My guest had already arrived so wasn’t able to check in. Overall, good experience. Salad was excellent and plentiful. Thank you!
We were seated and then apparently they forgot about us, so eventually we left and had brunch elsewhere.
Overall, I have been to Cafe Caturra many times. As the time drags on, the experience gets worse and worse for me. While it used to be a very cute dining experience with the ambience, lately, it has turned into a seemingly lack of care for the patrons, speaking only for my table. The Saturday and Sunday mimosa deal at brunch(with unlimited orange juice and a $5 bottle) used to be a treat to look forward to. I have been at least 5 times. The first few times, they gave us glass champagne flutes or at least wine glasses. The second most recent time, they had to give us plastic cups with a sincere apology that they were busy so they ran out of cups. The most recent time, they were not busy, but the server just threw down the plastic cups without so much as an explanation. Next, for our table of three, it took us over an hour to receive our food, with our server never so much as looking in our direction. I saw her taking care of each of her tables, but every time she came to our table, we had to flag her down multiple times. I find this very annoying as she had to pass by the narrow walk area right next to our table to get from one of her tables to the other one on the other side of the room so for her to never stop to ask us how we were or to refill our empty glasses and orange juice is somewhat incredulous for me. Overall, I do not think I will be returning to Cafe Caturra for their service and bland food.
Service was extremely poor. We were there on a fairly busy Saturday morning with a group of six. We arrived at 11 and did not receive food until 12:20... We would not have minded waiting, however, if we hadn't had to get up multiple times to request basic things like more water, another bottle of wine for our table, etc. Additionally, in the hour plus we were waiting for food, no one ever offered bread or any sort of solution to the problem. After finally receiving and eating the food, we had to ask our server twice for the check and then eventually had to get up and find him to give him a card to pay with.
This was super out of the norm for us at Cafe Cattura but now I will definitely think twice before returning.
Food was excellent. Service was poor but I believe the waitperson was a newbie so I am cutting her some slack. Good selection of brunch items and interesting drink menu. My husband really enjoyed his bloody mary. The biscuits were delicious.
Really slow and bad service. Took 45 min to get drink order back.
Really enjoyed the Sunday brunch. Great vibe, pretty place, terrific service and solid food. The Mediterranean Skillet was tasty and the pecan pancakes were excellent. Nice spot in the Corner.
Kinda weird, maybe because it was a Valentine meal. The entire waitstaff, except for one appeared to be college kids. There were as many waiters as patrons.
The Valentine menu (only option) was the weird part. There were 2 appetizer choices, we chose the pastry/brie/apple/honey, which was very good, but also a dessert. My $6 beer came out in a small goblet, maybe 10 oz., and my wife got a margarita with some kind of smokey tequila. Awful, sent it back. The head waitress agreed that she didn't like it either.
The main course tasted fine, but was pitiful. I had lobster tail, about 6 bites with a small pile of string broccoli literally hidden under the shell. Took about 5 minutes to clean the plate. My wife had risotto with mushroom sauce that also was tasty, and it filled her plate. That was it. Risotto with mushroom sauce. The carrot cake dessert was the chef's interpretation of carrot cake, and tasted fine. $80 bucks, not impressed with food/drink, or lack thereof. Waitstaff did a nice job.
The food was good and it's a cute little place , the service was nice and staff are helpful and kind .
The staff was very friendly. A delightful young lady
Besides our rather rude waiter, the food was great and very affordable.
The service was great and the food was good. I would go again.
While the food at Caturra is good, the service in my past two experiences has been pretty bad. Plus they eliminated the 1 cent mimosa deal, so their brunch has lost a lot of its appeal.
I really enjoyed my food at Cafe Caturra, but the service was pretty terrible this time. We came to brunch for the food and 1 cent mimosas, which were both great (the Caturra mess, biscuits and gravy, and affogato were to die for). However, our waiter was horribly inattentive and I had to go far out of my way to get his attention for mimosa refills, coffee, and the dessert menu. I'm not sure if he had something against our table since we were taking advantage of the 1 cent mimosas, but whatever the reason the service was terrible. We'll definitely be back to Cafe Caturra because the brunch was great, but I'll make sure to request another waiter if we ever have him again.
Had brunch. Food was good. Service was a bit slow.
Great food and convenient location. Service attentive
We had a big group and they were very accommodating. Food was good, especially for the price!
It was refreshing.
During Homecomings weekend at UVA- a busy time when alumni and students celebrate on the corner- I made a reservation at Cafe Caturra. The service here in the past is always different. Some nights are better than others. On this particular Friday night I was first seated upstairs with a large party of parents and rambunctious children. I asked the server to be seated elsewhere and she helpfully did. But I was led outside to a dirty table in the 50 degree night. No one serviced the outside patio so I left with my party. Very disappointed.
Generally I enjoy cafe Caturra, but this brunch was not my favorite. The pecan pancakes I had were good but nothing fantastic (I loved the huevos rancheros but they're no longer on the menu), and the service was slow. I had to ask our waitress multiple times for my coffee and our food took awhile to come out.
I brought my dog and sat outside. They were very hospitable towards him and us. The food was good too!
I dined there two nights in a row! Once with my son, and once with friends. Both nights were great! Food was delicious!
Every dish we ordered was salty to the point that we could not eat it. Even the chocolate dessert was salty! The manager took only $4 off our bill which was not satisfactory.
The restaurant was closed when we arrived, even though we had made a reservation. This is the second time this has happened to me on Open Table. Not good.
Great paninis and dessert!
I ate brunch at Cafe Caturra with my husband, sister, and a few friends. The restaurant was busy, but service was good. The main problem was the food. The brunch menu was quite small--I didn't really want eggs but wanted something more like pancakes. The only option was 'Johnny Cakes' make with corn meal, so I decided to try them. For $10, out cake 4 TINY, dry corn cakes with no syrup. Other people ordered something made with eggs which was equally small. This was supposed to be brunch, and we all left feeling dissatisfied. Their menu and portion sizes could really use some help. That said, the restaurant is cute and it's probably a fun place for drinks, but I wouldn't go there just for the food.
My husband and I came here for an early Valentine's Day celebration. We had been here once before for drinks at the bar and thought it would be fun to come back to for dinner. My one disappointment was that they didn't have their wonderful sounding Valentine's menu on Saturday, the night before Valentine's, as most other restaurants did. I had the crab cakes and they were alright but not great by any means and the salad that came with them had very little dressing or taste. I ordered the potatoes and asparagus as an additional side and they were good. My husband had the steak and it was very nice. Our server was wonderful! She was sweet and attentive and we totally enjoyed her. We will definitely go back again, but next time we will try some of the gorgeous paninis that we saw coming out!! The ambiance is wonderful too.
Delicious salad and soup lunch. First time here, will definitely come back again.
The food was great and prepared in a timely manner. My girlfriend and I are looking forward to coming again.
Such a happy place and experience! Love taking our guests here for brunch at the end of the weekend! Always a great place to end their trip on a happy note. Thank you!
Upbeat ambiance. Varied menu. Not too expensive. Reliable, friendly service. If you're looking for a quiet spot, this definitely isn't it. Music wasn't obtrusive but the acoustics amplified table conversations.
The only disappointment was dessert. The brownie was stale. Hard as a rock.
I've been really excited to try Cafe Caturra ever since they moved to this location. I had a reservation, which, as it turned out, was probably unnecessary. That being said, service was incredibly slow. Refills on water and soda had to be asked for multiple times and were then forgotten for long periods. Our table would have ordered more appetizers if it hadn't taken so long to get a waiter and receive the first batch. I found the crostinis dry ans unexciting and the guacamole processed so much as to have no texture. Other people at my table enjoyed it, however, so it's more of a texture preference on my part. There were several items on the menu that sounded good but that I couldn't decide between. I ultimately abandoned all of them for the Italian panini because the waiter said it was awesome. The description of the sandwich said it included prosciutto, or some similar charcuterie style meat. What I received, however, was a dry, ham sandwich. It might have been capricola ham or something, but in that case, I wish it'd had mustard and slaw to make it more palatable. My table shared an order of the mac and cheese. I'm not a huge fan of gorgonzola on macaroni and cheese but this was admittedly cheesey and the gorgonzola was kept to a tasteful, not overwhelming, level. Overall, I walked away disappointed. I would say that I will try Cafe Caturra again the future, order different things and hopefully enjoy my meal this time, but with so many great restaurants in the area, I don't forsee myself returning here.
