The food was incredible and the service was great. The chef prepares things in unusual ways that were delicious.
Always an interesting menu to choose from. All four of us enjoyed our food and how it was presented.
Excellent food and a nice, quiet table- celebrating a late birthday for my sister. The PEI mussels and sauce was especially good.
Pedro is great!
This spot is on our list every year when we visit the area. The food is seasonal and so fresh and delicious . The service is wonderful. Definitely looking forward to revisiting next year.
Very nice ambiance, delicious meals and excellent service.
Bang Mi (pork belly) appetizer was insanely good! I would definitely recommend trying it.
Amazing on all levels. Incredible service...delicious food and our friends who had never been were delighted! We will be back!
Consistently great...waitstaff, best in the biz...
Menu was original and taisty. Environment was well done, but guests tended to talk very loud, until their dinner was served. As the restaurant is open in design, there is need for some kind of noise absorption.
Our server was so sweet and the food, wine, drinks- all of it was just fab!
Wonderful service, very friendly staff. All of our dinners were delicious with steaks, seafood and pork all cooked perfectly. Highly recommend
When ever we are in the Old Saybrook area , we make sure to spend one evening in Westbrook at Cafe Routier !!! I suggested my wife try the Crab and Watermelon salad , while I had their fabulous fried oysters . For our mains , I had the Scallops topped with chorizo while my wife had the Steak frites . Her salad and my scallops were so incredible , I told a neighboring couple sitting next to us to try them , which they did and loved . Being a foodie , this dinner satisfied everything on my tasting list !!
Cafe Routier was recommended to us to celebrate a family birthday. It was perfect in accommodating our party of 6. The service was attentive, but a little slow. The food was outstanding and fit everyone's taste. The special South Asian soup was not a huge hit, so we recommend the seafood or steak options.
I went to Cafe Routier for my first time to celebrate my anniversary. The restaurant had excellent service and delicious food. Everyone said to get the fries and they were right. The sauce that comes with them is heavenly. The filet Mignon was cooked to perfection. I thought that the cheese platter (it was a special), although delicious, was the only downfall of the meal because there were only 5 small crackers given with 3 large chunks of cheese. However, I will definitely be returning in the future.
All around good experience. Good food good drink good atmosphere. Would recommend to friends.
It's always good here. I usually eat at the bar. Due to the summer season, there were a lot of young children and babies who were crying and making noise. This was disruptive to other diners. I think people with very young should perhaps find another family oriented place to eat rather than impose that noise level on those of us who want to relax and have a conversation.
We don't have the pleasure of dining at Cafe Routier often enough. We live in RI and we were seeing a play at Ivoryton Playhouse so decided this would be a great chance to meet up with friends at this restaurant. We ate in the bar area which could accommodate our boisterous conversation. The very eclectic and varied choices on the menu make it easy for everyone to order what they want. All of the food was very good with the exception of the 2 steaks both being overcooked. We didn't complain since we were on a tight schedule but that was our only complaint. 6 people had apps and dinner and were quite happy.
Food was well prepared and very tasty. Often I find that restaurants will do great drinks and apps but can’t deliver same level on entrees. This was NOT the case here, everything from start to finish was high quality and delicious (even dessert). Will definetly recommend and return.
Food and service were both outstanding. I highly recommend the Amuse Bouche, Braised Pork Belly, Bouillabaisse, and the Roast Duck. The Profiteroles are always great.
We have been here many times and always very pleased--this time, I must mention our waiter Pedro. He was superb, explaining every dish and drink clearly and flashing a world class smile all the while.
As usual, an evening at Cafe Routier is an absolute delicious delight whether with a small group of friends or with a family visiting from out of state. They are absolutely obliging, friendly, and the service staff is so wonderfully warm.
A really good French Bistro. Perfect service, excellent food.
I have always loved the trout at Cafe Routier but this time it was just ok. There were too many onions and too few potatoes under the fish and the onions soaked up most of the sauce. One on my guests ordered the hanger steak cooked medium and found that half of the slices were cooked medium and the other half were rare. This is the first time I have ever been disappointed in the dining room at this restaurant.
I recently ate in the bar, which is noisy, but the bar menu is very nice and the food we had was perfectly prepared.
One of our party said it was the best dinner he has had in a long long time. He had the ribeye steak special.
Loved everything from start to finish . Service was fantastic and our dinners from steak to salmon was cooked to perfection . The rhubarb / strawberry tart for dessert was delightful 😊
The food was truly excellent. Service at first was a bit rushed but slowed down once we requested it. The restaurant was not noisy. We could speak in conversational tones. The restrooms deserve a renovation.
Great get together with college friends. Very accommodating to dietary restrictions. Everything meal was delicious.
excellent food and service. We have never had a bad meal here.
Our anniversary dinner at Café Routier was excellent as always--we've been there many times, and often with groups of friends. It fits every style with ease--you can dress up (which we did) or go in tee-shirt and jeans; the restaurant itself is quietly elegant and accommodates the variety. The food is imaginative and delicious, and the service is excellent, attentive and pleasant. The triple menu provides marvelous regional and seasonal choices, while making sure a favorite is always available. We had a huge bowl of mussels marinara, carrot soup, campstyle trout, bronzino, and all the accompaniments, a gorgeous meal!
Excellent food and service. First time dining here but definitely will come again!
Excellent service and great food. Very nice wine list. Our first time there but will definitely return
Found Cafe Routier on Yelp and followed to Open Table. We tried the fried oysters - I'm not normally a fan, but these made me go back for seconds with the dipping sauce. The salad with the shaved asparagus was just right. We shared the bouillabaisse - the fish was soooo good and the liquid, like any good bouillabaisse, was great for 'sopping' the bread. We also split the turtle chocolate cake - this was delicious without being full-on decadent. The desserts are made on-site and it shows. Would recommend and look forward to visiting again when in the area.
It was an absolute delight with terrific service, ambience, and an ability to quietly talk with my dinner mate.
The food is very good and the service was friendly. The bar area was packed and the restaurant was lightly occupied but not empty. I like the regional and seasonal menu concept. There are plenty of good options. It is definitely not a "bargain" but the portions are more than adequate and I brought home leftovers.
Love this restaurant. Food is delicious and consistent and wait staff has been there a long time and is fun and professional. The best!
Our favorite restaurant in Westbrook. We have been coming here since they opened. Fresh and healthy food. Yes, they have fried clams if you must. But, there is so much more. Very good wine selection and finely crafted cocktails. Enjoy!
Their food, as always, was excellent! We all chose the lamb special and were not disappointed. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive and our dinners were served promptly. I would highly recommend this restaurant for every occasion, from casual dining to a celebration.
Clearly the best restaurant on the shoreline. The food is always exquisite and the service is always top-notch.
The food is exploratory yet homey. Each ingredient adds a highlight to the every dish and never takes away from the centerpiece and focus of the flavor of the meat. The chef is an expert in everyway, weaving a fabric of ingredients that is pleasant to the palate as well as to the eye. A true delight to dine at this establishment.
If the food wasn't enough, the service is professional and polite. Our server, Dan, was attentive and knew exactly how much conversation to engage in with our table. He is a true professional and an assest to this business.
Excellent food and service. Our second time here and we will be back!
