Cafe Nuovo Ratings and Reviews
I have been to Cafe Nuovo many times before and have had pretty good experiences. This year, I had a reservation for 8:30 on a Christmas Eve and was seated closer to 9:00 pm. I was with a party of 10 people and I noticed some other large parties in the restaurant. The food was pretty good as always, but unfortunately the service missed the mark. From the moment we sat down (for a nice holiday meal) we felt as though we were a burden to our two (or) three waiters/waitresses. We were told we had to order our dinner upon sitting down because all of the "good dishes" were "running out." The waiters were extremely cold and unpleasant throughout the entire meal. Even though the food was good, the service absolutely ruined the experience for us. When spending around 1,000 on a meal you would think the waiters would crack a smile and say Merry Christmas upon leaving but instead we were left with dirty looks as they rushed us out. Cafe Nuovo has always been a Christmas Eve tradition, but after this experience, we will change our plans for next year. It doesn't matter how good the food is because Service is 80% of the equation.
Christmas Eve at a restaurant doesn’t sound very family oriented but our special night with my husband and sons was perfect from the table selection to the pot of mousse dessert. We were greated immediately by the Manager (Dimitri) and then seated at a beautiful holiday themed table .Service was so efficient and yet we never felt hurried. Both sons had the veal involtini (recommended by our wonderful waiter Keith) and not a drop was left on the plates! Boneless beef short ribs for my husband were gone in the twinkling of an eye and my special Cod dish was a Christmas delight. Just a lovely night in every way.
This was my second time at this restaurant. Celebrated my boyfriend’s 40th birthday. It was his first time and he loved the food, service and the elegant atmosphere. The food is absolutely delicious and out of this world. I don’t drink but I ordered white sangria and I have to say it was absolutely perfect, the way I like it. The wine in my sangria was blended so well that I enjoyed the taste of a cocktail not feeling the alcohol taste at all.
We have always looked forward to going here for dinner but this time it did not meet our expectations. The service was less then attentive and several of the meals were served cool rather than hot. Unfortunately we couldn't get that corrected because the waiter never came back to check on us until we had finished our meals. In addition, some of the selections, such as the short rib, lacked flavor and were a bit dry. All in all not the fine dining experience that we have had in the past.
I have been to many good restaurants such as Gracie’s, Hemenway’s and Mills Tavern etc, Cafe Nuovo is supposedly as good as those one( Including foods and services) First of all, it was nice that someone opened the door for us and helped us with our coats. Then my sister almost slipped on the floor because for some reason the floor wasn’t flat. Half an hour late a lady fell on the floor in the same spot. After we seated I have to ask the waiter for a menu for drinks like maybe I should teach the waiter how to serve people? Aren’t we supposed to get a menu after we seated? Also we waited for almost 20min to be served. Seriously the restaurant isn’t short handed because I see a lot of waitresses and waiters and it was on a Wednesday night. Our water glasses were empty and have to ask for more water. Let me be honest, the foods and drinks are awesome but the services were awful, unfortunately I am one of those very picky people, I am all about services even the foods aren’t good. But for the price we were paying for the services I won’t come back again. I don’t normally complain but I am really upset about last night dining experience.
Café Nuovo is an old friend, where its stunning décor and truly professional service make it the right place for a celebratory birthday luncheon. Once seated, we were disappointed to see a lunch menu that was essentially salads and sandwiches. Not the inventive, Italian-influenced cuisine we have had there in the past. But then the attentive waiter said we could order off the dinner menu. And our two main dishes were excellent. Further, the two desserts we got were both works of sculpture art and very tasty. To be noted also is their wine list: good range, fair prices.
In sum, a very enjoyable experience, worth the money.
Overall a great experience. Our waiter Keith did a great job, attentive, but not too attentive. The food was great. I had the salad special of the day which was a Seafood Salad (Calamari, Cod and Shrimp) on a bed of Arugula with a Olive Oil/Lemon Vinaigrette with Roasted Red Peppers and Cherry Tomatoes which was great! For the entrees I had the Short Ribs (delicious) and my wife had the Risotto and Beef Tenderloin (great). We both had dessert, she had the Creme Brulee and I had the Nuovo Neapolitan (both were excellent). It was a more upscale place than many in Providence, so dress for the occasion.
We were on time for the reservation and we were taken right to our table. Our waiter was very polite and provided great service. There was a large party in the dining room area and I think as a result, service took a little longer than it should. We received our dinner and it was cold as if it had been sitting before being brought to us. We explained this to our waiter and he returned it but it seems as if they just microwaved the meals. Heard great reviews about this place but not in a hurry to go back.
We celebrated my husband’s birthday here last night. We had a party of 12. The service was slow and wasn’t as professional as we would expect at a restaurant in this category. Our server delivered drinks to people who hadn’t ordered and forgot others. He never checked with us after meals were delivered. One guest’s meal was served cold, but she never had a chance to have it corrected. Food was good, but not not plentiful.
As always, the food and the service were impeccable! Our server, John was attentive and friendly but not intrusive. The presentation was beautiful and the food was perfectly prepared. Bravo! We had a fabulous meal and the atmosphere was lively but not too loud. Thank you. I will be returning soon!
Food quality, taste and quantity were very poor. The waiter had the stand off-ish attitude. We dined out a lot and our friend told us to give us a try. We will definitely not be going back. I am a J &W graduate and have been a manager in the hospitality field . This place needs a lot of help in a very competitive market.
Haven't been in a while but won't be hurrying to get back. Food was average ... nothing remarkable. My veal chop was ordered medium but served medium-well and to make it worse was served warm. Other meals were all fine but disappointing overall vs. their reputation and price.
Though Cafe Nuovo is a bit pricy the atmosphere and the ambience is wonderful. The food is very good and the service is always good. For a romantic special occasion Cafe Nuovo definitely fills the bill. Thank you to the staff for their friendliness and great customer service.
I had the swordfish grill with polenta and spinach as my sides. The Swordfish was grilled to perfection and the polenta was the best I've ever had. The spinach was great too. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed their meals as well as the service. Our waiter, also a sommelier, was able to recommend a wonderful wine to accompany dinner. Sean is always awesome.
SUPERB food, genuinely attentive service, and a GREAT location! We enjoyed a lunch on Monday with a view of the river. We both had specials and an excellent bottle of wine. Keith was a pleasure as a server -- he knew the menu and had pro-level table manners (even with our 5-star expectations!)
