Cafe Josie Ratings and Reviews
Went here for anniversary dinner and The Experience menu was so tasty and creative in addition to being fun getting a few tastes of so many different dishes. It was also very quiet, hard to find in Austin now. It was Monday evening though so maybe not as quiet on weekends. But we loved it and would definitely recommend.
Wow. It was their first time doing brunch and I had heard good things. A friend and I had about 15? plates. Too me, they're too tiny even for tapas. I enjoyed all the plates except the baby bok choy and fried rice. That was an awful way to end such a pleasant meal. But everything else was great, the fried chicken, the pancakes, the pumpkin roll, mimosas etc. We managed to sit next to a table of boisterous people so it was a bit difficult to hear but aside from that, I'll be back again!
A friend who lives here recommended this restaurant. We liked it so much that we plan to make it a weekly event while we’re in town for 2 months. Pulled pork special was fabulous and a beautiful Burgundy Pinot noir. Loved the jazz duo but the noise level grew as dinner hour rolled around and I doubt anyone really heard them. Overall, we liked every aspect of this charming and cozy restaurant. Great food, great wait staff, soft lighting. And, half price wine on Tuesday is always a treat.
A group of 8 visiting Austin dined at Cafe Josie and it was spectacular! The food was fabulous and the concept of the unlimited small plates was unique. We had a wonderful evening sitting outside and thoroughly enjoyed our evening and wonderful meal. Great job, Cafe Josie!
Thoroughly enjoyed dinner. Had not realized that it was only a tasting menu. We tried almost everything on the menu and loved all of it.
I also enjoyed the leisurely pace of the meal. We could sit and visit, think about what we wanted next, all without worrying if someone was coming for our plate.
This was our second trip and Cafe Josie did not disappoint. Menu changes regularly so it was completely different than the last time we were there. Food was outstanding! Great little plates served endlessly. We left full and happy. Service was outstanding but, to be fair, we went early before they were very busy so it's hard to tell how it would work with a full house. We both ordered "The Experience" which, in our opinion, is the only way to go in this restaurant.
Sat outside on a gorgeous night. Most of the dishes we had were very good. A few standouts were the brussel sprouts, smoked pimento cheese, shells and cheese, smoked chicken, and the creme brule. The only downside to the experience was the slow coursing and drink service. Just a heads up, the dessert is not included in the tasting menu pricing (but is worth it if you have room). Would give it another shot since the food and ambiance were so good!
Danielle was AWESOME! She loves her job and makes you love her for the experience! We sat outside and the service was just as good as it is indoors.
We tried almost everything on the prix fixe menu. Brussel sprouts are still our favorite in town and we ordered seconds of these. The fried goat cheese is amazing too! The cauliflower went well with the little spare rib-order one for everyone in your party-can't really share this. The shells and cheese were delicious and paired well with the smoked chicken.
The swordfish was a feature not on the menu. It was incredible! Save room for the banana beignets with maple rum ice cream and fresh brewed coffee.
We will be back!!!!!!
The dining experience was interesting. You choose small plates which are delivered one plate at a time. Many choices are available and you can order as many plates as you wish for this pris fixe price. It is dining with dinner deconstructed into these dishes. Service was timely and well paced. The food itself was mostly very good but a bit salty for our tastes. Because the menu is set, this restaurant would best fall into a special occasion visit.
Amazing amazing food!!! If you like to try different foods, go for the Experience! You get a little bit of everything and can order as much as you want for one price! We had fun and really enjoyed our evening there! Danni, our waitress, was amazing! She made us feel right at home. We will definitely be back!
We sat outside in their cute patio area and loved it. Worried at first service wouldn't be as good as only one other table out there with us, but our server was great. We ordered 4 courses to start with the unlimited course experience and each dish was amazing. My boyfriend got the pork dish twice. Get the brussel sprouts! Have never tasted something like that and was so good. We would go back here a lot if we lived in Austin.
Food was great except one dish - the fried goat cheese. It was in a green pesto-like sauce that was really not good. All the other dishes were extremely creative and delicious. Our problem is with the air conditioning. It was cool when we got there and started getting humid and hot as we ate. I was sweating head to toe. Other folks in the restaurant were sweating. Shame of you, Cafe Jose, for feeding me great food and messing up my evening by not running the GD AC.
Outstanding in every way. Creative cuisine beautifully presented. The tasting menu, called "The Experience," is the best value in the city. Our server, Vincent, guided us through the many delicious options on the menu and made the evening as good as it gets.
The visit was the second time to try the "experience" menu. We had a foody friend in from Atlanta who was blown away with the variety of dishes and the quality of the food and presentation. Vincent (waiter) was extremely attentive. For sure we will go back again.
Absolutely, one of our best dinners in Austin. Our server, Taylor, was outstanding- attentive, yet not overbearing. Jazz tonight nice background; still room for great conversation without having to feel like you need to yell at each other. But, I have neglected to say that the food was truly magnificent-- delicious, varied, creative without getting crazy-- we loved it.
We will be back!
We eat out at least twice a week and we have so many options to choose from in Austin. Josie's just made #1 on our list! I cannot wait to go back. I was too full to try everything on the perfectly matched and proportioned prix fixe menu (all you can eat for just $45/person). We had bread with the most incredibly addictive garlic butter I've ever tasted, followed by my new favorite Brussel sprouts (delectable honey glaze and pecans) that I could have had seconds or even thirds of! The fried goat cheese was beautiful with my sparkling bubbly too! The peach salad was so yummy and the fried oysters were light and tasty. The brisket was so tender and the banana beignets with maple rum ice cream were TO DIE FOR!!!!! I have at least 6 items I was too full for, so I've got to get back before the menu changes (about every 4 months with the seasons) according to our fabulous waiter, Vincent. Oh-there's parking behind the restaurant too!!!!!
Cafe Josie is my favorite place for a nice dinner in Austin. The Experience is so FUN, it livens up even a bad date. It's nice to know what you are paying going in and even if one of the small plates doesn't knock your socks off, you just try the next thing! Plus, unlimited plates means you don't leave hungry. The ambiance is great, the location is convenient for post-dinner drinks and the service has been fabulous every time I've gone.
