Cafe Routier knows how to prepare duck Pate and their duck breast entree was to die for!
Cafe Routier is by far my favorite restaurant in Southeastern Connecticut! I can't get there as often as I would like, but when in the area I make it a priority to dine there. The food is always outstanding and the Ruby Red Cosmos are excellent. Make sure you put it on your short list if you are in the Westbrook area!!
Always great place to go. Would have been five stars if filet mignon was not over cooked.
Great meal, good service, table for 4 in back dining room. Room was quite loud as we were seated next to a party of 6 ladies. Wonder if some sound insulation could have helped as ceiling may have made the voices louder. Thank you
We go there about 2-3 times a year (45 minute drive) and have been going for years. Always enjoy the atmosphere, food and service. It has become more “casual” over the years and although we prefer the dining room, they now have a very popular pub and pub menu (sign of the times). This visit we tried the pork belly app and it was outstanding. Dinners were good but not as tasty as that app. Service, as usual, was attentive and not rushed. Another good experience, look forward to our next visit.
Food always excellent. Good service.
Food is consistently inventive and outstanding. Grilled romaine was a hit - whole fish is always great. Best to sit in the bar - much better energy and ambiance then dining room. Service was OK, waitress seemed a bit indifferent and unenthusiastic - but executed the basics well. Might be the best overall restaurant within miles.
Never falters and continually refreshes decor and food options. A sure fire choice
Great food as usual. Service was better this visit than previous, but could still be better.
Nice restaurant and wait staff.
We started with the fries for the appetizer. They were very good with the accompanying sauce, but a little too salty for our taste. For the meal, I got the surf and turf and my gf got the steak and risotto. Steak was perfectly cooked and butter soft. There were a few chunks of cold lobster atop a corn muffin filled with corn kernels and a big portion of broccoli rabe on the plate. I'm OK with lobster cold or hot and rabe is OK, just not my favorite in that quantity but I understand that they needed to fill the plate with some color. Risotto was done well also. Bartender says they rotate their menu every 3 months.
They have a good selection of beer and my gf said the wine was the best she'd ever had.
I won't discuss price because this is a higher-end restaurant and you have to expect to pay more. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant as we had a pleasant experience.
My go to local place for a more upscale dinner. Food is always delicious!
Cafe Routier has never missed a beat! This is one of the most consistently delicious restaurants in our area. We especially liked the lobster wraps and the chicken. But everything is delicious, plus the staff is friendly and informative. Go!
Usually I give Cafe 4975834 a top rating. Although the main courses--the Branzino and the Filet were perfec- the duck pate was rather bland. And when I are some of the leftover late at home the next day, it had turned sour. But Routier is still a special spot.
Great food. Hadn’t been there in a while and I forgot how good Cafe Routier was.
Never disappoints. With the seasonal change of the menu...glad to see "Meatloaf" remains a gourmet staple.
We dined with two dear friends, so there was a lot of conversation. Our waitress was very accommodating and gave us plenty of time. She was very knowledgeable regarding menu and beverage details -- outstanding service!
Overall good food, service, ambiance. Accommodating staff. Original menu.
Cafe Routier never disappoints. The food is always imaginative and well-prepared, and the service is attentive without being intrusive. Several dishes on the regional Southeast Asian menu were outstanding. The peach melba cake was a wonderful and unique dessert. Cafe Routier is probably the best restaurant in southeastern CT.
This still our go to spot when looking for a great dinning experience on the CT shoreline. Always consistent yet great variety in the menu. There is always something for everyone.
This was our first visit. My review is a little late. We went for our anniversary. Everything was superb. We will definitely return. The menu was interesting in that there was a seasonal menu, a regular menu, and specialties menu. We ordered items from all three of the menus, but mostly the seasonal (summer) and the specialties since the regular menu is always there.
Has always been consistent with excellent food and fresh ingredients. Love the menu changes with the season's flavors.
We came here to celebrate a birthday and were so glad we did. The menu had a diverse, but not overwhelming amount of choices, including southeast Asian, seasonal, and local standard cuisines. My halibut was cooked perfectly and served in a delicate sauce that I would have drank like a soup if it were appropriate to do so. Dinner was satisfying, but didn't leave us feeling stuffed, so we shared the Profiteroles for desert. We were delighted with this restaurant.
Service was great as was the food. Our server, John, was most attentive
Wonderful dinner with my husband as always. The only complaint is the group near us was very loud so i couldnt hear my husband speak to me. Not cafe routiers fault but still made my night a bit less enjoyable. Other then that we love our date nights at cafe routier!
The cold asparagus soup was so delicious, I wish there'd been more of it. Served in a huge bowl, but not enough of the soup!!
Belgian fries with dipping sauce is heaven!
It would be wonderful if you served lunch a few days a week, especially in summer!
Top choice on the shore
Lovely meal. Very cozy. Great service. Delicious food...beautiful presentation!
The service was really good. Liked the contemporary decor, cozy. My fish was delicious.
Love this restaurant! Been here 3 times (while spending time nearby, I live 3 hrs away). The service, food, atmosphere incredible!!
I have been dining at Cafe Routier for 17 years and it is my favorite restaurant in Southeastern Connecticut. Always outstanding.
I love this place
Menu is great
Food is wonderful
Would absolutely recommend and will go back
Of note: this visit the service was a bit disappointing usually it is extremely polished and just fabulous
this evening it was average which is so unusual
We waited for long periods of time ( usually service is so attentive)
I was never asked if i wanted coffee/ tea with dessert and it took forever to get dessert
Perhaps it was just the time of the reservation which was later than usual
We stop in at Routier quite often. On this occasion we sat in the dining room and enjoyed a terrific meal which included flank steak, the roasted pork chop, wonderful vegatables and polenta.
On other visits we have been in the bar area for lighter fare, although diners sitting in there are free to choose from either the bar menu or the full menu.
We have yet to be dissapointed by anything we’ve ordered.
The staff is always friendly and efficient.
We’ll continue to stop here.
Food and service were wonderful. However, we arrived for a 9:00 reservation and then were told the kitchen was closing at 9:00...not sure why the restaurant would permit you to make a reservation knowing they are closing. It created a very awkward arrival and while we were able to order and our server tried to make us feel comfortable it was not the most enjoyable experience.
The menu concept is cool: three sections: one seasonal, one theme and some regular dishes. Drinks were good and well-crafted. Salads are a strength. Overall though the food is a bit uninspired. Not the best food or value in the Westbrook/Old Saybrook area, but worth checking out for a change of pace from Aspen or Fresh Salt.
Excellent First visit! Will be back soon! Asian, summer seasonal and house specials all were fantastic. Shared with my wife and we both enjoyed it all!
Normally an excellent meal
Not this time
My wife ordered a rare swordfish dinner
It came out well done
When the wait person questioned the chief, the answer was he did not cook rare swordfish which was not known by the wait staff. If we had known, she would have ordered differently.
Strange, I thought since we were paying for the meal we could specify the degree of cooking
My steak was good but the demi-glaze was heavy, almost lumpy, and totally overpowered the meat
The duck dish is alway great. This is the third variation - and all super! This time the salad was only fair - split with my wife. Service / waitress was super and helpful.
Very nice anniversary dinner at a very nice place! Great food and great service!
The food was incredible and the service was great. The chef prepares things in unusual ways that were delicious.
Always an interesting menu to choose from. All four of us enjoyed our food and how it was presented.
