Cafe Routier was recommended to us to celebrate a family birthday. It was perfect in accommodating our party of 6. The service was attentive, but a little slow. The food was outstanding and fit everyone's taste. The special South Asian soup was not a huge hit, so we recommend the seafood or steak options.
I went to Cafe Routier for my first time to celebrate my anniversary. The restaurant had excellent service and delicious food. Everyone said to get the fries and they were right. The sauce that comes with them is heavenly. The filet Mignon was cooked to perfection. I thought that the cheese platter (it was a special), although delicious, was the only downfall of the meal because there were only 5 small crackers given with 3 large chunks of cheese. However, I will definitely be returning in the future.
All around good experience. Good food good drink good atmosphere. Would recommend to friends.
It's always good here. I usually eat at the bar. Due to the summer season, there were a lot of young children and babies who were crying and making noise. This was disruptive to other diners. I think people with very young should perhaps find another family oriented place to eat rather than impose that noise level on those of us who want to relax and have a conversation.
We don't have the pleasure of dining at Cafe Routier often enough. We live in RI and we were seeing a play at Ivoryton Playhouse so decided this would be a great chance to meet up with friends at this restaurant. We ate in the bar area which could accommodate our boisterous conversation. The very eclectic and varied choices on the menu make it easy for everyone to order what they want. All of the food was very good with the exception of the 2 steaks both being overcooked. We didn't complain since we were on a tight schedule but that was our only complaint. 6 people had apps and dinner and were quite happy.
Food was well prepared and very tasty. Often I find that restaurants will do great drinks and apps but can’t deliver same level on entrees. This was NOT the case here, everything from start to finish was high quality and delicious (even dessert). Will definetly recommend and return.
Food and service were both outstanding. I highly recommend the Amuse Bouche, Braised Pork Belly, Bouillabaisse, and the Roast Duck. The Profiteroles are always great.
We have been here many times and always very pleased--this time, I must mention our waiter Pedro. He was superb, explaining every dish and drink clearly and flashing a world class smile all the while.
As usual, an evening at Cafe Routier is an absolute delicious delight whether with a small group of friends or with a family visiting from out of state. They are absolutely obliging, friendly, and the service staff is so wonderfully warm.
A really good French Bistro. Perfect service, excellent food.
I have always loved the trout at Cafe Routier but this time it was just ok. There were too many onions and too few potatoes under the fish and the onions soaked up most of the sauce. One on my guests ordered the hanger steak cooked medium and found that half of the slices were cooked medium and the other half were rare. This is the first time I have ever been disappointed in the dining room at this restaurant.
I recently ate in the bar, which is noisy, but the bar menu is very nice and the food we had was perfectly prepared.
One of our party said it was the best dinner he has had in a long long time. He had the ribeye steak special.
Loved everything from start to finish . Service was fantastic and our dinners from steak to salmon was cooked to perfection . The rhubarb / strawberry tart for dessert was delightful 😊
The food was truly excellent. Service at first was a bit rushed but slowed down once we requested it. The restaurant was not noisy. We could speak in conversational tones. The restrooms deserve a renovation.
Great get together with college friends. Very accommodating to dietary restrictions. Everything meal was delicious.
excellent food and service. We have never had a bad meal here.
Our anniversary dinner at Café Routier was excellent as always--we've been there many times, and often with groups of friends. It fits every style with ease--you can dress up (which we did) or go in tee-shirt and jeans; the restaurant itself is quietly elegant and accommodates the variety. The food is imaginative and delicious, and the service is excellent, attentive and pleasant. The triple menu provides marvelous regional and seasonal choices, while making sure a favorite is always available. We had a huge bowl of mussels marinara, carrot soup, campstyle trout, bronzino, and all the accompaniments, a gorgeous meal!
Excellent food and service. First time dining here but definitely will come again!
Excellent service and great food. Very nice wine list. Our first time there but will definitely return
Found Cafe Routier on Yelp and followed to Open Table. We tried the fried oysters - I'm not normally a fan, but these made me go back for seconds with the dipping sauce. The salad with the shaved asparagus was just right. We shared the bouillabaisse - the fish was soooo good and the liquid, like any good bouillabaisse, was great for 'sopping' the bread. We also split the turtle chocolate cake - this was delicious without being full-on decadent. The desserts are made on-site and it shows. Would recommend and look forward to visiting again when in the area.
It was an absolute delight with terrific service, ambience, and an ability to quietly talk with my dinner mate.
The food is very good and the service was friendly. The bar area was packed and the restaurant was lightly occupied but not empty. I like the regional and seasonal menu concept. There are plenty of good options. It is definitely not a "bargain" but the portions are more than adequate and I brought home leftovers.
Love this restaurant. Food is delicious and consistent and wait staff has been there a long time and is fun and professional. The best!
Our favorite restaurant in Westbrook. We have been coming here since they opened. Fresh and healthy food. Yes, they have fried clams if you must. But, there is so much more. Very good wine selection and finely crafted cocktails. Enjoy!
Their food, as always, was excellent! We all chose the lamb special and were not disappointed. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive and our dinners were served promptly. I would highly recommend this restaurant for every occasion, from casual dining to a celebration.
Excellent food and service. Our second time here and we will be back!
Have been there before, but very disappointed on this visit. Chicken dish was dry and tough (I was given a steak knife to use) and meatloaf was very salty. When they cleared the dishes, I told the bus person that the chicken was dry and no one responded ---- they just brought us our large bill. This was not an enjoyable experience or a good value.
Another wonderful meal at Café Routier!
We had been there before and enjoyed our meal. SO we tried it again. It was a Monday night vs a weekend ( our first visit), which might have impacted the quality of the food and service.
Our waiter was catching up with old friends at the table next to us and honestly, we were invisible. I heard the whole catch up. More than I need to know.
The food was a disappointment too. Lyonnaise potatoes...Not... French fish soup? Not. The mini burgers were good, according to my husband, but we won't be going back. Too many superior options.
Great as always.
Loved everything about our dinner. Cafe Routier is the best restaurant on the shoreline. Made for a very special mother's day.
A special evening to celebrate Mother's Day. Service was spot on and the food was delicious.
The food and service are excellent.
We are frequent guests
Always consistently good
The new menu is outstanding with something for everyone!
Try the muscles and the new filet.
Great food and service!!
Birthday get together with girlfriends.
As wonderful as always!
We visit our son on the shoreline several times a year and have always been a fan. But, not this time.
32 in our party ordered stakes - overdone.
I ordered the duck entree. The duck was ok, but dry. The accompanying side dish was questionable. It was to be white beans, duck confit, and Brussel sprouts. I guess that they were trying to replicate a cassoulet - not a chance.
The brussel sprouts were over cooked to soggy. The beans were inedible- just plan “much”. The server was trying to make it work, but her table side manner was poor.
Obviously, we won’t be back.
I’m so disappointed that Cafe Routier changed their recipe for the French Fries. They were hard and cold like they were sitting around. The steak was stringy in texture like a poor cut. They are obviously cutting costs resulting in a poor product. So sad
First-rate food with professional service and remarkably affordable wine list. Menu changes frequently, though features a few recurring standbys. We've been going here for well over a decade and it never disappoints
I love Cafe Routier. Have been going there since it opened. It never disappoints. I always bring my family that visits from California. Just brought two new people Monday evening. They loved it. The staff is very helpful.
