Butera's Restaurant of Sayville Ratings and Reviews
We love your restaurant. However this experience was not what we expected. We made a reservation for 6:15 and still waited over an hour for our table. We were served a round of drinks which we did appreciate. The service people were untrained. Examples: removed food that wasn't finished or left plates and glasses that were long done. Forgot bread and water, we had to keep asking...there was clearly no communication or teamwork among the servers. They were simply not well trained staff. Hope this helps as we do love your food.
We were disappointed by the dining room no tablecloths on tables. For family style very small portions. One of our dinners came out wrong you would of thought that they would of bought us a glass of wine for the inconvenience. We spent 130$ and we will not be back.
Made reservations and still had to wait about a half hour before being seated. The waiter was not very knowledgeable about any of their cocktails. The waiter didnt come back to refill our drinks for about 45 minutes. We were planning on having a number of drinks with dinner that evening but due to the amount of time it was taking for us to get our waiter to come back over we only had two drinks. The restaurant itself has the feel that you are in someones cramped basement. The tables are awkwardly placed all over the room in a cluttered manner and are way too small. The food was ok but definitely not worth the amount of time we wasted waiting. Needless to say, we will never be going back there again. Thumbs down.
We arrived for 7:15 reservations and were seated 5 minutes after We arrived. When we were seated, we were waiting about 10 minutes and requested water and bread. The water came over pretty quickly but the bread took another 20 minutes. It was rather busy, but it still took about 15 minutes for our waiter to come over to our table to get our order. After we place the order, the food started to come out relatively quickly. I could tell that our waiter was rather harried, but considering we were coming in for Restaurant Week it didn't surprise me that they were busy. The only issue I had is that we picked this restaurant based on restaurant week and we were informed that the promotion was over at 7 p.m. and our reservations were for 7:15 pm. I believe somebody could have come over after we questioned about the promotion and honored The promotion. The food was good and was reasonably priced.
Jerry the Manager was terrific He was a fanastic host He came to the table several times to be sure everything was perfect He could have not been more caring or kind Every resturant in NewYork should take lessons from Jerry in being the consummate professional
Friends that moved away and hadn't been back 30+ years came to visit. Had seen them in 10 years and had a great time at Butera's. Food was excellent and they let us enjoy the evening withou rushing us too leave like most restaurants do on Saturday night. Have had dinner her many times and never leave without wanting to return A+
How they manage to produce such quality in family-size portions is beyond me. Their tilapia oreganata is only eclipsed by their rigatoni bolognese. I've been so impressed that they are catering my holiday party this year. I know my guests will be equally as pleased.
I have come here a few times and the only reason I keep coming back is because of the food. The service is very slow even when the restaurant is not busy. I have experience in the restaurant industry and for a waitor or waitress not to come back after the meals are dropped to ask if everything is okay is conpletely unacceptable. Very disappointed with service in restaurant, excellent food and excellent service in the bar.
We most recently dined here on Saturday night. We were a party of 7 people, with an 8 PM reservation. As of 8:57, we were still waiting on our table. Our party consisted of 5 adults and 2 children (a 5 year old and baby). My niece was starving and exhausted, and luckily my son slept through most of the wait, but we should have been home long before he woke up. We asked the hostesses multiple times about the status of our table, and kept getting answers that this table is almost done, and that table is almost done. They knew full well that we had 2 kids with us. We weren't the only group that they did this to however. Another group had a 7:30 reservation and was seated at 8:23. Two other groups had 8 PM reservations and were seated around the same time as us. If you cannot accommodate people, please do not take so many reservations. It truly is unfair to your loyal, paying customers.
Once we were seated, our waiter was very friendly. He brought out my niece's kids meal rather quickly, and for that we were quite appreciative. We did have to ask for a basket of bread multiple times. The bread and hummus were tasty as always. We started with two appetizers, Mozzarella Fritta and Calamari Fritti. Both are tasty, but heavily fried. For entrees, we shared Chicken Gorgonzola, Shrimp Parmesan, and Pan Baked Lasagna Classico. The Chicken Gorgonzola is my favorite dish at Butera's and Saturday night was no exception. My husband and I love it. The Shrimp Parmesan was also great. I'm not a huge fan of the lasagna. It's a bit too rich for my liking, but others at the table seemed to enjoy it. Our waiter was attentive with drink refills and even brought out ice cream for the birthday guys.
It truly is a shame that management feels the need to overbook and then make patrons wait for an hour to be seated. We enjoy the food here, but after that ridiculous wait, it's the last time I'll be dining here.
Upon arrival my wife and I were seated prominently. The restaurant was not crowded therefore there were an ample amount of tables. The table we were given had uneven legs, rather then move us to another table they placed a spacer under one of the legs. We had to ask for another table as that one still shook. Drink orders were taken quickly, and olive oil was brought to the table, unfortunately no bread was place on the table. The server was very friendly and helpful in choosing our dinner. When dinner arrived so did a fly. After making several attempts to catch it ( all of which failed ) the fly seemed to enjoy our main course more than us. It was it's last meal. When we got the attention of another server, my wife showed him our uninvited guest. He started to say there was a problem with flies in the area, at which point my wife said "that has nothing to do with the inside of your restaurant." There was no charge for the dinner, ( I think the fly ate more than us ) we left a tip and the dead fly. The unfortunate part of this, it was on 9-11, which was also our 40th wedding anniversary. If I were the owner of this or any restaurant, I think I would rather lose a day of business and take care of the problem, than loose a customer and have a review like this written. Happy anniversary!
