Byrd and Baldwin Bros. Steakhouse
All good, service, wine, but lobster was not fresh.
Unfortunately, we showed up during a shift change I suppose. We sat downstairs and I was drawn to the safe. I’m a history nerd so I simply to check out this restaurant from its historical standpoint. The people at the front greeted us properly and took our jackets. The service stopped there. The young lady who was our waitress and took our appetizers never showed up again. The bartender I guess had no idea she was covering the table so we went a good forty five minutes without water/beverages. The seafood Mac and cheese was great. I asked the steak be prepared medium and it was red throughout. Again, not a big deal if someone came back and addressed the table. I would have simply asked for someone to put it on the grill for five more minutes and call it a day. Kinda disappointing considering every steak restaurant you go to of this caliber usually delivers the steak and asks you up front. I don’t know, maybe we caught them on an off night. :(
Good beast, well prepared. Nice bar in the basement. Table staff a little precious but fine. Good steak albeit at NY prices
We had a wonderful experience at the restaurant. Our waiter, Jason, was excellent and made great recommendations for my wife's meal He was spot on. I would definitely return with Jason as our waiter.
Byrd and Baldwin is in a beautifully designed building. It was nice to have the valet right at the door so there was no need to search for parking or walk in the bad weather. The staff was friendly and the service was super. The food was delicious. There was an adequate amount of choices available to pick from on the menu. The waiter also reviewed some daily specials. The portions were ample. I was too full to have dessert but my husband did have a dessert special a lavender/honey cheesecake. I had a small taste and it was scrumptious. We will go back again some time.
Excellent service food and service Ambiance was the best I experienced at a restaurant. We will go back.
Byrd and Baldwin is hands down the finest restaurant in Hampton Roads, no need to add anything to that.
We have grown accustomed to exceptional service at Byrd & Baldwin. Unfortunately, we did not experience that this evening. There were abnormally long delays between courses and a sense that we were being ignored. The food was also not up to the high standards of previous visits. The soup was lukewarm and (at least) one of the entrees was overcooked. As we departed, there was no one available to retrieve our checked coats.
It was amazing food and the atmosphere was perfect!! It’s a whole experience
Valet, service, and meal were absolutely amazing! This was truly a 5-star experience. We shared a shrimp cocktail for an appetizer, which was perfectly paired to our wine. For dinner, my date ordered the Duck Two Ways and I had the Veal Chop.
Fantastic ambiance and wait staff service. Would recommend again!
This is a nice elegant restaurant and has a wonderful atmosphere! Delicious food and drinks! Would recommend highly for anniversaries or special occasions!
Was great! Unfortunately the veal was just a big chunk of fat and the cauliflower gratin was watery. Everything else was delish! First place: cheesecake (plain with whipped cream). Second place: crab bisque. Third place: oysters Rockefeller
From where we were seated to adding a take home dessert to our ticket our experience was excellent!
Superior dining experience
As always amazing!!!
I went on a recent trip to Norfolk and was joined by friends as we celebrated the holidays and each other’s company.
We had a wonderful time. The food was among the best I’ve ever had, the service was attentive and also allowed us to breathe.
The mood was warm and inviting throughout the night and you feel like you’re coming home to a cozy environment.
Steak was unbelievably salty to the point of not being able to eat. Asked to box up rather than complain with guests present. Vegetables were cold and no where close to representing such.
Here I ate the best steak of my life (6 oz filet, medium rare) - no joke. The service was great and the atmosphere was perfect: refined but not stuffy and crowded. I can’t wait for another special occasion to go back.
If only I could rate them above 5. This place exceeds it! The entire experience was wonderful! We started with cocktails in the bar...dark and cozy...the food and wine were delicious...from
soup thru dessert...but above all, the service was stellar! Alex, our server was on point, not fussy, always available. The entire staff was a well oiled machine. The manager should be proud.
Superb service in an elegant setting. Thank you to the staff for making our visit such an enjoyable one !!
My third time and always a good moment shared around excellent food. thanks
This stately venue is simply refreshing each and EVERYTIME we visit. The downstairs bar is the best. The steak selections are premier cuts and quality. The valet service is very welcomed and utilized.
Lisa, our server, was very attentive and our burgers were the best!
Exceptional service by Emanuel. Amazing food. Great time with good friends.
Excellent food, cocktails, wine list & service. A beautiful venue as well. Definitely worth visiting!
This is my absolutely favorite restaurant in Norfolk. Their cocktail and wine menu are superb. The same can be said of their main menu, which occasionally changes to reflect what is local, in season.
Extremely disappointed with our first visit to Byrd and Baldwin. We arrived for our reservation and were seated promptly. Ordered drinks and waited 15-20 minutes for them to arrive. But we had water and butter!
My husband asked for a cocktail and the waiter told him it was a "girly" drink. Not that his opinion was asked. The She Crab soup was extremely salty. The crab itself was plentiful, but the salt masked all other flavors. The filet was cooked perfect, but again a bit salty. The MR strip was tough and dry. The MR ribeye was dry with lots of gristle. It was not to the quality expected at a highly rated steakhouse.
The side lobster mac and cheese & the brussels sprouts were delicious. Our waters were refilled frequently which was especially appreciated since our bar beverages took forever each time. Based on the reviews from other diners, we expected a much better quality of steak and service. We will not return.
Great food and service definitely one of our favorite restaurants in the Hampton Roads area.
Best steak. Harris Ran h natural. From California east side of sierras outstanding.
This was my first time dining at the establishment. I must admit i was quite impressed with everything as a whole. The only thing I didn’t like was when my food arrived the broccoli was cold.
We have been looking for a truly fine dining restaurant. Although they are fine dining the staff had a very friendly and welcoming attitude, something that is frequently missed in other restaurants.
Prior to our meal we were invited in the back for a wine tasting and at the end of the meal a tour of the cellar. John Paul was very friendly and knowledgable.
Byrd and Baldwin is a great place for a quiet date night or a business dinner. Restaurant is very attractive , noise level moderate, service is impeccable, cocktails very good and decent wine list with surprisingly reasonable values for a steakhouse.
Where it falls down is the food- although attractively plated and brought in a time manner, my spinach salad was overdressed, portion sizes too large for apps , and most surprisingly the cuts and quality of the meat left a great deal to be desired. A ribeye steak just should not be 3/4 of an inch thick and a little tough.
Its a steakhouse- serve some big juicy cuts- if you need to raise the prices 5$ because of meat costs do it - very fine restaurant, the food should be the piece de resistance
Great service. Food pricey for quality. The best ever shea crab soup.
Amazing food and service! We ordered the steak, oysters, and ahi tuna and loved them all. 10/10 will return
Our table had a view of the kitchen area which took away a romantic night at dinner.
Perfect as always. It’s my favorite restaurant in Norfolk. It never disappoints.
Excellent place. Steaks were amazing. The manager took us on a tour of the wine cellar, it was a really nice addition to a wonderful birthday dinner.
Exceptional -Beautiful-Reasonable Steakhouse in the heart of Norfolk. I recommend it to everyone.
Alex is literally the ONLY reason PERIOD! Superb service!
Probably the best dining experience my wife & I have enjoyed in years. The waiter was on point and very attentive. Checking on us approximately every 10min. Then at the end of our meal we were invited to tour their huge wine cellar which was a really nice touch to end dinner. Next time I visit Norfolk. I’ll definitely dine here.
