Our waitress Michelle was very attentive and Dylan was always there to pick up our plates and add water to our glasses. Both had funny and lively personalities.
The food was delicious and the atmosphere was impossible to beat. The tikki torches and the local artist blowing the conch shell made this dinner experience a 5 star plus.
Wonderful service, food was outstanding, sunset was beautiful. Live music couldn’t have been any better. Loved every moment, would recommend this place for sure!
Incredible gourmet food! Beautiful ambiance. 100% would recommend
Beautiful beach location, but otherwise underwhelmed by dinner. Server was very slow getting our drink order (15 to 20 min), then failed to tell us any of the specials or daily catch prior to asking for our food order. Finally got that done and ordered a bottle of wine for dinner. Wine did not appear until after our salads/appetizers were done. Server poured a glass as our entrees arrived then disappeared with our bottle of wine for 20 minutes. Upon returning, they asked us if we wanted another bottle of wine, and we had to remind them they took well over half of our bottle away somewhere. 10 to 15 minutes later they reappeared with the remainder of our bottle of wine, well after our entrees were done.
With respect to food, both of us were disappointed in our meals. The Big Eye tuna was okay but not nearly as good as most ahi dishes we had elsewhere during our stay in Hawaii, and the vegetables that accompanied it were barely cooked and extremely bland. My wife's dish (the daily catch) was sub par, and in her case, the veggies that accompanied the meal were overcooked and unrecognizable.
All around, on off night for the restaurant. If you want a similar, but better, beach side dining experience, try Napua's about a mile and a half away. Our experience was far better.
nice location and great service and food was great
An amazing night!! We made our reservation for before sunset so we could enjoy the beautiful view. The food was wonderful and the staff was attentive. Highly recommend
My girlfriend and I just got married and we were celebrating our honeymoon. We were staying in Hapuna Beach and decided to try Brown's in the Fairmont. When we called the Fairmont, the individual we spoke with was a jerk. Told us not to come early because we were not allowed to walk on their beach, sit near their pool even though we were going for dinner and using the spa. Of course when we got there Aloha spirit was everywhere so none of it was an issue, but perhaps management can give talking points to its staff.
Food at Brown's was excellent. We had the Mushroom Mac and Cheese, Grilled Octopus, Island Vegetables, Fish of the Day and Salads. Our waitress was attentive probably too much so, but hey better that than being ignored. The challenge was is that the online menu had virtually no resemblance to the actual menu. This was very noticeable to my wife who is gluten free and suggested we go the the restaurant for the gluten free options highlighted online but non existent on the actual menu. The problem was our dessert. We had ordered the creme brulee and it was more like liquid pineapple mush with bits of candied fruit. No texture, no taste. We brought it to our server's attention and she kindly suggested we just eat the coconut sorbet as it was better anyway. When she served the dessert she brought it to us on a beautiful plate that Happy Honeymoon written on it in chocolate. Very cool and appreciated.
The location on the water is great but close enough to their beach so you can hear frolicking and partying which was a bit of a mood killer in the beginning. With the vog we caught an amazing sunset and felt unrushed to enjoy the location.
All in all would recommend but cannot give it the fifth star for food because of the unimaginative pedestrian creme brulee.
This is on the short list of our favorite restaurants on earth. The outside sitting area, next to the beautiful small swimming bay with the rest of the ocean right in front of you, with nothing blocking the view other than a couple of palm trees, is magical. The only other high-end restaurant view that rivals this in all of the Hawaiian islands is Merriman's in Kapalua on Maui. The food is equally incredible. The Kampachi fish encrusted with crab is amazingly good; better than the Kampachi we had anywhere else in recent years (if ever). And the service was great; attentive without being overbearing.
Beautiful setting! The food was delicious: had the grilled octopus starter, venison (from Maui) entree and the Ono (fish) stew. A wonderful and varied wine list. Our server, Ann, was wonderful: helping to guide us through the menu and pairing wines with our food. It was our last night in Hawaii and Browns made it very special!
Service was great. Having gluten-free options for my wife’s allergy is always a great thing. Especially, having gluten-free bread with a hint of hawaiian salt & honey. The great service was a definate plus. The duck was amazing and the mushroom mac n’ cheese with truffle oil was too. Main meal was also delicious for the both of us. The Hawaiian sea bass was good; a bit too ginger tasting for me; but my wife really liked it. And her Opa was more to my liking with an amazing sauce. But hands down the BEST poke we have had leaving in hawaii (17 years here for my wife and 9 years here for me). It is the MUST have starter to any meal.
Browns was exceptional in every way: Cuisine (Filet, Fish), service (Christian) and ambiance. Exceptionally-romantic.
Celebrated my husbands big 50. Atmosphere and view are stunning. Michelle gave us the best service and felt like a friend. Food was wow! Great mellow live music. Fabulous experience!
We spent a lovely evening at Brown's Beach House; it's one of our favorite places on the Big Island. The atmosphere was wonderful: balmy weather (though it was cloudy and no sunset), and great live music by a singer who sang all of our favorite songs. My only other comment is that most, if not all, of the entrees on the menu appeared to be (delightfully) rich. I'd like to see some simpler items on the menu.
A restaurant is first and foremost about the food. Sadly, Brown's leaves much to be desired. My wife and I shared dinner here and agreed that the beat salad was good and it all went downhill from there. My swordfish was served in a broth that was uneven with grossly overcooked abalone and shrimp. Her mahi mahi special had an "aioli" on it and was served over Angel Hair pasta with cherry tomatoes. The Aioli was too close to mayonnaise and when it mixed with the pasta the dish became strangely flavored.
This is a special location, truly one of the most beautiful settings in the world. It is unfortunate that management has chosen to neglect the most important element of the dining experience.
The server was great. Cocktails were basic but well prepared. The setting is unmatched. The food was just.. well... bad.
My husband and I enjoyed our dinner here very much! We live on the island, in Hilo, and had come across the island to celebrate our anniversary- we picked Brown's for its location and menu, and we were not disappointed! Lovely and comfortable outdoor seating, great view, and we were blessed with one of the most colorful sunsets we have ever seen! Soft live music and torches added to the ambience. Excellent service, appealing and creative menu, delicious food and drinks, dietary need easily accommodated. All around wonderful experience, would definitely recommend to friends and will consider coming back :)
Ambiance as always was simply spectacular. Strongly recommend requesting a table outside with a reservation ~45 min prior to sunset. No better setting for a romantic dinner. My only complaint (and this was disappointing, to be honest) is that the Filet Mignon I ordered medium rare was prepared medium well (kind of broke my heart a little, but didn't want say anything at the time and risk disrupting what was an otherwise incredible and romantic evening). Overall though, this is still one of my favorite fine dining experiences on the Big Island
We had a beautiful ocean-front dinner. The setting was romantic. The live guitar player/singer was tremendous. Food was excellent. We shared an ahi Caesar salad to start, then had steak & lobster, with a side of pasta, and a dessert. Both of us thought, for the price, we should have had more lobster. Service was friendly and efficient without being disruptive. All in all, it was a lovely setting and delicious meal. We were glad we went!
We ate here for our final dinner in Hawaii and it was the special dinner we anticipated. Great view, great menu, great service, great everything. The live music (guitar player) added to, didn't detract from, the ambience. Staff is very attentive, chef is very creative. Looking forward to when we can return.
As always, a wonderful dining experience in Hawaii
Spectacular food. Such creativity with different flavors and textures. Our beat meal on Hawaii!
A wonderful elegant dining experience with great tasting food, service and ambiance.
Very disappointed. The quality of food was significantly less than our last visit. Fish overcooked, shrimp undercooked and gelatinous. Quality of food and long wait for food likely affected by other events that evening. Server did a nice job given the circumstances. The live entertainment was lackluster at best and left for lengthy periods of time.
Food was fantastic, service outstanding. The setting is superb!
We had a wonderful meal to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Our meals were excellent, Crab Crusted Kona Kampachi and filet. Split the octupus appetizer which was outstanding. The open air seating was heavenly with ocean breezes gently blowing. Really enjoyed the live music too. We were pleasantly surpised with a yummy ice cream dessert to cap off a perfect evening.
staff was fabulous. Nice room and resort. Fish way over cooked and dry. Duck was ok.
Fish is one of the few items we have in Hawaii that is local and typically good quality. Maybe just a freak event but had Mahi and was bone dry, as were the shrimp in the dish. Sorry but true. A bit dissapointing at $45 for the main plate.
Wonderful place. Great food.
Gorgeous beachfront setting, perfect at sunset! Service was impeccable and food was perfect. We look forward to dining at this beautiful place again!
Forty-eighth Wedding Anniversary
Beautiful ambiance, professional wait staff, and the best dinner we had on the Big Island.
Wish this restaurant was in my back yard.
Brown’s is always our last night out in Kona. Beautiful setting!
There was a large group that the kitchen could handle. It took 45mins for us to get our appetizers.
Food was mediocre. Big disappointment given the prices. Will not return.
Lovely place on the ocean with terrific live music, local ingredients, great food and service.
Ate there twice over four days and had outstanding food and service both times. Christian and Bruce were both excellent. The ambiance at sunset cannot be beaten. Would highly recommend to anyone.
Seated immediately, great service, great drinks and food, amazing sunset views!
Excellent food and exquisite service. You have to sit in Christian's section on the lanai. He is truly outstanding!
We dine at Brown's Beach House whenever we're on the Big Island, and we've never been disappointed. Last night our server was particularly good: friendly, attentive, responsive. I had to send my fish back because it had chili oil on it, and he was deeply apologetic and made sure the replacement was rushed out asap. And it was. And it was delicious. My husband loved his seared tuna. We also love the abalone appetizer - sustainably farmed right down the road in Kona. It's wonderful to be able to spend time in a restaurant where we don't have to shout at each other to be heard. You can't beat the waterfront location - bring a sweater or light wrap in case the breeze comes up. Wonderful!
It was delicious as it always is . We love dining at Brown’s . A beautiful setting .
Our server Cliff was great. The food of filet mignon and eggplant were delicious as well as the Macadamia nut Mac and cheese. They treated us very well on our anniversary dinner. Great restaurant
