Although the view was beautiful the food was terrible. It was not fresh, had poor presentation, and seemed prepared days ago and then microwaved. Even the bread seemed warmed in microwave. Such a let down.

Where do I begin?? The lobster tail that is supposedly market price was frozen, the chicken was precooked and boiled with absolutely no seasoning, the Caesar salad was missing its croutons, the water was not refilled even after requesting, and the waiter was too busy complaining to other people about the customers. He seemed more preoccupied checking his tips rather than checking the people he was serving. He seemed very pushy with the cocktail menu even after we denied multiple times. The wait time was abhorrently long for some simple items and overall, was not a pleasant experience for the price that was paid. The only good thing about the restaurant was the view and the guy that was playing the violin.

It was my last night at The Royal Sonesta, so I made a reservation at Cafe Portofino based on the 5 ⭐️ rating on Open Table. Truly disappointed! No one greeted me when I arrived, although several servers acknowledged I was there and said the Hostess was coming. It took over 15 minutes before I was seated. Server was pleasant but seemed rushed although the restaurant wasn't busy. The server didn't mention any of the specials for the night, although he did provide that info to other diners that arrived after me. I placed my order for the calamari fritti appetizer ordered a bottle of wine and my entree linguine alle vongole. My bottle of Gabbiano Chianti, which I'm familiar with was warm and tasted like it was about to turn (bleh). The calamari was fried haphazardly and greasy. The server informed me that they ran out of clams, so I had to choose another entree. I chose the Seafood Pasta Diavolo. I took a few bites of the shrimp and fish that didn't taste fresh at all. The pasta and the sauce were palatable. Not sure how they received a 5⭐️ rating. Maybe they were having an off day. Despite my disappointment, I didn't let this experience dampen the amazing time I had in Kauai.

I made a reservation for a special birthday dinner for 7/11/25 at 8:30 p.m. The reservation was made several days before and I received an initial confirmation from Open Table followed a few days later by a request by both email and text to confirm we would be using the reservation. I did submit the confirmation but when we showed up for dinner at the appropriate time, we were told that the restaurant had closed for the evening and would not seat us. The man who spoke to us identified himself as the owner Giuseppe Avocadi. I was extremely upset and repeatedly asked him why a reservation that had been successfully made and confirmed through Open Table for a specific date and time was accepted in the first place by his restaurant and then not honored when we arrived. He never offered an explanation as to why the reservation would not be honored, but simply said he did not have a way to contact me because the reservation was made through Open Table rather than directly through the restaurant. There should not have been a need to contact me in the first place since I had a valid reservation. As upsetting and inexcusable as it was to be refused seating, the fact that the owner couldn’t/didn’t give me an explanation as to why the reservation wasn’t being honored was particularly disturbing. This was compounded by his cavalier attitude that was totally lacking in empathy or concern for our situation. Needless to say, the special birthday dinner that had been planned did not occur, and to no fault of my own.

We were very disappointed with our meal. Mushy peppers which looked left over from the day before, no potatoes as mentioned on the menu. We had to ask for them and it was clear the waiter knew we were missing them but wasn’t going to correct it unless we asked. Meat portions were very small and unimpressive for the price. The overall dining experience was poor. We won’t be back
