Amazing food. Hidden gem.
Portions were a good size! Food well presented and super flavorful. Worth the price for sure. The decor is a bit dated but still a romantic setting for a date night.
Ambiance was great and our server seemed a little inexperienced, but was nice (and there is COVID). Except for the paella (great) the food was below expectations. Portions were too large and presentation was lacking. The butter was in individual containers, like Denny’s, hopefully due to COVID concerns? Finally, when we asked to take the leftovers we were brought boxes instead of having the food boxed for us.
As expected, wonderful experience with amazing food and service
This is a neighborhood gem! Distinctive food that you will not find elsewhere, and a superior experience.
The service recently was just perfect as well.
We haven't been to Cafe Madrid for a while, now I know why. After a long wait to get our Server to come and open our wine bottle (he was also the host), we were able to place our order. Based upon the recommendation of our Server, I ordered the lasagna and my wife the chicken marsala. He made it a point to mention that both dishes were house specialties and exceptional. Ten minutes later he came back to inform me that they had run out of lasagna. Now you tell me, how can an upscale restaurant run out of one of the favorite dishes on a Saturday night at 6:30 PM??? In addition, our Server was very arrogant and unfriendly. We will not be going back. Not worth the $$ and definitely not worth the frustration.
This was our second time there and as usual as soon as we arrive we were greeted very respectfully and with a big smile! The food is exceptional! We ordered the Pulpo a la Gallega and Plato de Quesos as appetizers. For entrees we order the Lasagna, Fresh Salmon with Butter Lemon and Solomillo de Buey. As drinks we had the Homestyle Sangria and let me say that is the best cocktail/wine you can have with any entree! And for the second time we were amazed of the service, quality of food and the noise level was minimal. The place is super classy and extremely clean.
Nice selection of items in the menu. The ambience and decoration are wonderful and goes with the Art on their walls. This is a place that I will return to.
This was my first time having brunch there. It was lovely, quiet with great service, food and ambiance.
beer 🍻 selection is too limited, would have liked local selections
Aldean(I hope I spelled his name correctly!) was fantastic. Service was excellent. We had the seafood paella. It was very good too. If you have the seafood paella, see if they have gulas available (off menu item.) The gulas made the paella even better!
Delicious as always!
It’s always great- our Fav.
the food were awesome...
I would recommend real flowers instead of artificial one for centerpieces!
The lobster bisque was not "lobster" ... it had a bit of mashed potato and a shrimp in the center... no pieces of lobster at all.
The chicken noodle soup was not as rich in flavor and it too was "subsidized" with numerous chunks of potato.
Very high price for poorly executed Spanish cuisine. The tapas are lacking flavor and authenticity . The Pulpo was fishy and absolutely horrible and had nothing to do with Galician octopus. The Fideua was literally cheap spaghetti with a runny sauce.
The cheese and meat board had borderline rancid jamon.
The owner is from Argentina, not Spain, and maybe has never had authentic Spanish cuisine in Spain?
Or can't keep kitchen staff long enough to make authentic food.
Avoid this expensive poser.
Beautiful place. Enjoyed the brussels sprouts, bacon wrapped dates, and shrimp and scallops. Lamb shank was ok. Rioja was nice. Loved ambiance. The bread was a nice surprise. Despite desire to avoid carbs, it was worth it.
There was such a good selection of tasty tapas that we didn't get to the main courses. We will have to go back. We had sausage, meatballs, and shrimp, which were all good. The host was very accommodating. The ambience is very mellow and warm.
Been there before and loved every bit of it so take that into consideration, but the last time our server was dismissive of us and seemed to favor other patrons. He offered the most expensive bottle of wine to us right off the bat and only suggested some others after we indicated that we were not in the the market to spend quite that much on a bottle... and after that the service went down. Additionally, we ordered the octopus (which I've had there before and it's been great) but it seemed to have turned and was super fishy. All that would have been fine had our server been more attentive, especially at the end when we waited after all other patrons had left sitting there for 30 minutes waiting for the bill and having finished everything...
New Years Eve special was awesome..........great food and service.
Went for New Years Eve. Service was quick. Didn't know beforehand it was a pre-fix, but turned out ok because I always get the tenderloin. Only moose or sorbet for desert. Waiter didn't seem particularly friendly or informative, but that usually doesn't bother me, but I would have preferred a little more information or recommendations on the menu. I'd give it a B+ A- this time.
The food was delicious, music was a bit loud, ordered a side salad and was charged the full salad price. This could have been my fault as I wasn't clear when I ordered. The salad was delicious. Absolutely no complaints on the food.
Christmas Eve family dinner. The food is exceptional. Pretty much a “sure thing,” a “can’t miss.” Moderately expensive but you will leave feeling good about what you paid for and the service level.
As always, Cafe Madrid creates memories with the food and atmosphere, whether it’s Christmas Eve or a Tapas spread. We’ve been with Cafe Madrid from their beginnings on 3300 South to their current location on Highland Drive. Oftentimes when a fantastic restaurant changes hands, quality and favorites can be compromised. Cafe Madrid has maintained the magic that started it all and continues to create an unrivaled culinary experience.
Loved our dinner at Cafe Madrid. Food, service and ambience was outstanding!
Cafe Madrid is one of our favorite restaurants. We love the food and the ambience. The staff are so attentive too.
I come here often. Great food and wonderful cozy atmosphere.
Good food---not spectacular but good. Drinks mildly overpriced and ok. Ambience was nice and quiet--only one other couple when we were there. Dessert mousse was much denser than expected but brulee dessert was delicious
Everything was great! I wish they had a more reasonable corkage fee $18 is pretty steep. Most restaurant are less.
Outdated menu, uninspired and poorly presented plates, lackluster service. It’s a shame - beautiful building and could be a really cute place for a date, but the food was TERRIBLE! It started with the sangria - something I would think a Spanish restaurant would get right. It was watered down, near flavorless (the waiter admitted mostly triple sec), and had an almost chemical aftertaste. We didn’t drink it after we tried it, and tellingly, the waiter opted not to charge us for it. We had hoped the food would be better, but after an uninspired charcuterie plate poorly presented with unwashed grapes, our hopes plummeted. I won’t bore you with details of the rest of the meal, other than to say it was largely heavy, overcooked, and borderline disgusting. Keep the building - tone down the frilly nature of the decor - get an inspired chef and a server with personality, and start serving good food folks! You could do amazingly with the fun setting you have, but you’ve missed on all the other fundamentals!
Was able to snag a table later into the night. Despite being one of the last tables, the service still held up and was an excellent feeling. Our waiter knew the menu well and offered some great choices. The duck and cod are amazing. Overall a great experience!
The food was delicious and the service was on point
For me and my daughter it was a regular night out
But it’s a pretty romantic spot perfect for a date
Delicious meal! Cod was amazing and lemon mousse was the perfect finish.
They seemed understaffed possibly. Our waiter would disappear for long periods. It resulted in us just getting tapas because it took so long. They were delicious but instead of them making $150 bucks off us they made $50 due to the service. I love the food here so 1 bad experience won’t keep us away but we probably won’t go back as often now.
Great ambience, and service. Price is worth it
We had only been to Cafe Madrid one other time and so during covid, it fell off our radar. So glad to be back and we WILL be back. We have yet to do entrees because the small plates are so excellent. Highly recommend: the goat cheese rellenjos, frittata, the meatballs and the Brussels sprouts. Divine. We also shared the lemon mousse with honey (no walnuts) for dessert and I’m *still* thinking about it. Cafe Madrid is now in our top 2 of best restaurants in SLC (Harbor is the other)
Beautiful patio. Great food. Great Service. Highly recommend.
Amazing customer service and food. For my first time, would not have changed anything. A little pricey but you pay for service and experience. Highly recommend
Food was so good. Server was great . She was very nice. We enjoyed everything. Will go back again.
It’s was our Anniversary and we wanted to go somewhere new. It was our first time dining at Cafe Madrid. We sat outside and it was Sunday Brunch . It was a beautiful setting and the food was excellent. The server was very helpful with our choices. The flowers and decor were very calming. The creme brûlée cake was amazing. Definitely will be going back
