On a busy Friday night the food was quite good, although the service was somewhat harried.
Tasty outing. The single vegan entree option wasn’t as tasty as it could have been (where were all the veggies? Mostly carrot/red cabbage slaw. Pork shank was good. Yellowtail tacos so-so — why don’t restaurants griddle corn tortillas? They’re raw otherwise, folks.
The Brussel Sprouts are beyond amazing! One of the Best I have ever eaten. My boyfriend had the Pork Belly Flatbread Pizza and loved it. I had the Boeuf Bourguignon it was also very good, just maybe a tab bit salty. Would come back again. 😋
We come here all the time. Unfortunately, this time it took us over an hour to get our food and people coming in and out and getting their food and leaving before us. It was very warm inside the establishment no air circulating. The food was good by the time we received it. Not going to come back for a while.
Service was excellent. The bartender & wait staff were great. Super friendly & attentive. The drinks were amazing. A bit pricey, but you just need one. We only had appetizers but the frites were amazing!!!
This experience was not a good one, the occasion was the last meal before my sister left to go back home. The food was burnt and the wine served was such a small portion that I cannot believe that they charge what they do for it. I will probably not be headed back to the La Mesa Beau Bo's. Yes, we had our meal compt, but we also didn't get to eat it either so therefore it should have been compt. As should the very small glass of wine. Waste of time, effort, and a good evening out - and all I got was to not have to pay for the burnt food. Great.
All meals at Bo Beau should start with the Brussels Sprouts appetizer. Each time I go I try to find something different for the main course but we never have a second thought as to what the appetizer will be. Yep, they're good. This time I had the rotini with cheese and duck confit. I know this will sound like sacrilege but there's just too much cheese in this dish. I love duck and its flavor doesn't come thru from the over abundance of cheese.
The wait staff was good as always. Good beer selection, some decent wines and around a dozen crafty cocktails to quench your thirst. My 3 table mates had the steak / frites, salmon, and a roast chicken. Everyone but me licked their plates clean. I couldn't finish that rich cheesy dish so I took half of my rotini home and finished it the next day.
Great food - poor service. The glass of wine we ordered was not even served in a wine glass and was a very chintzy serving to say the least. We were there for at least 15 minutes before it arrived at our table. The beer we ordered was in a funky skinny glass and you could tell it had been sitting on the bar for a while and wasn't even cold. We waited forever to get the bill and finally had to go track down the server. All in all - not a good experience.
We dined here on a Friday night before a concert at the SDSU Outdoor theater. It's just a couple exits past the college so it was quick and easy to get back. We had a couple of cocktails, the Kentucky Tea and the City of Lights. Both were great for sitting outside on the patio. Cool and refreshing. I had the Beet & Pear Salad with some grilled chicken. It was good, very fresh and exactly what I expected. My husband had the Beef Bourguignon. It was out of this world. Lots of tender beef, very little fat, beautiful green beans, onions, mushrooms, etc. He said it was probably the best he's ever had. It was comfortable outside because there was a little breeze. Inside the restaurant was like a sauna. No AC or fans that we saw. Our waiter Tony was great, kept our water glasses filled and checked on us a couple of times. We are from outside of the county, so we didn't know there was a farmer's market on Friday night right on La Mesa Blvd. Wish we would have had more time to check it out. Two thumbs up for BO-beau!
Everyone we go we have just a great time. The service is amazing as well as the food. The manager Matt always goes out of his way to make us and everyone else feel so special.
As with most of this company's restaurants, the food & service was superb. That said, I object to the separate 3% over-charge to cover the costs of doing business - It seems like a political statement & as such, has nothing to do with the restaurant per se.
That said, I feel all businesses that hire & train tip-earning employees should be given a dispensation when arriving at various wage-guided legislation.
Great food, we love the brussel sprouts appetizer. Our kids love the real mac n cheese, not from a box, and especially the school bus!
I had high hopes for this restaurant. As part of the Cohn group I expected a delicious menu, great service and an overall experience. The menu was ok, although their cocktails are on point! Three of us each ordered different things, I can’t say I would try any of the three items again. The service was so-so. We had to wait a long time for our check and to cash out. Our server wasn’t overly attentive and could have checked on us more. The ambiance is ok, but the chairs are uncomfortable. The overall experience was lackluster, uninspired, and not worth repeating. If you have a choice, go to the Bo-Beau in Hilcrest. It’s much better!
Still one of my favorite places to eat. Super dog friendly and staff was awesome as always!
Love the friendly servers and the bus for my son to play on while we dine! The cocktails are great too! The food and wine prices are absurdly expensive, but noticing that’s become the norm in SD. :(
Service and atmosphere was great. The city of lights cocktail was on point. While I enjoyed my meal it was honestly a little over priced. My whole table got a good giggle out of the portion size of my heirloom tomato salad. Literally four slices of tomato.
We had several vegetarians and they had several entrees to choose from.
Experience was meh...
We tried one of the salads with salmon and the steak frites. My girlfriend said her steak was a bit tough... they also have her a butter knife to cut it with 😂. It took them a very long time to bring our food... about 55 minutes from the time we places our order... which also took a very long time. After nearly waiting for an hour we got our food. My salad was excruciatingly basic and really looked like it took 27 seconds to prepare. Worst of all they forgot the salmon! So I stared at a basic salad for 15 minutes until my salmon came... by that time I was no longer hungry but pretty comfortable from the pinot... God bless red wines.
Brussel sprouts need a little bit more even flavor... some bites plain and bitter while other bites too salty or sweet. We arrived at an apparent shift change because it took 30 minutes for someone to check in on us after we were seated and initially asked if we were ready to order.
Our only concern was that the kitchen did not bring out our food in a timely manner. The server finally noticed as did the manager. We have been here before - even when it was busier. It was probably just a
The young lady working as hostess seemed like she wanted to be elsewhere. The outdoor dining area looks like it was nice in the past but the landscaping was in dire need of attention. We were seated next to one of the dying trees and some sort of worms from the tree were descending upon us. We had to clean the fallen plant matter from our appetizer plates.
The wait staff were nice but, you could tell it wasn't genuine. The food was OK. I had the burger ,which was good, but way overpriced. The fries that came with it were rubbery. My partner had the tofu bowl which he barely touched, and he eats that sort of dish all of the time. Overall the food for the price, and the patio area could be greatly improved upon. Will not be back.On a plus note, a different hostess that was working the front as we were leaving, although very busy, made a point to thank us.
Thought it was very overpriced for the amount of food. One little sliver of whitefish and some green beans for $25 is a bit much. Portions should match the price. Other than that the food was very good.
Great staff service from the minute we walked in. Brussels sprouts were a bit too charred so tasted burnt. We ate them
as we were pretty hungry. Large portion, so we split the beef bourguignon which was so tender and tasty. I love that we have this restaurant in La Mesa so I hope everyone pays it a visit!
Dined at 7 PM on a Wednesday night. The garden area was packed when we arrived but most patrons dispersed by 8 PM. Dismantled school bus off to the side of the outdoor dining area was made for children's play.
We dined on: Jalapeno Deviled Eggs (2 halves for $7 but worth it!), Beef Carpaccio Bruschetta (bread nice and soft on the inside with lightly toasted edges, decent amount of beef/cheese/greens), Linguini with clams (some pieces of shell within after removing the whole clam shells, strong on the garlic), Pork belly flatbread (tasty, but it was light on the pork belly and other toppings), Catch of the Day which was sea bass (flavorful, cooked well, good with charred cauliflower side dish), Beet and Blueberry Salad (enough for a main course instead of just a starter/side salad, and very good), and child's menu cheese quesadilla with apples/carrots and shoestring fries (all were good).
A great restaurant, beautiful inside and out, cool bar area, heard birds chirping in nests which were in the tall vines/bushes on the sides of the outdoor dining/garden area. Definitely good for groups, small groups and solo diners. Good menu variety. Friendly and attentive staff. Clean and spacious wheelchair accessible bathrooms (separate men/women). On-street parking is free after 6:00 PM and is otherwise metered.
Food big improvement, service still need some work. Overall not a bad place to come for dinner . But I would say it’s hit and miss , one day food not so good but service is great today the opposite food was good and service not so much . Still cool place to come have few drinks and enjoy the evening
We had a wonderful time! Our server was amazing, food was anazing, coconut mojito amazing!!!
The special shrimp dish was not good at all. The chicken dinner and brussel sprouts were acceptable, and the fresh salad was great. I also had a coconut mojito, which could have been excellent.. however they put WAY too much coconut milk in it, drowned out all the other lovely flavors and made it too sweet as well.
The hamburger was excellent but the french fries are terrible.
Cute patio area that allows for low key meet ups as well as a posh girls night out.
There are not too many good dining options out in East County and so that being said I really want to love Bo Beau , it has a good menu, decent cocktails, a limited wine list, good service and great ambience including a lovely outdoor patio area. I have dined at the La Mesa location at least five or six times now in the last couple of years and something is always lacking every time I visit. The famous brussels sprouts are horrible. They used to actually roast them but they have become so popular that now they deep fry them to a Burnt crisp and cover them with slabs of shaved Parmesan and some bacon. Yuck, give me actual roasted Brussel sprouts please! The wines by the glass are very small pours for the price. The beer list is decent and cocktails are creative but very weak. I used to enjoy their flatbreads but now they use an onion jam base on all of them and to me it overpowers the delicate toppings in many cases. The mussels are very good. When I have ordered their specials, they tend to be hit and miss. For example, I had the spotted Seabass special the other night and the fish was horrible! I probably should have sent this back. Salads are generally solid. Desserts are basic. Won’t be back soon, there are too many other options that are better in San Diego.
Never disappointed. This place is amazing. Food, service, and ambience a 10!
Overall a good experience although when we wanted or needed something whether it was to order our food, ask for ketchup, say we still needed our soup, wanted more water, or to say our fries were stale and cold we had to flag down someone .. which wasn’t always easy or timely.
Seated promptly, excellent service with very good food, but poor bar service(can't make a proper Manhattan ).
Friendly staff. Nice outdoor setup.
Great brussel sprouts!
(Unfortunately one of the guest on the patio was smoking (vape) but kept hiding it when waiters/bussers were in the area. So she kept smoking it despite having children around her. It would have been nice had she been told to discontinue.)
Overall it was ok. The food was pretty good, especially their Brussel sprouts!!!
The service was good but it took a long time to get our food and it wasn't very busy yet. Ive been before and enjoy the outside seating much more.
Father’s Day—the food took way too long to come out. The server was great, ambiance was good.
My wife’s fish of the day was very oily. My French onion soup was mediocre. My pork shank was bland. The service was very good but the food was not so great. The manager was apologetic and acknowledged others complained about the fish of the day. I’ll go to other Cohn Group restaurants but not back here.
Great beer and wine selection. Lots of good food choices, there's something for everyone. Lovely garden seating.
We love this restaurant for many reasons, but one important reason is that it is very kid friendly! Especially when you sit outside on the patio, your kids can run around and play on the school bus play area while you dine!
one of my favorite restaurants..we sat on patio and had a party of 5..the food and
drink was awesome but the server seemed disinterested and going thru the motions
with us. I would start to say something and had to talk fast because she kept walking
away from us before we were done with our questions. Made us feel like we were not
Great food and service. Brussel sprouts are always the goto appetizer.
