candicci's for number of years and never had bad experience. Very friendly family restaurant.
Candicci’s is consistently good. House salads are fresh and delicious. Our pastas were served hot and flavorful. Truly a neighborhood gem!
Delicious food. Great Server named Jim. The grouper and parmesan risotto were prepared beautifully. The atmosphere was loud with accordion music playing. Kudos to the chef, but not a pleasant relaxing place to dine.
Generous portions and delicious food. The owner visited each table at least once.
The food was great. The service was great. We had a wonderful dinner and we will be back!
The food is delicious and the service was very good. The restaurant is is nice inside; it very much has a 'date night' vibe. We went on a Saturday night with friends who were visiting from out-of-town and it was a great way to end the night. I was concerned that the live music might be too loud to have a conversation, but it wasn't at all. We sat approximately 20' from the performers and we were able to easily carry on and enjoy conversation with our meal. Overall, we really enjoyed Candicci's and we plan to return.
The food was awful
Candiccis is always great food at a great price! Impressive that the owner, Bob, walks around and checks on everyone. This particular visit we felt our server had too many tables and we didn’t get the level of service we have before. I’m sure not his fault. It will continue to be one of our go to places.
Stopped in for the first time with family. I certainly picked the wrong entree which was raspberry chicken. The served me a full head of broccoli and three over cooked chicken tenderloin no more than 3oz worth. The raspberry sauce tasted like watered down jelly. This entree was $15.99 totally disappointing. They could not even serve me a full chicken breast. My wife and kids ordered traditional pasta. If you order pasta you will be okay, can’t say much for the rest of the menu.
Had reservations for 4 on a Saturday night. They sat us towards the front of the restaurant fairly close to the door (not in the rear of the restaurant which has better ambiance and does get hit with the cold each time door held open. Not a huge deal but seeing that we had reservations would have preferred the nicer location (did not say anything to them since it really was OK). Service was slow and did not see server often. We had a couple of glasses of wine each but sat with empty water glasses for most of the meal since server did not return after food was brought to table. But food was excellent which made up for it all. And yes, would recommend it.
Food was terrible, salad had large chunks of iceberg lettuce, and soggy.
Candicci’s is the best Italian restaurant that I’ve eaten at in St. Louis. Everything was delicious, they handed out flowers for Valentine’s Day, had good musicians performing, and the owner came out to great us before we left. Candicci’s is my go to for fine Italian.
The food is outstanding. We can't visit very often due to the distance, but the trip is extremely worthwhile
Great dinner celebrating Valentines day. We sat in the bar area and enjoyed excellent seafood and pasta. Very good service on a very busy night.
We had a party of six and had made a reservation...turned out to be a good idea on a Saturday night. Everyone had a different entree, and all were good. Only drawback was that one of our party had suggested Candicci’s in the first place because they had gluten-free pasta...and they were out of it! The gluten-free pizza she substituted was good...but not pasta! Music was good but had we been sitting closer to the duo it would have been difficult to carry on a conversation. Overall a good experience.
Salmon special a bit dry and some of asparagus tough. Have had better food here before.
Good dinner but we were disappointed in the pizza this time. Everything else was awesome. The service was very good as usual.
The only negative thing about the service, was how long it took our server to notice that we were done so that we could get our bill. He was busy, but we felt ignored for awhile. We went because of the live music and to hear someone we knew. The food was fine but when we want the best Italian food, we stay a little closer to home and go to The Hill. We're also not fans of provel cheese, and Candicci's seems to put it on just about everything. However, they did sub mozzarella on my meal at my request.
Great food, plenty of service. Good time.
Don’t like when I get dirty silverware. No excuse for that!
Great dinner at Candicci’s with the family. There is always a great special to try. The Surf and turf was excellent. We also ordered at Sicilian steak was very good as well. Excellent service this visit as well.
Everything was mediocre.
We have a Christmas Eve tradition to dine here. So festively decorated. Wonderful lasagna. Waiter was warm and friendly. Like being with family. We enjoy their patio as well in nice weather.
Restaurant was not crowded, but it took a long time to get our food. Once it arrived, one order of their "special" was way under cooked (Salmon) and was returned to the kitchen. Plate did not arrive back until after everyone else at the table finished eating. Waiter and Manager/Owner didn't seem to really care. They reluctantly removed the entree from the bill, after we pointed out that it had not been. But they did not apologize or offer us anything else in return. We will not be returning to this restaurant.
Everything was perfect. Food, Service and value. Even with several large Christmas parties the overall experience for our party was great.
Just seemed like server always had an edge in his voice. Seemed bothered much of time.
Food was just ok. The chicken dinner dish I got looked like a kiddie portion. Thankfully a friend of mine decided we would split what she got and I got. Unfortunately the lasagna was loaded with so much ricotta that it wasn't a great consolation.
3 of us were celebrating a birthday. We had a reservation on a busy Friday evening, and wdre seated upon arrival. Service was prompt and attentive. We each had wine. 2 of us ordered the blackened salmon (a special). One of us ordered tortellini from the menu. Salads were included with our orders. Food & drinks were delicious. There was live accordian music being played throughout our visit. All was good with one exception. The server consistently served the gentleman in our group before the ladies. Candicci's has been a St. Louis staple for years, and has a well-deserved, excellent reputation. Servers should be instructed to serve ladies first.
