About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Fancy
  • Romantic
Butcher & Singer, in the amazing historic location of 1500 Walnut, is an intimate and sophisticated dining experience in a relaxed clubhouse setting. We brought back the true classics from perfect Manhattans and Sidecars to hand-cut steaks and chops, and freshly caught fish. Timeless and fun for all in the continued age of the American chophouse.

Great service; servers were knowledgeable and attentive. There was no rush to turn the table and food was perfect in every way.

This was our second visit to Butcher and Singer. It did not disappoint. We ordered surf and turf. the lobster was succulent as well as the filet. The biscuits are absolutely beyond compare. For dessert we had the lemon ice box pie which is a must. We requested Brandy as our server. She is professional and personable. Everything is top notch from the atmosphere to the food to the service. The noise level is on the upper end of energetic.

The service has really fallen off. We didn’t receive our bread until we’d asked (we were sitting for half an hour with just water). Then our entire dinner came out at once: the sides were steaming and delicious but the filet was room temperature- obviously sitting around. We were forced to return it. They did not prepare a new steak but reheated the one we’d received. Not how it should be done, not how it would have been done in the past. Our server was not attentive, flitting by to many different stations, it was hard to get her attention. Perhaps the place is understaffed. We didn’t stay for dessert. A disappointing experience at a usual favorite.

Had an amazing dinner celebrating our son’s college graduation. Could not have had a more perfect experience.

Best steak around. Everything from cocktails to biscuits to sharable sides was spectacular. Service was amazing even on a busy Friday night.

We decided to try someplace new for our anniversary and the food and service were just OK. For the price point I expected more. The drinks were very good and the baked Alaska was the best thing. Food arrived lukewarm not cold but definitely not hot. My drink glass sat empty for at least 5 minutes before being asked if I wanted another. Bread one roll per person that's it you have to ask for additional ones. For the money I would skip. We are going back to our usual spot. Sadly I was expecting so much more.

One of the best meals I’ve had in a while! The service, drinks, food, and ambience were all amazing. Travis, one of the hosts, was so friendly as well! Highly recommend.

Just an overall fabulous experience. Finally, a restaurant that offers a sophisticated experience and actually delivers on it. The bartender and waiters are extremely adept and seem to really enjoy their crafts. The ambiance is fantastic. Low-lighting, glamour-from-days-gone by vibe. The food is simply delicious. So well-crafted. Creative. Flavorful. Great range of pricing. Just a fantastic experience!! Run, don't walk - IF you can snag a reservation! :-)
