Cafe Provencal - Williamsburg
I love the European feel and pleasant decoration of this place. We enjoyed a special menu, prepared just for the celebration of love and friendship. The menu, in a blend of flavors both intriguing and delightful, was a unique bounty for the palate. Each dish, exquisitely presented in a combination of colors, evoked a Surrealist piece of art. The service was excellent and friendly. We will definitely return.
I wrote a review 3 times and due to a bug in the OpenTable system it never went through. Not doing it again.
Incredible experience.... The Williamsburg Winery library, delectable meal, picturesque plate presentation, perfect ambiance, and attentive yet respectfully patient staff made for a very memorable valentine's day experience. I highly recommend Cafe Provencal. It is worthy of a visit each time I return to the surrounding area.
Birthday celebration
Beet Ravioli awesome!!! Definite winner...will return without a doubt
A romantic atmosphere, great wine selection, and a knowledgable and personable waiter (Craig) made for an amazing evening out in Williamsburg. Aside from the beautifully presented cheese and charcuterie plate and our delectable entrees (Seared Scallops over a bed of risotto and Red Snapper with clams), the chef surprised us with a scrumptious lamb-belly-based puff pastry. Later that evening, we ordered the Sweet Potato Cheesecake up to our room and it didn't disappoint. Needless to say, we had an incredible time at Cafe Provencal (and the attached Wedmore Place Hotel), and we would highly recommend it to anyone heading to Williamsburg.
The appetizer, starter course and the entree were very good. At that point my wife and I would have given the food and restuarant four or five stars. However, the cakes on a stick were overly sweet and tasteless. However, the desserts were even worse. Basically, they were inedible because of some overly strong flavor in each of the different desserts that my wife and I chose. The flav in the desserts did not complement them. I had the cheese cake with gelato and my wife had a dessert in a little crock with a lid. I can only recommend this restuarant if a person does not want a dessert. The dessert greatly lowered my overall score for this restuarant and I cannot recommend it to a friend. Sorry, someone needs to do a taste test on your desserts.
The Cafe is a unique place to eat because it resembles a European style/culture. Our server Amber was amazing! She described everything in very fine detail. When it came down to the wine/food and why the servings were petite. Great experience! I am recommending this to all my friends and family in the area.
We've been here twice before - never such an amazing meal as last evening. World class. Keep up the great work - we'll be back and tell our friends.
One of the top restaurants in Williamsburg. Outstanding service (thank you Amber) and very unique and well prepared food. The chef does a great job and the wine selection is wonderful and reasonable.
Everything about the experience was superb. Our server, Amber, was a real delight. She was pleasant, helpful and attentive. The food too was exceptional. The wild mushroom soup with thinly sliced duck breast was followed by a perfectly done filet.
Cocktails were well and carefully crafted by bartender, Craig.
This is one place not to miss when you are in the area.
Excellent service and beautiful atmosphere. Food was very good.
Always creative and delicious food. We were there for the restaurant week courses and they did not skimp for the amazing price. Our waiter was wine savvy and steered us in the right direction, pleasing the whole table. The ambiance is so cozy yet light. It never feels stuffy there but you do want to sit up a little straighter when you get served such pretty things in a pretty place by lovely people.
Returned to Cafe Provencal for restaurant week and was pleasantly surprised by the outstanding service and quality of the food. We will be back.
Great food and service. A little pricey, but the restaurant week deal was fantastic and wine club members get a discount, so it ended up being a reasonable price.
This restaurant is not what it used to be. The service was horribly slow, the food was good, but not remarkable, and the dessert was awful, hard like a rock as if it had been frozen before being served. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants for special occasions, but the food is very overpriced for the quality and even though we had a 7:30 reservation, we received NO food until 8:45 and the whole experience took well over 2 hours. We won't be coming again.
Me and my husband went here while staying at the Wedmore Place this past weekend and it did not disappoint. Our server was Amber ( i believe) and she was just fantastic in every way. Our food was wonderful as well. We had no complaints. The atmosphere was great. Service great. Food great. 5/5.
The service was oddly spotty for such an elegant restaurant. Candle on table was a melted mound of wax under glass; soup was brought without any spoon; server assured us there were no additional items though we heard servers describing a special appetizer at nearby tables; server had no idea what the wine I inquired about was like -- it was one of only 4 choices for whites by the glass.
Food was interesting and rich -- possibly too much so for me.
Nice complimentary amuse bouche.
I expected better all around.
For the price, the food and service need to be improved.
We had a lovely family Christmas dinner at Cafe Provençal. Both the service and the food was excellent. We will be celebrating many future special occasions here.
Christmas dinner was a limited menu & we were afraid we would be disappointed. Far from it! The salade was beautifully dressed and the soup was silky smooth. We both had the beef filet, which was done to perfection. The service was cosseting, but not smothering. The restaurant is in the middle of a winery and not the easiest place to find - but worth it.
Food did not quite live up to the hype, good but not exceptional. Atmosphere nice but almost too quite.. service good, manager was great.
Outstanding service the moment my husband and I walked in. Our server, Chris, was polite, humorous and attentive. The food was phenomenal so hats off to the chef!
Returning here is always a pleasure. A quiet and inviting atmosphere, enhanced by the friendly and helpful staff. We were greeted upon arrival by the manager, Bill and shown to our table. We had reviewed the menu online so had an idea what we might choose. Our server, Amber was especially good, friendly and quick with suggestions and recommendations. I chose the midweek menu, starting with the oxtail bouillon. It was a fine start, full of interesting tastes, great way to step beyond the franchise restaurant fare. For the main course, the filet was cooked to perfection, excellent quality. My wife had the Wessex Hundred Salad and at the suggestion of our server, she selected the scallops. She was delighted with that course. We completed a wonderful meal with another unique dish, Pyment Panna Cotta dessert. So good! This was a perfect sendoff, along with the great selection of wine that was available. We will be back soon.
Food and service wonderful. Will definitely return.
Our server was very attentive, knowledgeable, and kind. The food was exquisite (you must try the charcuterie) and was enhanced by the delicious wine. This is my go to restaurant the next time I'm in the area.
Enjoyed the experience. Server was very quick to offer suggestions and discourage others. Great wine list, adjacent to the Williamsburg Winery. Tables are close together and group of 4 sitting near us was louder than they needed to be.
I absolutely fell in love with this place! The food and staff we brilliant! And we got to meet the chef ! I will most definitely be coming back!
I wasn’t impressed with my entree. The pheasant seemed like it was prepared earlier or the day before and just reheated. The oyster stuffing did not have much flavor and I barely noticed that there were oysters in it. The chocolate tart for dessert was a pre made item and looked mass-produced. The service and ambiance was great but I can’t recommend the food unfortunately.
Thanksgiving was our first visit to Cafe Provencal and we were delighted with the experience. Our daughter and son-in-law joined us from No. Va for the holiday and since we've all traveled in Europe we agreed that the Cafe offered an exceptional meal. Amber was our server, she was knowledgable, professional and engaging with the guests. The atmosphere is cozy and charming. Every entree was prepared and presented beautifully, flavors were lovely. We will return.
Another outstanding meal at Cafe Provencal. Kudos to the chef and many thanks to Craig, our server, who gave such apt advice on our food choices. We'll be back!
We had visited this restaurant before and had a terrific dinner. This time, however, the food was either bland or quite over salted. The restaurant space was very chilly, and the price paid to experience both was very high. (Note: we will gladly pay a significant price if the food is worth it). Very disappointing. It will be a while before we try again.
Craig, our server, was fantastic. He was the highlight of the experience. He made great recommendations. We ordered cocktails and he brought a few suggestions for us to make them even better. He was attentive, fun, and knows his craft.
He even checked on the status of our room. We were staying at the inn associated with the restaurant. Our room had no heat and he checked on it throughout the meal to see if they could fix it.
Everything about our dining experience was first class! The menu had a variety of dishes that
were unique and extremely appealing. The fact that the restaurant was full on a week night
was especially nice, being this was a birthday celebration. Nothing worse than going to a
restaurant and no one else is there! Not very festive.
Everyone is the party were extremely pleased with their choice of beverage and menu offering. It was a very special evening.
The staff were exceptional. Chris was welcoming, warm, entertaining and responsive to our requests.
Everything about the Cafe was perfect for our occasion.
Service was great but the food was mediocre at best. I was expecting alot more from here. The wine and wine tasting was phenominal however
Truly one the best!!! The food was absolutely fantastic - one of the best dining experiences, ever!
The scallops were the best. Could not have asked more from the wait staff. The entire experience made for a memorable anniversary dinner.
Outstanding cafe nestled in the hotel. Chef does an outstanding job - creative use of local products. Go for a special occasion or just for an outstanding meal.
Wonderful, intimate restaurant with excellent food and very accommodating staff. Meals attractively and artistically presented. We’ve eaten there several times, and will most certainly return.
