Cafe Provencal - Williamsburg
Food and service wonderful. Will definitely return.
Our server was very attentive, knowledgeable, and kind. The food was exquisite (you must try the charcuterie) and was enhanced by the delicious wine. This is my go to restaurant the next time I'm in the area.
Enjoyed the experience. Server was very quick to offer suggestions and discourage others. Great wine list, adjacent to the Williamsburg Winery. Tables are close together and group of 4 sitting near us was louder than they needed to be.
I absolutely fell in love with this place! The food and staff we brilliant! And we got to meet the chef ! I will most definitely be coming back!
I wasn’t impressed with my entree. The pheasant seemed like it was prepared earlier or the day before and just reheated. The oyster stuffing did not have much flavor and I barely noticed that there were oysters in it. The chocolate tart for dessert was a pre made item and looked mass-produced. The service and ambiance was great but I can’t recommend the food unfortunately.
Thanksgiving was our first visit to Cafe Provencal and we were delighted with the experience. Our daughter and son-in-law joined us from No. Va for the holiday and since we've all traveled in Europe we agreed that the Cafe offered an exceptional meal. Amber was our server, she was knowledgable, professional and engaging with the guests. The atmosphere is cozy and charming. Every entree was prepared and presented beautifully, flavors were lovely. We will return.
Another outstanding meal at Cafe Provencal. Kudos to the chef and many thanks to Craig, our server, who gave such apt advice on our food choices. We'll be back!
We had visited this restaurant before and had a terrific dinner. This time, however, the food was either bland or quite over salted. The restaurant space was very chilly, and the price paid to experience both was very high. (Note: we will gladly pay a significant price if the food is worth it). Very disappointing. It will be a while before we try again.
Craig, our server, was fantastic. He was the highlight of the experience. He made great recommendations. We ordered cocktails and he brought a few suggestions for us to make them even better. He was attentive, fun, and knows his craft.
He even checked on the status of our room. We were staying at the inn associated with the restaurant. Our room had no heat and he checked on it throughout the meal to see if they could fix it.
Everything about our dining experience was first class! The menu had a variety of dishes that
were unique and extremely appealing. The fact that the restaurant was full on a week night
was especially nice, being this was a birthday celebration. Nothing worse than going to a
restaurant and no one else is there! Not very festive.
Everyone is the party were extremely pleased with their choice of beverage and menu offering. It was a very special evening.
The staff were exceptional. Chris was welcoming, warm, entertaining and responsive to our requests.
Everything about the Cafe was perfect for our occasion.
Service was great but the food was mediocre at best. I was expecting alot more from here. The wine and wine tasting was phenominal however
Truly one the best!!! The food was absolutely fantastic - one of the best dining experiences, ever!
The scallops were the best. Could not have asked more from the wait staff. The entire experience made for a memorable anniversary dinner.
Outstanding cafe nestled in the hotel. Chef does an outstanding job - creative use of local products. Go for a special occasion or just for an outstanding meal.
Wonderful, intimate restaurant with excellent food and very accommodating staff. Meals attractively and artistically presented. We’ve eaten there several times, and will most certainly return.
Food was amazing. Our server was very friendly but did appear overwhelmed at times. We wanted a cappuccino at the end of the meal and were told the machine had been broken for a couple of months!
Would definitely go back again because the food made the experience great.
Our experience at this restaurant was awful. It was an anniversary celebration. We were 4 people. The bottle of wine was WARM,( not room temperature but WARM) , the food in main course was tasteless and flavorless for 3 of 4 and average for 4th person. The dessert was completely tasteless . The appetizers were good. The room was hot- stuffy - noisy and tables were too close. This is a NOT at all a romantic restaurant. The greeter in the reception area was rude and inattentive. Our waiter was good but spoke too much of his former employer. All 4 people who were in attendance were in total agreement never to recommend this restaurant.
The food is amazing. Our server Craig guided us through the whole experience, giving us excellent recommendations and sharing his extensive knowledge of food with us. A truly quality restaurant.
On our Williamsburg vacation my husband and I opted for a quiet night out together and found it at Cafe Provencal at the Williamsburg Winery. Our waiter was attentive to our needs and helped with my wine selection. We both ordered the prix fixe menu which included salad, entree, and dessert. My husband ordered a carrot soup which he said was OK. My salad was good but had a meager amount of dressing. We both ordered filet mignon. There was only a tiny amount of sauce around it Mine was acceptable, but my husband had to send his back because it was burnt on the outside and dry. They made him another which was better, but he wasn't thrilled. Then he got a strange little dessert called chocolate pate. I got strawberry shortcake, which was a little bit of ice cream on a cookie. Then we got the bill. We were charged for an extra filet entree and had to have it corrected. All in all not a great experience.
Our first visit with special friends from out of state....perfect....the service was wonderful and the food was prepared and served exactly as advertised in menu and by waiter....taste and blend were great
A lovely intimate setting with a nice wine list and beautiful presentation
We thoroughly enjoyed the evening at Cafe Provencal. We celebrated a birthday and the special dessert provided by the owners was excellent. Our server was highly professional and pleasant. The food was superb and we would definitely return for another visit.
Set among the vines of Williamsburg Winery, Café Provencal is a gem. Great flavors, fresh ingredients and the wine list offered the winery's bottles at little markup over retail.
Chose this for a special diner occasion and had been planning to try it for quite some time. Expectations were high for this first time visit, owing to the winery's reputation, the website info, and the prices charged. Arriving had us confused about where to park and the building entrance marking was vague. Even more confusing was that we found ourselves entering with what turned out to be other dinner diners, confused because they were in shorts, tee shirts, and ball caps, that we saw worn throughout their meal. Entering, the first greeter gave us directions to go through a doorway, turn right and take the elevator to the cellar, all without rising from behind the rather isolating service center desk. Once we arrived at the dining room entrance, the hostess took our reservation name and that of the people that arrived just behind us, and lead both parties at the same time to separate tables. I feel this should have been handled individually. By this time, the observed surroundings were not living up to expectations. The view out the windows was nothing to see really, the chair was heavy and loudly dragged across the tile when I assisted my wife with hers. Service attention was prompt, but we were asked about water choice twice by different people. Drinks, salads, mains, and dessert all arrived with about the right amount of time in between so as to not have felt rushed. The staff was pleasant. The food was good. Filet meal and a scallop meal. All was educational, so if a next time, we will know better what to expect and relate that to the other dining choices in the area.
The food was very good, and the service excellent, and the waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful. The food was what you would expect in a higher end restaurant.
We had a wonderful time, it was a very special evening, and there was NO DISSAPOINTMENT for our 4. Chris did a wonderful job serving us in a very curtious and friendly way, and very efficient. We never had to ask for anything, he seemed to read our minds.
It was wonderful!!
We come here twice a year, for the 4th and for Grand Illumination. We often come with our married children. The restaurant is on the grounds of the Williamsburg Winery. The menu is seasonal, with locally sourced ingredients. This time there were 4 of us, and we all split two appetizers, and each ordered a different entree. Chef provided an Amuse Bouche (which was delicious), our waitress was efficient and professionally friendly. The food was delicious, the portions were ample, and we were allowed to linger with a claret. We continue to include Cafe Provencal every time we visit.
This is my favorite restaurant in Williamsburg! I love the intimate feel of this place, it is perfect for a special date night or anniversary. This was my second time dining here and I definitely will return to try more dishes. The wine list is very unique but everything is delicious especially all the wines from the Williamsburg Winery next door. The scallops are always divine as well as anything else you can order. Service is excellent
Great food and the service was outstanding. The only negative comment we had is the view of the pool with 10 very unattractive old people in swimming attire (I'm an unattractive old person). Nothing you can do about that, I guess. Maybe dine there in December or later in the evening.
I have had better meals here, but it remains a very fine restaurant.
Our male waiter with the beard was fantastic. I forget his name. Super knowledgeable. Food was good but I expected a little better. Crispy oysters good but wished there was a sauce. Rockfish good especially the broth but I felt like dish lacked something. Desserts were good especially the rhubarb claufuti - a bit rich after the meal. Couldn’t finish it and ice cream melting all over.
We just celebrated our 37th anniversary thee. The ambiance, service and food were all fantastic. Our server Chris was great - thanks!
Best presentation of scallops ever, cheese board appetizer was a riot of amazing flavors. Our waiter Craig recommended the house Chardonnay fermented in stainless steel without oak and it was the perfect compliment to both the appetizer and the scallops.
Ordered the filet migon and rack of lamb medium rare - both were way
under cooked and barely warm.
Some kind of tasteless sauce on both, barely any side veggies.
Bread and cheese plate very good.
Vacation with family
We arrived a little early, before the kitchen opened, but we were seated anyway. Both waiters welcomed us and got started on drinks. Our service was too notch and our experience was enjoyable. This was our first time eating here and would definitely come back...maybe without the kids. Perfect place for a romantic evening.
Excellent experience. First time visitors to Williamsburg in poor weather. This was the highlight of the trip. Our waiter Craig was extremely knowledgeable and we followed every recommendation. Great meal!
Charming, quiet, special little restaurant. This was our second time going there. Food and service are excellent. Nice place for splurging on a special occasion.
