Ca' Dario Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
Quaint spot located in the heart of Santa Barbara. Menu is not large or overwhelming but covers a majority of Italian dishes, enough to satisfy all dinner possibilities. All of our menu choices were winners from the clams & pasta, to the fish, to the ravioli. Their wine list is top notch, their desserts tempting and scrumptious! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant to others who are heading to Santa Barbara. On another note, it can get noisy once all the tables are full, which I guess is a good thing.
Always busy here but also ALWAYS worth the little extra bit of wait time for a table because the food is excellent!!! Employees and servers are attentive and friendly. Highly recommend CaDario for a great dinner experience! -Aaron (Goleta)
We went here for Thanksgiving dinner. Although a traditional turkey dinner was on the menu, we chose from their well-rounded Italian fare. The restaurant was quite full but not too noisy. Excellent service and, as always, superior food. This place really does have a very competent menu and service...we will return again soon.
I have eaten at this restaurant at least 15 times over the years, so I like it. My experience on Saturday, November 18th was not good. My companion and I had 7:00 reservations but we had to stand outside and wait for at least 40 minutes. The hostess came out twice and apologized for the delay. Meanwhile, a party of four with 7:30 reservations was promptly seated, after one in that party spoke with the hostess. You be the judge...
Good food but we were seated 45 minutes after our reservation! The place was crowded and seemed very under-staffed. The hostess was frantic trying to get tables paid/wrapped up, re-set, and then filled with people waiting (a lot with reservations). Quick service when we sat down but made for a very hectic dining experience.
We were really looking forward to our dinner at Ca'Dario but were terribly disappointed! We had a reservation but had to wait an hour to get a table. They served us stale bread and when I mentioned it, the waiter brought ice cold sliced store bought bread because they ran out. The waiter recommended a bottle of Chianti and I asked if it was a Classico Reserva. "Of course!" he said but it wasn't. My friend's steak was excellent but my mushy pasta looked and tasted like it was reheated and not fresh. Last year I had the same pasta and it was amazing...such a disappointment. So the Hostess did offer us an appetizer and dessert and the "puffed" pastry was so tough I couldn't cut it with my fork. Ca'Dario was our go to place for special occassions but never again. What happened??????
On a recent visit to Santa Barbara, we walked by this restaurant when it was empty in the morning. It looked very much like the type of small trattoria you see all over Italy -- so we took a look at the menu, which also seemed true to it's Italian heritage. Selections are classics that you'll recognize... no fusion-foods here! Since everything looked right with this place, we took a look at the many dining reviews online... also mostly excellent... so we made a dinner reservation for that same evening. As mentioned elsewhere... make a reservation, or you'll have a long wait. The place was bursting at the seems when we arrived for a 7 PM reso, and we were escorted to the stand-up bar for about a 10 minute wait.
We stayed mainstream on the menu, ordering a couple of dishes the house is known for: RAVIOLI AL BURRO E SALVIA, and TAGLIATELLE VERDI ALLA BOLOGNESE. Both were outstanding! Service was attentive, but not intrusive. Place is small, with small tables pushed close together... so very Euro -- if you like that sort of thing. Price tag for 2 pasta dishes, 2 cocktails and 2 glasses of marginal red wine came to $115, including a 20% gratuity. The overall value for the money spent is good, but not great -- but I've certainly spent more for less at other purportedly fine dining establishments. At the end of the day, it is mostly about the food... which is excellent! We would definitely go back!
We shared the grilled cuttlefish, which was nicely smoky and very tender. I had the osso buco on saffron risotto. Both were prepared perfectly and delicious. My wife had the salmon/pasta dish and was a bit disappointed, as she expected a salmon filet on top of the pasta, but the dish is small pieces of salmon distributed throughout the pasta. The salmon was smoky and delicious. Overall, we had a very pleasant meal.
First time and the food was phenomenal! Must return to try other menu items. For a Sat night, go early and make reservations. Half way through our meal there were many people standing and waiting around the tables. It might be good to get a table in the other room.
Excellent food & authentic feel, Ca Dario is very much a good choice for an evening out. The tables are a bit tightly spaced but the acoustics work out so it is possible to have an intimate conversation despite the proximity to the adjacent tables. The wait staff was a bit pressed due to the volume of patrons through prime-time so the repartee was minimal with the waitress but she was courteous and fine. All in all great food and quality, if perhaps a bit conservative, vibe.
