My husband got the hamburger & was disappointed that it didn't have the egg on it that he asked for. I got the salmon & it was OK. A little over seasoned with for me & not a big fan of having the skin on or the tarter sauce around it. The little pieces if sweet potato didn't taste like sweet potato & was under cooked in my opinion. The garlic wine mussels were awesome! Our server was really nice. The place is fun to just be outside and look at. All & all tax & tip the bill was almost a $100 & it just didn't seem like a $100 meal:(
Great place!! My wife and I enjoyed the food and the staff was great too. If your looking to spend a little bit more for better quality food then this is the location to try. I already plan on visiting again soon!!
Always a great meal. Hubby’s first time and he loved his birthday dinner. The dog was also quite happy with her bowl of water and doggie treat from the hostess 🐶
I had the pork shank and it was better than any schweinshaxe I had in Germany. The meat literally fell off the bone. Only thing I would change is a little less cauliflower in cheese sauce and replace that with 1 more of the fried polenta. That little rectangle was magic.
The service was outstanding! The gals name is Allyse. She really did a tremendous job taking care of all 4 of us. The food was top notch also. The overall experience forsure a 5 plus! Definitely going back.
Good job on the boeuf bourgignon! Also love the citrus vinaigrette on the salad. Beautiful in the evening on the outdoor patio.
Well we went during restaurant week and the menu was slim pickens, so my brother ordered off of the regular menu a hamburger with egg and bacon. He ordered the hamburger cooked and the egg over easy. The burger came very rare with almost raw bacon and no egg. Had to wait to ask someone and it finally came separate 5 minutes later. Desert was another issue as our server said it was coming right up and it did not for almost 10 minutes. Very small piece of cake and she said the kitchen was really backed up. Over all not a good meal or value for sure.
We went there for date night as we always do and we’re there for restaurant week . We were very surprised to see that we had two dining options for restaurant week $30 or $40 and with all the options for a bottle of wine. We chose our wine and the dinner. The wine we ordered was from the Russian River witch is always a win win for us.
The question that we have is what ever happened to the art of opening a bottle of wine? The server that we had was very personal and efficient however was not skilled at the art of opening a bottle of wine. Wine makers take great pride in the making of their wines and take care and love in the packaging. When a professional tears off the hood off the bottle and then had to use the adjacent table to finish pulling the cork this is not a professional. We enjoy our dinners and had asked for our deserts to package togo.
we arrived home and aloud time for are dinners to have settled before we open our boxes only to fine out that it was wasn’t what we had ordered.
We will continue to dine for their for date night be not likely for restaurant week.
Ate here before a concert at Viejas Center & my family & I thoroughly enjoyed it! Never expected to find such a gem in La Mesa! Lovely atmosphere, good service & good food! Brussels sprouts were as amazing as advertised & the fritters with the salmon could be a vegetarian meal in itself! The pistachio torte was light & delicious!
The manager and staff were great. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. When we asked if we could move outside, our request was met with a "give us a minute" reply. From the moment we walked in, my clients, husband and I all felt well served. We like the easy going nature of Beau Beau (all of them). Out server was Janet.. she was great. But, it was the manager (sadly I did not get her name) that made it clear we were welcome and that she and the staff would do what they could be make it a good night /experience. Even in 2018, six mature Gay men can't always say it goes that way. Mission accomplished.. a good time was had by all. Thank you!
My 50th birthday
Even though we were early for our reservation they found a table ready for us at the time we arrived. The food is very very good and the atmosphere is very inviting. Staff was very friendly and attentive. One of the other things that stood out was the value in the portions in the appetizers and our main courses.
We come to BO-Beau at least once a month. We almost always ask for a specific table outdoors. After reserving early the same day, they were not able to accommodate our same table, and could not watch our 2 little girls on the bus from the table. BO-Beau is my 5 yr olds fav spot, and we wanted to go anyway. When we arrived, there was a cancellation and they were able to seat us at the table we requested. They are always very thoughtful and prompt with their service and everyone is nice and knowledgeable.
Can't wait to go again...
Very good food, been here multiple times and will continue to visit the restaurant!
Great food and service. You just can’t go wrong with Cohn Restaurants.
I have been to this Bo Beau and the other numerous times. This visit was a disappointment.
We ate out on the patio and there was bugs, specifically BEES as well as flies, all over. There needs to be citronella candles or something to alleviate this. We were all swatting our food constantly. At other outdoor dining venues I have not experienced it to this extent.
Both my salmon and my husband's catch of the day were so under cooked the inside was cold. I sent mine back asking if they could just toss it back on the grill for a few minutes. 20 minutes later I finally got it back, and everyone else was done eating. The zucchini fritter was also under cooked as the eggs were runny.
Appetizers were great ( deviled eggs and brussel sprouts) and dessert ( flourless chocolate cake) was also delicious. The non alcohol spritzer is also very good.
Food was in general very good. Brussel Sprouts were plentiful (actually too much if only sharing with another person). Beet salad was nice a refreshing with min yogurt sauce. Linguine with clams was tasty, but glad we shared that as well. Service was a bit clunky...initially too attentive, then sort of lacking after food order was placed. Had a wine special that week and waitress had no suggestions and stated she knew nothing about the wines offered. Nice outdoor seating...lots of families with kids so be prepared for the occasional outburst and wandering children...it is east county so that is expected.
Terrible service. We ordered two orders of the Clambake. Two bowls had something missing. One had no corn, another had no shrimp. The waitress disappeared for long periods of time despite it not being busy. This is the second time in a row I've had a bad experience at this location. I will not be returning.
Table was between one for eight and a closer one for two. Asked to move and was told the other tables were reserved. I thought I had a reservation too ! Food was marginal. They had a clam bake special for two that included lobster. The lobster was terrible and you only had a fork and knife to eat it. Waitress never returned after taking our order to see how the food was. Avios this entree
Amazing! We will be back! Brussels were divine, garden cocktails
I ordered the Moules Provençal and found the sauce to be overpowered by the herbs. The frites that came with it were too salty (the fries are shoe-strings). It would have been nice if the sourdough had been toasted or garlicky. So no, I didn’t really enjoy my meal. My husband ordered the chicken. I thought it was tender. Okay but not great.
Food was excellent. Enjoyed their specific entrees and drinks and portions were in line with price point.
Above everything else, the servers were fantastic. The kitchen was a bit slow. The fries are so thin and crispy, there is no potato texture left to them at all. Love the outdoor patio. It could be a little shadier, and it would be if the long stretch of hot weather were taken into account, and the plants were watered more deeply and more frequently. We had at least a dozen leaves fall on our table from the bougainvillea. Looking around, we saw that they were all getting quite bare.
Love this place. Great food in a casual atmosphere. It was a busy night so the service was slower than usual, but we were in no hurry.
Great food, great service, but way too hot. Invest in some air conditioning or loose customers! Also, thanks for putting the rib eye back on the menu......it was very good!
On a busy Friday night the food was quite good, although the service was somewhat harried.
Tasty outing. The single vegan entree option wasn’t as tasty as it could have been (where were all the veggies? Mostly carrot/red cabbage slaw. Pork shank was good. Yellowtail tacos so-so — why don’t restaurants griddle corn tortillas? They’re raw otherwise, folks.
The Brussel Sprouts are beyond amazing! One of the Best I have ever eaten. My boyfriend had the Pork Belly Flatbread Pizza and loved it. I had the Boeuf Bourguignon it was also very good, just maybe a tab bit salty. Would come back again. 😋
We come here all the time. Unfortunately, this time it took us over an hour to get our food and people coming in and out and getting their food and leaving before us. It was very warm inside the establishment no air circulating. The food was good by the time we received it. Not going to come back for a while.
Service was excellent. The bartender & wait staff were great. Super friendly & attentive. The drinks were amazing. A bit pricey, but you just need one. We only had appetizers but the frites were amazing!!!
This experience was not a good one, the occasion was the last meal before my sister left to go back home. The food was burnt and the wine served was such a small portion that I cannot believe that they charge what they do for it. I will probably not be headed back to the La Mesa Beau Bo's. Yes, we had our meal compt, but we also didn't get to eat it either so therefore it should have been compt. As should the very small glass of wine. Waste of time, effort, and a good evening out - and all I got was to not have to pay for the burnt food. Great.
All meals at Bo Beau should start with the Brussels Sprouts appetizer. Each time I go I try to find something different for the main course but we never have a second thought as to what the appetizer will be. Yep, they're good. This time I had the rotini with cheese and duck confit. I know this will sound like sacrilege but there's just too much cheese in this dish. I love duck and its flavor doesn't come thru from the over abundance of cheese.
The wait staff was good as always. Good beer selection, some decent wines and around a dozen crafty cocktails to quench your thirst. My 3 table mates had the steak / frites, salmon, and a roast chicken. Everyone but me licked their plates clean. I couldn't finish that rich cheesy dish so I took half of my rotini home and finished it the next day.
Great food - poor service. The glass of wine we ordered was not even served in a wine glass and was a very chintzy serving to say the least. We were there for at least 15 minutes before it arrived at our table. The beer we ordered was in a funky skinny glass and you could tell it had been sitting on the bar for a while and wasn't even cold. We waited forever to get the bill and finally had to go track down the server. All in all - not a good experience.
We dined here on a Friday night before a concert at the SDSU Outdoor theater. It's just a couple exits past the college so it was quick and easy to get back. We had a couple of cocktails, the Kentucky Tea and the City of Lights. Both were great for sitting outside on the patio. Cool and refreshing. I had the Beet & Pear Salad with some grilled chicken. It was good, very fresh and exactly what I expected. My husband had the Beef Bourguignon. It was out of this world. Lots of tender beef, very little fat, beautiful green beans, onions, mushrooms, etc. He said it was probably the best he's ever had. It was comfortable outside because there was a little breeze. Inside the restaurant was like a sauna. No AC or fans that we saw. Our waiter Tony was great, kept our water glasses filled and checked on us a couple of times. We are from outside of the county, so we didn't know there was a farmer's market on Friday night right on La Mesa Blvd. Wish we would have had more time to check it out. Two thumbs up for BO-beau!
Everyone we go we have just a great time. The service is amazing as well as the food. The manager Matt always goes out of his way to make us and everyone else feel so special.
As with most of this company's restaurants, the food & service was superb. That said, I object to the separate 3% over-charge to cover the costs of doing business - It seems like a political statement & as such, has nothing to do with the restaurant per se.
That said, I feel all businesses that hire & train tip-earning employees should be given a dispensation when arriving at various wage-guided legislation.
Great food, we love the brussel sprouts appetizer. Our kids love the real mac n cheese, not from a box, and especially the school bus!
I had high hopes for this restaurant. As part of the Cohn group I expected a delicious menu, great service and an overall experience. The menu was ok, although their cocktails are on point! Three of us each ordered different things, I can’t say I would try any of the three items again. The service was so-so. We had to wait a long time for our check and to cash out. Our server wasn’t overly attentive and could have checked on us more. The ambiance is ok, but the chairs are uncomfortable. The overall experience was lackluster, uninspired, and not worth repeating. If you have a choice, go to the Bo-Beau in Hilcrest. It’s much better!
Still one of my favorite places to eat. Super dog friendly and staff was awesome as always!
Love the friendly servers and the bus for my son to play on while we dine! The cocktails are great too! The food and wine prices are absurdly expensive, but noticing that’s become the norm in SD. :(
