   Went to Brittens for a birthday celebration. Had visited the restaurant previously and was keen to return. Unfortunately the experience did not live up to the first visit. The staff were friendly and the young staff were helpful but they didn't let us know about menu changes until we were about to order which was disappointing, having selected interesting dishes, only to be told they were no longer available! Overall a pleasant evening, with good food, the experience marred by bad organisation.

   We were greeted nicely by the staff and the 4 of us ordered our starters and main course. After waiting exactly one hour I remonstrated to the staff, that the wait was not acceptable. The reply was that Mr Britten was no longer associated with the restaurant and that there was a new chef, and the restaurant would be undergoing a re-branding. We were at that stage offered a bottle of wine as a token gesture because of the delay, however we preferred to have the meal delivered than drink more alcohol.15 mins later the starter arrived and when we were asked if there was anything else that could be brought, my guest suggested a magnifying glass, to be able to see the minute portion of goats cheese and beetroot. All four of us chose the risotto, which all of us agreed was tasteless stodge. No offer of reduction etc was made when the bill was presented, and we paid rather than embarrass our guest's. This is not a rant out of the blue as we have been dining at Britten's since it opened and have had some wonderful evenings. However this experience was a disaster, and not recommended to others unless there is a complete change

   Service was excellent and friendly. Menu was interesting without being OTT. Restaurant was quite busy on an early evening Sat. Would defo go again.

   Visited Brittens Restaurant on Saturday night and was very disappointed to say the least. I felt really rushed as my table was booked for 7.15pm and we were out at 8.30pm after 3 courses. The food was average And to many flavours on one plate, trying to hard. Will not be visiting anytime soon.

   I took my husband and son along as it was my husbands birthday. We had a great evening and will go back again on special occasions.

   Good food and friendly staff, I like the small menu but thought it needs changing weekly. I went two weeks running and had the same choice which is limited.

   Staff a little bit over the top and not always easy to summon but it never spoilt our evening. There's a really nice atmosphere in there and the food (apart from a schoolboy error on the starter) was outstanding, all our main courses totally delicious. The wine list is very reasonably priced and the red was served at perfect temperature. We didn't have dessert or coffee but I'd definitely go again, in fact I can't wait x

   Portion size was smaller than expected - to nouvelle cuisine standards. It was the first evening open after several days closed, so maybe there wasn't sufficient stock for a fuller meal. The side of potatoes was, however substantial, and the food quality and taste was excellent. The wine was reasonable value for money and the service was attentive without being overbearing.

   We enjoyed a birthday lunch for my student son in October and decided to return for a pre-Christmas lunch before the end of term. The set lunch menu offered good choices, although we chose to go for the steak and burger at £3 extra, both with 'real chips'. Having started with some bread with Smokey House Butter and a Crispy Egg with Marmite Mayonnaise (both excellent), neither of us had room for a dessert! A glass of the house champagne each helped to make this an enjoyable, festive occasion, with friendly and attentive service throughout. Thank you.
