Good brunch menu. Lots of choices. Very good Bloody Marys. We are very sorry that Braise is closing. We can only hope a new owner will come to the rescue and take it over.
We enjoyed our lunch date. Service was fantastic - we would absolutely dine there again- if you weren’t closing!!!! :(
Food was excellent .
Severely disappointed. The crab cake tasted like it was filled with stovetop stuffing. There were only three waitstaff at prime dinner time trying to take care of front and rear dining area. The filet looked like a cheap version of a sirloin steak. My husband had the filet , it was not cooked correctly and was not a filet. The only good thing from the dinner were the mussels. Would not recommend this restaurant.
Service was poor from the start. My wife and I walked in without a reservation and were told there were no open tables without a reservation in the back area, but we could sit in the bar area if we wanted. There were four open tables in the back room when we were told this. We walked out and I used open table to make a reservation. They were shocked when we walked back in with a reservation and one host/waitress said that the one reservation had not shown up so we could take that table.....the no-show reservation was an hour old and was 45 minutes old the first time we walked in...so why could we not have a table without a reservation.
Following this we had a waitress who disappeared for 15-30 minutes before seeing her again. I assume she was working the front area. It took forever to get our food and it was cold when we got it.
Meanwhile, the four open tables that were there the first time we arrived still had not been cleaned off by the time we received our food. This has been about an hour from the first time we walked in. 3-4 servers working the area and it took 15 minutes for a small table to get completely cleared and wiped from the time the first server removed the first dirty item. They weren’t even that busy at the time.
Additionally, if you come in the back door you end up waiting for a while because there is no dedicated host. All the servers are hosts and all the hosts are servers.
The food was mediocre and the customer service was significantly sub-standard.
Our birthday dinner at Braise on Feb. 23rd was wonderful. We always have excellent food at Braise. It was Restaurant Week, and we had 2 servers in a huge dining room, that was packed. Our server, Brad, said a few of the servers called in, but he and Amy (?) did very well, keeping the crowd happy. I tell all my friends about Braise and I've had lunch, brunch and dinner there. A friend of mine from Savannah, Ga. came to visit over the summer...and he loved Braise. Savannah has MANY excellent restaurants, and you rate with the BEST!!!
Our server Kelly was wonderful. The food was fantastic and out in great time. The appetizers were served quickly and everything was hot and delicious. Entrees were a few minutes later. We all ordered steaks. They were cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was relaxed and we never felt hurried. Great experience. Thank you
We were there for Valentine's Day with another couple. We arrived before our reserved time and went to the bar for a drink. We sat there for at least 10 minutes, maybe longer before we were even acknowledged. Eventually we were and got a drink. The drinks were good. When we were seated at our table, it was a very long time before anyone came by. It appeared that the restaurant was very understaffed and when we finally saw the waitress and said something about it she apologized and said that someone called in and therefore there were only two servers to handle all of the tables. Overall, she did a decent job as she could with being overloaded. My husband and I ordered the $35 dinner that included choice of starter, entree and dessert. After we ordered we were told that the side that was to accompany the short ribs my husband and I ordered was unavailable. We were offered a choice of a substitute. My chosen substitute not only replaced the unavailable side dish but also the other side dish that was to come with the entree. My husband and I ordered creme brulee for dessert. We never got it. We forgot about it until we got home. Our friends enjoyed their meals, our short ribs were fine but not great. Starters and wine was good. We had been at Braise twice before and liked it, but with all the great choices in Hampton Roads, I would not return because of this experience.
Dinner at Braise is always delicious. We are always shocked at how few diners have discovered this restaurant.
New Year’s Eve. Restaurant not crowded. Food was good but service was lacking. Wait staff seemed bored and had no sense of humor. Wrong dessserts were served, bill incorrect. Has potential if the service could be improved .
The restaurant was nearly empty on a Saturday night-that should have been my clue! My cocktail arrived with flat tonic water and my husband's cocktail could not be made because the bar lacked the ingredients (I assume Cointreau). They offered a holiday menu special with a starter, entree and dessert for one price which I did appreciate. Salads were fine (nothing special), but my broiled crab cake was mushy and contained a lot of filler. The southern cooked greens were gritty and overcooked to the point of being brown. They seemed to be cooked in the traditional way with pork-which I do like, but they were overcooked and very salty. The hush puppies were hot but tasted of old oil. I am not sure why a side of pimento cheese is served with the meal but it did not really go with anything. My husband ordered seafood etouffee which had nice flavor but the clams and mussels were overcooked. Our dessert was vanilla creme brulee but the waiter arrived with one vanilla and one he called salted caramel. I found this confusing since that was not even on the menu. I was given the one dessert and he left to get a vanilla brulee that my husband preferred-kind of strange. Overall, the meal was well below expectations and we will not visit again.
Food and service were excellent. Can’t wait to go back and try their brunch menu!
Party of four enjoyed crab cakes, salmon patties, oysters, and short ribs. Easy to recommend any one of those dishes.
Food was fantastic and service was great! Came for Restaurant Week because I had come here with friends and I wanted my husband and son to try it. It did not disappoint and we will be back!
We went for VB restaurant week. I was expecting really great food based on menu descriptions. It was good, but nothing special. My boyfriend ordered an entree and it ended up being served with mushrooms, instead of the squash that tge menu said it came with. They did not tell us that there was a substitution and when he asked for literally anything else to accompany his steak, they said no substitutions for restaurant week. They subbed.. not him. So he had to order something entirely different since they refused to make it right. Seemed like a really ridiculous policy. You have to tell folks when you are subbing items. There could be allergies. I probably won't go back based on the customer service quality and the lack luster food.
Came for restaurant week. All three courses that my date and I had was great. Great portion for price....
Service was good, food was delicious.. though my husband's steak was overcooked and a bit lackluster so he sent it back and ordered what I had.. he was happy then. We will probably return.
I went with a friend for Restaurant Week yesterday and am going again tomorrow. That should say it all. What a great menu, food and service!
Unfortunately we did not have a great experience at this restaurant. Perhaps it was because it was restaurant week and they were overly busy. It took more than an hour to get our food order. When dessert was served I received cold bread pudding. I asked the waitress if this was how it was supposed to be served and she replied no, felt the bowl and realized it was ice cold. She replied with her kitchen was operating less than perfect tonight and offered to box it up. It was my son's birthday and I was so dissapinted that our evening was far less than perfect.
First time visiting and during Restaurant Week. Started in the bar for Happy Hour. We'll have to return to partake of the many offerings at Happy Hour time. Enjoyed the special 3 course dinner deal. My server, Jordon did an excellent job. Looking forward to revisiting Braise.
Great food. Ambiance was very nice. Not a lot of people there so we were concerned but definitely worth it in the end!
Me and my fiance had a great brunch date! We were the only ones in the back dining room, so the service was great! The food was absolutely wonderful!
We have dined at Braise for several years both on special occasions and,...just because. The food is always been terrific and the service superb. In addition to a first class dining room, they have a great informal "sports" bar area where you can order a number of special appetizers along with your drinks or enjoy your entire dinner there if you so choose. "Happy time" drink prices are great and several TVs play various sporting events full time (with the sound off). They also have a couple of large, glass enclosed "fishbowl" dining rooms that are perfect for groups and special occasions if you want a little privacy. Sunday brunch is excellent also. All in all, Braise is a true "neighborhood gem" and I would encourage more folks to take advantage of it. You won't be sorry.
The fried oyster was not my favorite, but the French Fries were amazing.
We thought we would try a different place and we chose Braise because of a newspaper review several months ago. We were pleased with our choice. My wife selected an oyster dish and she had a big bowl of she crab soup, which was generous and delicious. My Etouffee was outstanding with generous helpings of seafood.
We would definitely go back.
Great food and service! Overpaid check by accident, waiting for my gift card. Didn't realize gratuity was already in total for a party of 6. My mistake. Will surely go back!
Want with friends who were in town for a visit. They drink so we decided to do Happy Time. Then realized that many appetizers were also offered. So we ended up ordering a wide assortment of them and never needed a full dinner. Then we ordered a few desserts. The mouse and cheese cake were very good. We didn't care for the chocolate ravioli. They were hard and dry. The bread pudding was okay. I have had dinner there also and would definitely recommend this restaurant
Love Braise!!! A hidden gem, the food is always good and have never been disappointed in the menu or the service.
I had the fish and chips. Unfortunately the fish came out a little burnt on the outside and not so meaty. I hope that was just a bad night
That was our fourth visit. We may go back but not anytime soon. Maybe going for apptizers would be better for for us
My friends and I had wonderful meals which were reasonably priced. It was enjoyable because we could talk to each other, and not compete with loud music or other diners. There were many other guests, but table spacing and great acoustics made for a quiet setting.
My daughter and I went for brunch and the food was very tasty!
I took my wife for a special Mother's Day dinner. We made reservations for 7PM and were seated right away. Because we were after the crowd earlier in the day, the restaurant was not crowded and was peaceful. The music was background and not so loud it competed with conversation. We have had better she crab soup but it was still good. The seafood hushpuppies with pimento cheese were great, good with any entree. We love their braised beef short ribs and especially the fried spinach. On Sunday's you can get a bottle of wine for half price.
Food was great. I had a reservation for 6:15 and right in front of my family the waitress told the hostess I don't care make them wait. We waited over an hour for food. The menu was awesome but the servers comments trough me off not sure if we will go back. We drove from Great Bridge area to try this place. Was really excited and then trough off by the comment.
Ambiance is really nice. It's a surprisingly spacious and very lowkey. My food (brunch) was ok. I ordered pancakes and they were pretty dense. My wife and daughters enjoyed their food (shrimp and mashed potatoes). For the price, I would've hoped for a larger portion.
The restaurant was somewhat full for Mother's Day. Our server seemed to be covering more tables than she could handle. She was cheerful & apologetic. The crab cakes were lovely. The seafood hush puppies were bland & soggy instead of flavorful & crunchy. Better luck next time.
Normally Braise has pretty good service but it's descending. My wife and I asked for a different table than the one assigned in a corner because she's claustrophobic. The waitress told us she couldn't despite there being plenty of empty seats around. It was Mother's day we didn't want to go elsewhere due to unknown wait times etc. During our meal we received no refills and our waitress was virtually nonexistent. Very poor service...the staff treated us like a means to an end, not a means.
Overall the experience was ok. In regards to my entrée when I received it it was lukewarm at most so I sent it back and instead of a fresh plate coming back it seemed to be microwaved for 2 minutes which made it hot but nothing on the plate was changed (I could tell because it was exactly how I sent it back with the meat cut to certain sides). In regards to my dates entrée, the etoufee, although it tasted good, the seafood wasn't properly cleaned so there was a lot of sand throughout the plate. They didn't know from what piece of seafood all the sand was coming from so there was no point to send back as it'd probably return the same way but it was just very difficult to eat when every other bite I could hear from across the table her crunching on sand.
This time we came during restaurant week, but have come many times before and have never been disappointed. Good variety, excellent quality and service. Definitely a place to check out!
It was Restaurant Week so it was a great value. The portions were large, we took home half of the food. Because it was Restaurant week we couldn't get a reservation until the 8:30 pm seating and they were very busy. It took 45 minutes to get our entree, our water glasses were not refilled and were told we would get bread to go with our 1st course but did not show up until after we finished our entree. The server was great but didn't check on us during our long wait for the entree. Otherwise a great experience as usual. Would go back but not during Restaurant Week.
