Our usual last night on the island and is didn't disappoint. Was very good. The food was excellent, the service quick and of course being just above the beach is lovely. No complaints. Would recommend.
Food was not very good. Marinara sauce was bad. Service was fair. Greeting person, probably the proprietor was not social or nice greeting. Took 3-4 bites of food and no more.
We were staying at Marriott Beach Club. We ate at restaurant twice however, service was poor both times. Forgot husbands drink, after we asked twice. No bread served first time.
The setting was lovely, the service attentive and professional. The food quality was just so-so.
My husband ordered the pasta special and hardly got any pasta.
We will not go back.
Enjoyed eating at Cafe Portofino overlooking the water. Food and service by Christina was great.
The food and experience was unforgettable. Great wine selection. Kelly was amazing! We went there two nights in a row. We will return for sure!
As resident on Kauai I really love going to Cafe Portofino. Sometimes we go once a week. Weather getting an entree or pizza and a salad it is always delicious. The service is excellent even when they were busy and short on servers. The view at sunset time is fabulous.
GF pizza was great. Server was nice and polite. Place was very busy and they were short staffed.
Loved it. Open air. Very authentic high quality Italian cuisine.
The food was terrible!
Food was FABULOUS in an EXTRAORDINARY setting. 10 STAR quality.
From our welcome by the owner, who seated us at a prime table overlooking the beach to the delicious food and fine service, everything was perfect for our last night of two weeks stay. Highly recommend!
The waitress was personable but clearly overworked. The restaurant was woefully understaffed which led to long delays and marginal service.
Dinner was great from the filet to the Alfredo, and the wine was worth every penny! Had a going off island dinner with family and the service was exceptional, glasses were never empty and the pictures on the deck were great.
Great ambiance right on Kalapaki bay.
Portions were small for the price. Pasta was dry and lacked flavor. Meat was overcooked and dry. GREAT ATMOSPHERE AND VIEW! Go to Dukes next door!
We always try and schedule a meal at Portofino and have been coming here since the “Harp” playing days, long time. I had the carbonara and it was as good as I have ever had and I have had it in Roma. My wife had the shrimp in primavera which was fine. Best idea for dessert we have had even with espresso was to pour a shot over ice cream in a champagne grass (affogato al caffe). Delicious.
I think our waiter was newer and overwhelmed. Maybe staffing shortage? And they were out of the wine we wanted. And the red wine was served above drinking temperature but they did bring us a cooler. My friend order the fish of the day and they brought her chicken!! The server I think just picked up the wrong plate so was able to replace immediately. I just feel sorry for the person that got the chicken with a bite taken out of it. OK just kidding. I’m sure they cooked her a new one, ha! Eventually, the sommelier took over amd helped clear dishes etc.
No Pizza on Wednesday, which is why I went there. We were seated and ordered drinks before we were informed of this.
The 4 of us thought it was a bit different to have new potatoes with our chicken piccata entree. We would have preferred Risotto or other type of rice
Chicken piccata was very good
It was not the best
The food was very mediocre, maybe it was my pasta that wasn’t blowing me away. The wine was tasty and the service wasn’t the friendliest but I assume they were busy so we understood. The view is gorgeous and I love the music selection.
Great restaurant right overlooking the beach. Super yummy food!
With all the issues on island they still manage to get it right!
The owner is very rude
good food selection (I had the fish) and my guests had pasta and steak, I think.
Enjoyed the view and the wine but didn't have room for dessert. we'll be back.
The antipasti was large enough for four with a wide selection of meats, bruschetta, peppers... all well prepared and delicious. All of the mains were excellent. Chicken Parmesan - usually horrid as a convention dish was perfectly prepared and well sauced. The Ono piccata was a surprise and not over cooked nor too lemony. The chicken Marsala was bright and well cooked. The wine list is varied with prices for decent wines in the $40 range. We had a Frescobaldi toscana at $60. Wonderful view! Excellent staff - and perhaps one short but personable, interactive, knowledgeable and helpful.
Excellent dining experience. Suitable for couples, families, any special night
Would definitely go back!
Saw this place had great reviews and it did not disappoint. Great views on the water. Service was great. Food was excellent.
The service was terrible. No one was friendly at all. It was like they didn’t enjoy working there. The food was mediocre. We had been to Duke’s two nights before and had a wonderful dinner, and service, Sadly this was nothing like our experience at Duke’s where the server seemed to be glad she was working.
Food was cold coming out of kitchen waitress was to busy trying to be everyone's friend and not looking after her other guest
A marvelous dining experience, great food and beautiful setting overlooking Kalapaki Beach. A must for us when visiting Kauai.
Server didn’t come to the table for a long time. When he did he dropped the bread and said, “Don’t touch the bread yet.” We didn’t and waited another 10 minutes before he appeared with our water. Perhaps he knew the bread was dry and hard so we had to wait for the water first?? Seeing that it may take a while to get service, we placed our entire dinner order while we had his attention. Appetizers took about 20 minutes to arrive, followed by another 20 minute wait for entrees. One of the two steaks were over cooked (ordered medium, came very well done), both steaks did not have the Chianti Demi as described on the menu either. The pasta dishes were both over cooked. The lamb dish was wonderful. All in all, it was a sad experience for us as we had high expectations.
The restaurant is up stairs and I didn't see elevator. Once there, we were greeted fairly fast. Once seated, the waitress took our drink order and gave us a little time to look over the menu. Our meal came out rather fast and the waitress gave us the impression she wanted us away from the table, rather rushed. The food was very good.
Wonderful service. Great setting. Food was very good. Harp player was incredible.
We ate at Cafe Portofino three nights in a row while staying at the Marriott. We tried several items on the menu and had different servers each night. Everything was excellent , house made and we were always given excellent service.
We were in Kauai for one week and we ate here 3 times! The food was delicious! My husband is Italian and we are very picky about our Italian food. The pastas were amazing and we couldn’t get enough of their wood fire pizza! Thin, crispy crust, just like in Italy! Now, since we were in Hawaii, we also had to have fresh fish! Well, this was the right place! Their white fish dinner with butter caper sauce, veggies, and roasted potatoes was so delectable! Next, one more food recommendation, their spinach, portobello salad was out of this world! We ordered it all three nights! Now on to the staff and ambitious! We dined on their beautiful deck overlooking the ocean! Couldn’t ask for more! Finally, the staff was outstanding! Friendly, knowledgeable, and professional! They made our experiences so very memorable, and their recommendations were spot on!
Thank you Cafe Portofino! We can’t wait to come back! Ciao! Ciao!
Food and service was up to normal par levels. Only one disappointment tho, we came for pizza, only to find out that Wednesday’s are the only nights where their pizzeria is closed. Also, happy hour specials have been eliminated too. Good information to know.
