Was a little hesitant about having our first experience at Bookbinders be for Mothers' Day/ Graduation but they did an incredible job. They had a scaled back 3 course menu but still plenty of options. Our table of 6 was seated immediately (our table was even ready a bit early). Since it was a special menu/ evening they asked us to order all 3 courses but everything was paced out well and we never felt rushed. We all enjoyed our meals. Crab cakes were great, filet and ancho rubbed ribeye were so so good. Seafood salad was piled with seafood. The menu included family style sides of mashed potatoes (great) and green beans (just ok) and they replenished as requested. Sourdough bread hot and delicious with nice butter. Super impressed with the service and quality for such a busy day. We also were so happy with the gluten free options for our guest with celiac. Wish they had some gluten free bread to offer but otherwise, he felt safe and so many great choices (and feels great the next day). Also a tad disappointed that they were out of a couple items by our evening reservation and then they were also out of one of the substitutions. Well done!

I’ll get the positives out of the way first: The food and the ambiance were fine; no complaints there. The issue I had was that they ran out of many of the items on the menu (our reservation was at 6:45 pm), and we weren’t allowed to deviate (my eldest wanted chicken fingers. which we saw another child enjoying at the table adjacent to us, but wasn’t allowed to. I would have been happy to pay whatever to make that happen—you ever had to deal with a moody adolescent?). On top of that, we had to correct the several times about our order, and by then I was just through with the whole experience. Look, I don’t take this personally. I’m sure this can be chalked up to a busy night (Mother’s Day and all), but at this price point, one should at least expect to have more than enough food available while the sun is still out.

It’s Mother’s Day. Price fix menu. It’s also college graduation for my daughter. We had a 6:30 reservation and they ran out of calamari, mushrooms and eventually scallops. Probably the busiest day of the year to have poor planning. The restaurant is very good otherwise. We’ve eaten here a few times. Tonight the fried shrimp was so delicious. I usually have steak here. The steaks, pork chop and shrimp were all delicious. The desserts were excellent too. And the bread - warm and so good. The owner was there and greeted us at our table which was nice. 4 families from my daughter’s college all coincidentally sat in the room we were in and it was not noisy and the service was excellent.

I'm honestly unsure how everyone's given this restaurant such high reviews. I'll start off to say the only reason it got 2 stars instead of 1 is because our server was so kind. My mom has wanted to go to this restaurant for years, and for Mothers Day, I finally decided to take her. First, parking was difficult. The small parking lot they did have was completely full, but that was to be expected for Richmond. As soon as you walk through the doors, you are hit with a loud blast of noise, which is unexpected for a high-end restaurant. Some of the noise included loud music, where usually you would only expect classical jazz it instead had pop music playing, the area where they clean the silverware and cups was just out in the open so it made it sound like you were at an amusement park cafeteria instead of an expensive restaurant. We ordered our food just fine but when the appetizers came out mine was the only one that came out it wasn't until almost 10 minutes later that my mom's came out which seemed like a common theme at the other tables surrounding us. When my mom's plate of mushrooms finally came out it seems that one of the mushrooms had fallen over and all the filling had fallen onto the plate, and the bottom of the plate was so dirty it stained the table. When the meal finally came out, I ordered the fried shrimp with spiral cut potatoes (I think was the name) although the fried shrimp was as expected the spiral cut potatoes ended up to be frozen bagged french fries. For desert, I got the sorbet my mom got the cheesecake the sorbet tasted fine but the cheesecake literally had no flavor and was room temperature. Value wise, this meal shouldn't have been over $100 instead with the gratuity added it was $274. The waiters and other staff would Zoom pass our tables so fast that they almost knocked my mom over when she was coming out of her booth at one point and when they clean the tables they were just putting things on the back of our booths I will not be returning

The food was great! The service was awesome. My family and I had a great experience dining on Mother’s Day. I definitely will return to dine again.

Our server, Jesse was great. Good amazing especially the seafood Louie wedge salad Here from Los Angeles for a wedding and did not want to miss out on going here.
