Stylish without being pretentious! Such a great restaurant!
I chose Butchers & Barbers because their website listed having a charcuterie on the menu. I've yet to find a quality charcuterie for a reasonable price in Los Angeles. No one has a true meat AND cheese board together at a value price. Anywhere in Paris or Rome you can stumble off the street and get amazing cheese and meats for 15-18 Euro. Nowhere in this city have I found that, anyway the only reason I choose B&B was for the food, which they no longer had.
The drinks were strong but not memorable and the food was over salted and dry.
I should have known better then to try and get good food on Hollywood Blvd.
Great spot, it's cozy so depending on the evening.. Make reservations. Menu is tiny but mighty and the craftsmanship of the bartender and his mixology of yumminess is on point. Hipster vibe, City Chic and not for tourists...
Terrible experience. Food took way too long. The bartenders weren't able to keep up.
Not running back anytime soon. The waitress was well... disinterested (for lack of a better word). Drinks took forever to arrive. The online menu was not quite the same as the physical menu. We proceeded to order our main courses. Not having been here before, we called the waitress back to find out if the portions were small and if we needed to order appetizers. Her response was "I don't know what you ordered". Huh? The food was okay. This place has potential but still needs work.
The food started off well, the appetiser (chorizo) was nice but the main (flat iron steak) was awful. Had to leave it because it was too chewy. They did kindly remove it from the bill. Considering the restaurant was relatively empty the service for food and drinks was very slow. The acoustics in the restaurant also need to to be reviewed due to the excessive reverberation. Nice place but could be largely improved.
Disappointing dinner experience. This place is dark and dingy, absurdly noisy (even the waiters were whooping it up) and poorly managed. The bartenders were trying so hard to hang out with the patrons at the bar that they were ignoring drink orders from the dining room, so it took 20 mins and a couple of reminders to get our drinks delivered. The menu is an odd assortment of small plates and the service is spotty. Unless you like really noisy dining featuring limited food choices and spotty service, choose another dining venue.
The food was exceptional especially the potato dumplings, the curried mussels and the shrimp with polenta. The ambiance was lovely in the bar area, with a guy playing a sax right outside the open window. But, the most outstanding part of the evening was the service. Our waiter (I think his name was Peter) never missed a beat - he made perfect food suggestions, helped us with wine and was extremely attentive. Butchers and Barbers knocked it out of the park on all fronts!
Definitely sit in the bar area dining. Much more connected than the front dining area. Bartenders were great. Chilled my Martini with Liquid Nitrogen. Food was well portioned and flavorful. Just a cool buzz of locals. Wait staff was attentive but not pushy. Will definitely take guests there again.
We went when the venue first opened. It was great then. It was even better several months later - that is always a surprise. When eateries and tragically hip, as this one is, I always wonder how sustainable. Butchers and Barbers far exceeded our expectations both time. It's not just tragically hip, it's amazingly good food and drink. 1, 2, 3 go!
Wasn't a big fan. They tried too hard on the drinks (can't I just get a kettle and tonic?), the service was indifferent and the food was mediocre (at best).
I arrived at Butchers and Barbers around 7:50, as I had a reservation set for 8PM on Valentines Day. I did not want to be late as I know how it can be one of the busiest nights of the year. They told me my table was not ready yet, and asked me to take a seat at the bar. I ordered a Barbers Gin and Tonic which was amazing. Unfortunately I was at the bar for 35 minutes, and was not seated until almost 8:30. I was sat at a table that was not in the main room but in the outer room. The waiter sometimes would not come around for long periods of time, he seemed more interested in speaking with the other waitress working that night. The food was pretty good. The Salad, Chicken and Oysters were all delicious. The Cuterie and cheese plate was not for me. It was my first Valentines day with a new girlfriend and it wasn't the best experience. Still, I would go for drinks before heading out somewhere else, but I would never go there again on a special occasion.
We arrived just as they were opening on Saturday. At first it was pretty quiet, but it filled up quickly. I love the vintage decor and ambiance of the restaurant. Once you're inside, it's easy to forget you're right on bustling Hollywood Blvd. We started with cocktails which were amazing! They have a great variety, so it's easy to find something you'll like. I had the Clara Bow and my boyfriend had The Gamekeeper. Appetizers were delicious. The oysters on the half shell were fresh and meaty. The dates and ricotta were just the right combination of sweet and creamy. My boyfriend loved the flat iron steak that he had for his main course. I had the salmon special, which had a nice crust and very flavorful parsnips on the side. My only negative of the place was that though the music was good, it was a bit loud especially when more people arrived. There were a few times when we couldn't hear each other talking as we sat across the table from each other. But overall, it was a great meal in a place with a fun atmosphere. I would definitely recommend it for a nice meal or even just out for drinks.
I like this place bc it's close to where I live. The decor and scene is hip and cool. The drinks are great, but they got to work on their wine list. We wanted to buy a bottle and our options were a $50 and then all the way to $100. Nothing in between.
This is right around the corner from No Vacancy on Hollywood Blvd. It's a cool spot. The decor is very hip, vintage, kind of New York-y. Our drinks were perfection. My date had some smokey unique drink that he loved. We ordered oysters and deviled eggs for starters (both were outstanding). I had the salmon (delish) and my date has steak (good but a little chewy). Overall it was fantastic. I recommend this place for an intimate date or chill spot with friends. There's also some bars right around the corner to hit up when this place closes to keep things going (I believe they closed at 11)
Califlower and a burger and you are in paradise. The salmon was creamy and some of the best ever. Valet parking do no issue with Hollywood traffic.
Days later we still can't stop talking about the food! We tried one of each section on the menu and both house cocktails. EVERYTHING was great. Highly recommend!
Made it here only by chance from looking at close restaurants on Yelp and Open Table. We were thrilled. Amazing food and cocktails. Will be sure to return here next time we are in Hollywood!
the menu was trying a bit too hard. The drink menu was creative, and the food was good, but I don't think I would go back given the price point.
The place is cool, and has a young, buzzy vibe. The food is really very good. The best mussels I've had in ages; tender, luscious pork belly in a smoky dashi broth; a very good ribeye. All wonderful. Plus very nice service, and a kitchen that gets the food out fast and hot. The only drawback is that we were shouting all night.
Great food, excellent wine list and cocktails. Daniel was the epitome of service! Anticipated all of our needs, was knowledgable about the food and had a great personality. Loved our experience at Butchers And Barbers! The in house dry aged steak is incredible.
The menu is limited. They use a soft drinks gun to mix tonic in the cocktails which is awful for a place of this price range! Service is great and good atmosphere!
Alex, Avery, and the entire staff provided superb service! Would definitely recommend it to everyone and will come back soon!
Service was excellent! Drinks were ok... my Manhattan was a bit high on the vermouth. Food was good yet unimpressive (too much oil and salt). Fun location! If you like dark beer and ice cream I suggest you get that from the desert menu. Was a fun try but not going back.
Good service, great wine. Really good food though a bit too much oil used. Oysters were very good and properly chilled.
The atmosphere is great. It's definitely a cool bar scene. The food was okay. The appetizer was great, but the entrees were overpriced for the size and taste. There really aren't any shareable plates.
Love this restaurant, and the staff is the absolute best. This was our second time here, and expect to dine many more times.
Second time at Butchers & Barbers and was not disappointed! The charcuterie platter is so good and the service was amazing! It was my friend's birthday and when they didn't have a candles to put in her dessert (probably a silly request on our part but some traditions die hard!), they brought out a couple glasses of sparking wine instead - so unnecessary and so so nice! The food isn't necessarily the most creative compared to other places in the area, but it's definitely tasty and the great drinks and fun atmosphere more than make up for it. Thanks for a great time! We'll be back!
This was a great little find in Hollywood. The menu is a mix of comfort food and innovative foodie items. Things we loved, the popcorn, ribs (amazing!), bone marrow (not usually a fan but it was amazing), tomato salad, cauliflower (amazing!), chicken wings. The corn pudding w/bread was OK and the trout was too fishy for me but others liked it. The serious mis-step in my mind was the server and bartender slipping cheap alcohol in their signature drinks. They have a crazy interesting specialty drink menu that calls out specific types of alcohol. Our waiter explained each one but when we ordered them I watched the bartender pour the well gin in what should have been a unique special type of Bombay Sapphire with spices. When I pointed this out to the waiter he just said "oh yes we are out of that specialty gin and the well gin (Beefeater) is the same". When I pointed out that we were paying double the price for a specialty drink he actually argued with me about how it doesn't matter - but he was the one to explain why the spiced gin was so special. So when you say you use Wagu beef is it really from Costco?
The hostess at B&B was extremely kind and gracious. Sadly, she was the only helpful employee we encountered.
Service aside, the drinks and food itself were fantastic. We wanted to order more, but our server went extremely long periods of time without returning to the table. Food took a while to come out, but everything was extremely tasty. There are seven of us and all seemed pleased with the food.
My suggestion: sit at the bar.
A group of us went for Dine Out LA and had their Prix Fixed Menu. The first and second course were excellent! The cauliflower, popcorn, corn on the cob, and the buratta something were really excellent. However, none of us really liked our main course, the spicy fried chicken was way too spicy to really enjoy and the risotto didn't taste like anything and was under cooked. The alcoholic drinks were creative and great! I would go back though and give them another try with their regular menu. Wonderful ambiance, and the service is excellent.
One of the most delicious hamburgers I've ever had at a restaurant. The fried chicken was amazing. The cauliflower was incredible. Even the popcorn to start the meal was fantastic. Our cocktail was superb. Nothing but excellent things to say about the food and drink.
came here for dine LA experience. seated by the bar. a little noisy but that's expected of busy night.
the menu had great selections. anything with burratta is a good choice. will check back in a few months to see if they can keep up.
We'd gone there for Dine LA week, which meant a prix fixe menu. No prob. The waiter was friendly and attentive. The ambience was fun, interesting and I'm sure got better as the evening dimmed. Sadly the actual food was just atrocious. Flavor-wise the most adventurous dish was the Rosemary popcorn we were served first. Everything was slowly downhill from there. The cocktail menu had some nice items, albeit $15 nice items that, had this restaurant been one block to the south, would have been a much more reasonable $11. Bland risotto. Pork belly that was much closer to a slab of unwanted pig fat than what I've come to expect from pork belly. And a chocolate desert that really would have been a treat in a school lunch program for disadvantaged youths.
I hate not having enjoyed my time at B&B. But clearly quality of food was the last thing on their minds.
Great space. Salty food and service.
So good. Best burgers, amazing drinks, great decor. GO!
You arrive at this place and the first impression is very good. After, it goes bad to worse. We were sitting on a table where the AC was right on us at a very cold grade. We asked many times to the staff to adjust the air, and a pretentious manager arrived whit an attitude and told us that he will not cut the air to make us feel better to the detriment of the restaurant... even if was 68 degree outside...
Bad explanation for the menu. She told us that it's a place where we share. But it's not, other than the charcuterie. How do you share a burger? A salmon? It's like sharing a Cherry Blossom...
Lots of great small plates that are perfect for sharing. Every dish was great. Mussels had very flavorful broth. Califlower made eating veggies fun.
Wonderful time at a loud hot spot. The waitress was attentive.
