   We saw Cafe Fina on a PBS Show called “Bay Area Check Please”and decided we should try their food. Everything we had was on point. The Crab Cakes Appetizer was delicious and a great starter . The fresh clam pasta dish and Pasta Gianni weee both well seasoned and the pasta was perfectly cooked al dente. It was a perfect afternoon lunch while visiting The Monterey area.    We had a wonderful dining experience at Café Fina the other evening. We were seated in the back portion of the restaurant that has a beautiful view of the water. Our server was Roxanne, who was fantastic. She was attentive to our needs, offered suggestions and explanations on the menu choices, and allowed us to take our time. We ordered the clam chowder, that was delicious and not over stuffed with potatoes rather than clams . Our entrées were petrale sole, fresh caught in the Monterey Bay that day, and halibut . Both entrees were well prepared and served with fresh vegetables. We will definitely return to Cafe Fina when in the Monterey area.

   Tourist trap. I'm sorry, but for me it's a big NO. The only thing I can save Is the wine (Piper brut Sonoma). We are italian and that is almost an insult to Italian cuisine, but the biggest problem was that food was not freshly cooked, but warmed up. The result was we waited only about ten minutes to have mediocre dishes with the wrong consistencies and paid way too much for the quality and quantity. Absolutely not recommended.

   It was amazing, that they charged us for everything in addition to our orders, i.e.,for hot water, for replacement of butter with olive oil! The decor/venue is dated. Was not a restaurant that we go back to!!

   We had oysters, clam chowder, veal piccata and pesto prawns with penne pasta. All were delicious. The oysters were large and flavorful. The clam chowder was rich & creamy. The veal was tender and delicious. I would have liked more basil flavor in the prawns dish however it was very tasty also. We had a cabernet sauvignon and a pinot noir. Both were excellent. A good value. The view from the upstairs dining room was wonderful.

   Very Good fresh seafood. One of the three best restaurants on the wharf. A good sign that a number of local regular repeat guests were dining there that night, whom the staff clearly knew. Good portions. Only farm raised Atlantic salmon since no Pacific Coast wild salmon were available. Nice fish kabab skewer. Good seafood paella but needed more saffron. Garlic bread a bit bland & dry. Fresh crisp lightly sautéed vegetables. Grilled octopus appetizer was excellent but a small portion enough for 1-2 persons. Nice selection of desserts brought to your table. Small space downstairs, more upstairs. Initial contact service was slow. Final waitress was great & attentive once assigned to us. Reasonable array of wines. House wine was decent & made by a central coast vintner. Will go again.

   My husband and I were interested in finding new neighborhood type restaurants in Carmel and Monterey. We had a delicious Caesar salad followed by incredibly tasty cioppino. Great service too.
