We had placed a note in our reservation that we would be celebrating our first dinner as a married couple. That message never got relayed to wait staff for our dinner. Disappointing, and even more so that when brought up to staff, they seemed insincere with apology. How hard is it to communicate to your staff? Clean it up Routier.
Always a favorite restaurant of ours with consistently great food and service. It's wonderful that they periodically change part of the menu to focus on a particular region and also do a seasonal change of another part of the menu while still keeping a solid regular section too with FANTASTIC items that are always delightful as well!
I was a bit disappointed this time. I have been here many times over the past 3 years. The seared scallops were a tad underdone and not very warm, (the turnip puree was almost chilly) and the glazed pork belly, which I had adored on a previous visit, was pretty much charred and tough. I will be back, but if I have another underwhelming experience, it might be the last time.
If you can go on a more quiet or less hectic night than Saturday, you would likely enjoy it more. The food is very good and consistent. We did have an appetizer that fell a little short ( usually tried and true) but that shouldn't deter you from going. Getting more popular and more hectic. Hope they can find a balance between a really full house and customer enjoyment. Make reservations way in advance!
The food has gotten better and better over the years and the range of offerings on the menu is outstanding. Many of the dishes are truly inventive and outstanding. Sadly, the service keeps getting worse and worse. The service lacks warmth, grace, and any sense of a caring attitude. Worth going for the food if you can ignore the largely serviceless service. Maybe they should place their fabulous food and drinks out buffet style and forego the hosts and waiters altogether.
First visit. More upscale than other restaurants in the area. Was in the dining area, they have a nice bar as well. Wife had Argentinian Cod which was like a bouillabaisse. She said it was delicious. I had the Osso Bucco which was made with short ribs, absolutely delicious. We had a lovely Pinot from Duckhorn, Russian River which was a good value as well. Appetizer we split was a great salad. The menu is interesting with 3 each of Themed dishes, Seasonal and Traditional choices. Lots of great choices. The dining room was cozy and quiet, about half full on a rainy Monday night so it must be popular with the locals.
Definitely will come back.
The food was nicely prepared. Our wait person was certainly pleasant enough, but our food was delivered pretty much by dropping it on the table. Felt very rushed. We were out of there in less than an hour. If you are in the neighborhood, go, but certainly don't travel any measured distance - it is not worth the drive
I don't think the Cafe Routier needs another great review because the place was packed. We were in the area to see a play and selected in from open table and it fulfilled every expectation. My husband and I had two delicious fish dishes, the trout and the halibut. Patty was our server who did a great job and made these wonderful recommendations.
Have had dinner here many times. Food is always good and this time was no exception. As other recent reviewers have acknowledged, seating is everything. We, with reservations, were seated promptly but were put in the back middle section with tables in the main room that looked to be open. It really diminished the experience but I'm nitpicking a little. The more important issue was the wait staff. Although courteous, I felt like I was being pushed. This was a Sunday and the dining rooms were about half full. Our drink orders were taken right away and delivered in a timely, comfortable, manner. No issue. However after repeated inquiries within a 5-10 minute timeframe I finally had to tell our server to give us a little "breathing space". After that, I thought everything proceeded at a more relaxed pace but still felt a little pressured. Not my typical experience at this place. I hope it is not a new trend. Cafe Routier is a good place it's not supposed to be at a fast food pace.
Cafe Routier has never let us down. We are locals and it's our favorite restaurant by far. Food is always excellent. Our waiter was attentive, friendly and had a great sense of humor. Cafe Routier always has interesting and sometimes exotic items on the menu, but you'd be a fool to leave there without trying the fries. They are fried heaven.
Two great dinners over Labor Day weekend! We never go to a restaurant twice in one weekend but this one is special. Unique concept of 3 separate menus and a great variety of unique dishes. Friendly professional service and awesome food in a great environment.
