Join us on Bastille Day, Wednesday July 14th for a celebration with music, drinks and French and Spanish food!
As of 2020 we have merged our two restaurants Café Bastille and B44 and are serving both menus off of our 44 Belden Lane location.
We are now open for indoor and outdoor dining at full capacity.
Our outdoor patio is covered and heated but if you choose to dine outdoors make sure to bring warm clothes since SF weather can be unpredictable.

Reservations are made via Open Table or over the phone and walk-ins are also welcome.
When you make a reservation you will be given the choice to reserve a table outdoors or standard which means indoors.

This may be more about B44 than Bastille, since they're now one restaurant and the bad menu items were from B44. The mussels from the Bastille menu were perfectly prepared and delicious, and the patatas bravas and gambas al ajillo (shrimp) were terrible. The shrimp were really overcooked though well-seasoned, and the potatoes were desiccated and seemed to be from yesterday. Saving grace? Exceptional service from both the server and the backwaiter/busser. They garnered a big tip, which made a bad meal more expensive...but that wasn't their fault.
Cassoulet beans were stale, sausage without taste and chicken overcooked.
Great service abut disappointing food
We were surprised to learn that the restaurant is now sharing the space with the Spanish restaurant space two doors down--perfectly understandable given the Covid difficulties--however, it would have been nice to have known this at the time our reservation was made. The food quality has seriously diminished since my last time at the restaurant. Hoping they can reopen in the original location and improve quality of food soon.
Three of us for lunch; duck confit cassoulet, croque monsieur and mushroom fettucine. Yum. Oh, and a Manhattan, Bloody Mary and water. Love French food!
Cafe Bastille and B44 are currently sharing the same space on Belden Lane--so--you get two for one! Each side of the menu is respectively the restaurant you know so well. Sat outside--nearest the walkway is very well ventilated indeed but bring your jackets; nearer the wall is warmer and has good heaters and more wind protection. Food was excellent; service was done with a smile and efficient.
great festive place to eat outside! consistently good over the years.
Loved the location of the cafe. It is definitely vibing a french energy upon arriving. The menu is quite modest and easy to navigate. I picked a french bordeaux to start my journey and it was delicious. My daughter and I shared a tapa board with a salad. We loved the flavors and different cheeses we explored. Overall, we felt very satisfied with the restaurant, food and staff.
As always great food, drinks and service here. We keep coming back and love the staff. Super friendly and helpful. Thanks again
Decent food, friendly server, very relaxed dining experience.
We took advantage of SF Restaurant Week to try the prix fixe menu. The food was really tasty, especially the desserts.
First visit in many years (since I have retired and no longer work in the neighborhood). Very impressive "tent" surrounding the outdoor space! Restaurant week menu was superb!
B44 and Cafe Bastille have combined spaces for the moment. There is a sign in the Cafe Bastille door directing you to B44.
One of the most delicious meals I have ever eaten. Good deal for SF Restaurant Week but will come again any time. The pork tenderloin was tender and the sauce was amazing. Also experienced the pan seared Branzino with spinach. Perfectly prepared and a large portion of the fish. The choc ganache cake and the lemon mascarpone were good sized portions. I would definitely get the lemon cake again. Our waiter could not have been more pleasant. He was busy with a large group of 12 and other tables but was always attentive and made great suggestions on drinks. I can’t wait to visit again.
I really enjoyed my restaurant week meal at Cafe Bastille. The service was attentive and friendly. I had a salmon tartar appetizer (delicious), pork tenderloin over mash (very rich. tasty.), and a chocolate cake (very good. I think I may have enjoyed it most of all.). I would definitely recommend this restaurant, although the meal itself didn't scream French cuisine.
We had Escargot, pork chop, and fish. The food were well presented and delicious. Our waiter, Reno, was very attentive and efficient. We really had a wonderful lunch. We will go back again.
Friendly service, delicious food, and ambiance.
I would rather not review a dining experience than provide a somewhat negative review, but I must. When we arrived at the restaurant, it was closed, with signs advising that we were to check in at B44, a Spanish restaurant two doors down. At B44, we were told they opened in 10 minutes. We tried to explain that we were actually Bastille patrons but were waved off. We stood around and got to talking to two lovely ladies who were also waiting for a „Bastille“ table. There was no explanation why we had to wait at a Spanish restaurant and then be seated in that restaurant, except one of the two ladies had told us both restaurants were under the same ownership. We were given both Bastille and B44 menus, and my choice of wine was actually a Spanish one; a good choice!
My dining companion‘s pasta dish was very much to her liking, and my choice of rabbit in mustard-creme sauce was tasty; no complaints on the flavor. Visually, however, the dish was an unappetizing hot mess, with an excess amount of sauce poured all over everything, making meat, carrots, pearl onions and roasted potatoes undistinguishable. It was a decidedly unenjoyable meal, even though our server was very nice and friendly. It must be said that guests at other tables seemed to have a nice time. I know we must make allowances during these trying times, but no, will not try again.
My pataxran Manhattan probably made everything else great...the mussels, the steak frites, the chocolate ganache cake!!! Everything was SO Delicous. I can't wait to go back.
A weekday “hen” lunch party, we had a table outdoors. Excellent ventilation (although Mother Nature provided a brisk breeze through the alleyway, so COVID worries). Attentive service; great menu because you can order from Cafe Bastille or B44. No pressure to rush through eating. We didn’t have dessert, but their coffee is superb.
Food was not authentically French. I know….I’ve lived in France for years
When you arrive, the location is in the middle of the block where B44 was/is located. The tented area is heated but depending on the weather, it can still be rather cold.
The service was quite attentive. The food was excellent. We will be back soon!
Excellent food and menu. Too bad to accompany a rich Quiche Lorraine with some pre-cooked packaged potatoes that I can buy in a market.
The first impression is what counts ...
First timer! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Great menu selection between French and Spanish dishes. Caesar Salad with FRESH anchovies.Paella was superb.
Will return for sure
Authentic French food. Good value. Safe choice during Delta phase of pandemic.
Everything we ordered was unbelievabley delicious.
Prompt, courteous, and considerate servers! The food was delicious.
Had dinner with a friend and it was truly enjoyable. Staff are super welcoming and supportive. Ambient is pretty chill and comfortable. Definitely coming back and recommend y'all to stop by.
We liked it so much we went twice in our four night stay.
Really great place, have been going here for years. Great service!
This restaurant was a delightful find. An excellent French venue with a full-on menu. Outdoor seating was a must for us and there was plenty of it. Service was very good, the food delicious. Will return on our next visit to San Francisco
Outstanding service. We ate outside due to Covid. It was a little breezy but comfortable. Food was delicious and fresh.
Service was very friendly and accommodating.
Good traditional French bistro food. Pleasant atmosphere, but the restaurant is a bit shabby. Great wait staff.
Great place for lunch and dinner, with our favorite choices for entrees and accompaniments. Wine choice was also great, and the bill was reasonable for value delivered.
I have been going to this place for years. It's great. Highly recommend it for food, service, and a good outdoor dining experience!
Spacious outside eating area. Excellent service, good food, and reasonably priced.
Was nice to come back to an old friend, it has moved down the street for a larger outside service space. Since it is sharing kitchen, you can now get tapas as well as the wonderful French bistro food. We had the churros in chocolate sauce for dessert - excellent. Still the same great cocktails and most of the menu, though I did miss the boudin noir. Very nice weeknight dinner.
Excellent menuS (...choose from both the Cafe Bastille or “44” (Catalan) menus. Jean was an exceptional waiter. Outside dining for lunch was a real pleasure. The brussel sprouts and mussels were big hits...as was the dessert: crema catalana.
I took a dear friend out for her birthday on Bastille Day. The restaurant was able to accommodate us a before our actual reservation. The host and waitress were so nice. Food was delicious. She even got a bday sparkler w/ her dessert. And My date was even able to sing La Vie en Rose. The crowd also joined in. Overall a beautiful evening at Cafe Bastille.
