Bluegrass Tavern in Baltimore offers rustic fine dining cuisine in an upscale tavern environment. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner, as well as a weekend breakfast service and a regular Monday night football special for sports fans. Come in to the Bluegrass Tavern to try the Southern scratch cooking, which features options for vegetarians and meat lovers.
Start your meal at Bluegrass Tavern with Jamaican jerk chicken wings or raw oysters, followed by a bistro steak, vegetarian lasagna or smoked fried chicken. Brunch includes apple fritters and banana pancakes or guests can enjoy a cheese and charcuterie board with drinks for a lighter meal.
Reservation system was down and no one answered the phone for us to change reservations to add a third person. But worked out fine, plenty of tables when we arrived
this was our third visit to bluegrass and we will definitely be back! the food was delicious as always and our service was outstanding. The waiter actually walked down the street with one of our party to show him where he could park his car so he wouldn't get a ticket! now that is going above and beyond!
We will definitely be back!
relaxing enviroment! charcuterie board was outstanding
Fantastic brunch, and great drinks! I loved the hee haw, and the eggs benedict was fantastic. Also gotta love the free beignets.
Delicious Food, Friendly Wait staff and Great Variety
Place was great! I had the lobster sliders, flank steak, and cheesecake. All which were excellent. Our server was very friendly. A bit on the pricey side but good sized portions
I thought the food was good but we went when it was restaurant week and did not get
the usual menu. I would have liked to have had the normal menu to choose from. Not
quite sure the purpose of restaurant week.
I had the chicken and dumplings. The dumplings were very very pasty and it was clear the dish had so much added flour to thicken it that it took away from the flavor.
The staff was very friendly and pleasant and offered great customer service. They were the best part of the evening.
We got there "early" (7pm) before the restaurant filled up, so we got great service.
The food was good, but not extraordinary.
We loved the crawfish hushpuppies, catfish sliders, hot friend chicken (a bit salty, though), and the desert. The steak was just ok.
We will come again when we can save up, or for a special occasion- this place is a bit above our price range.
To start, we were brought tap water with no ice--cool at best. Diet soda was $3.50, not $2 or $2.50. This is an outrageous price for a bar soda with lots of ice. Server did not ask if my partner wanted a refill. Bread and butter plates were on the table, but no bread of any kind came with our meals. When I asked why they were there, I was told, "to encourage people to order small plates."!
The menu is quite limited. I had salmon, which was decent--served over a melange of vegetable listed on the menu, but most of those listed were barely there. It was mostly fennel. Luckily, I like fennel. My partner had the chicken and dumplings. It was a large bowl of gray with shreds of chicken--looked like scraps. There were no dumplings and no real pieces of chicken. If it were me, for $17, I would have sent it back. Instead, my partner asked for dumplings. He was brought 3 marble sized pieces. There is no way I'd ever go to this restaurant again. Don't servers even know to serve food and beverages the way they'd like to be served? This place is a very poor value.
Food and service was good but the parking is lousy.
We were early for our brunch reservation and they still accommodated us. The service was awesome and our waiter gave us great advice on our choices. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere so much we came back the next day with no reservation and again were quickly seated and had another awesome food experience.
Blue Grass has very good southern food and I recommend it for restaurant week. Their portion sizes are very good and you can tell they put a lot of thought into the dishes and the ingredients are fresh and high quality. If you're coming her for a regular night, they have a great drink list that includes one of the best manhattans in baltimore. They also do a great charcuterie plate. Everyone can find something they like on the menu and the prices won't break the bank. You can also eat outside on nice nights.
This will all be meaningless shortly as I understand they're changing the name and concept.
The food at Bluegrass is horrible! Avoid this restaurant. I went here for brunch today with my husband. I ordered the banana pancakes and my husband had the smoked chicken sandwich. Both of them were practically inedible. The pancakes had this bourbon sauce on it and there was more sauce than pancakes! I had to scoop globs of it off to reach a small section of pancakes. My husband's chicken was burnt and the fries were cold and soggy. I will never return to Bluegrass again.
Done a couple of work rerated dinners at Bluegrass and they have always been fun with a vibrant atmosphere, good menu and cool drink list. Definitely in our rotation.
Shrimp and biscuit dish was great.
We were celebrating my husband's birthday. We were seated on the lower level in a quiet spot which we enjoyed. Our sever, Michael, was attentive and accommodating. He was knowledgeable about the menu and offered suggestions. We got beers and burgers, substituting the fries with salad. The burgers were delicious, perfectly cooked for me (medium) but a little too done for my husband who ordered medium rare. The menu really hadn't changed much since we were there in the winter, not really many summer type foods. We enjoy this place and might return but parking is a serious problem in Fed Hill since most of the area is residential parking only, after 6:00. We were able to find a spot several streets away; the parking lot was full.
Delicious brunch items to choose from. We sat inside but I would recommend sitting outside if possible. The atmosphere, food, and value are worth going back for.
We came to dine at Bluegrass after I purchased a LivingSocial coupon. I am very glad I did because the food was delicious . I would have never visited this establishment or known about it had not for the LivingSocial coupon. I do not frequent South Baltimore often, especially for dining as the parking is a bear.
Vince was our waiter he was very attentive when we first arrived. He answered our questions and gave his opinion on the entrees we were interested in. Vince grew up in the Baltimore area, as so myself and my dinner mate. He chuckled with us about how much the Baltimore neighborhoods had changed and what we remembered. This added a nice personal touch to the dinning experience. For newbies to Baltimore he can provide great background to the area. As the restaurant became fuller with dining guest, specifically in the area where we were seated Vince may have forgotten us. Several times we made request and they went unaddressed. This is NOT a ding on Vince, I think the restaurant may have been understaffed that evening or were not expecting the number of guest to be dinning.
I look forward to returning to Bluegrass.
The only negative is that there is no parking and street parking is hard to come by.
The food was great. So was their service, but it was so very slow. I wish they had a kid's menu.
This was my first time back to Bluegrass after taking a couple of years off for bad service and overpriced food that's not all that great. Not much has changed. Dinner service took 2 hours for one course each and they still didn't get our orders right. Wine Wednesdays are a good deal but I'm not sure they're worth the trouble.
First, our request to sit outside was not honored or noticed. The server was great and knowledgeable but the drinks and food took forever without any apology. Our waters were left empty for awhile too. Did not like being sat in the back where it was too quiet and mainly dates AND babies. The server recommended we order our burgers medium rare and when we got them they were well-done. None of the pearl onions on any of our plates' were cooked all the way through, they were actually raw. My steak, on the other hand, was cooked perfectly medium rare.
Had Sunday brunch here with friends. Warm beignets came out with fresh coffee-- you could eat a bucket full of these alone, but one or two will do it. Brunch menu is what I would call fancy comfort food. A little southern, a little French. Service here was friendly, polite, very caring. The place is small so make reservations. Also, parking can be challenging because Bluegrass is in a neighborhood area, and the side streets are narrow. If you don't mind walking a ways, that will help you expand your parking search.
The duck was delicious, perfectly cooked with delicious crispy skin. The crab + artichoke dip was good too, could have used just a touch more crab. The staff were very knowledgable, both about the food menu and the extensive whiskey/whisky/bourbon list. We also loved that they had a great selection of local beers. We would absolutely recommend this place and we will definitely be back.
This is a very cute restaurant. The BBQ Shrimp over bisquits was delicious. We also had a great burger and macaroni and cheese with crawfish. I'll definatley be back. I want to try more dishes. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
The waiter told us that because it was Sunday, the restaurant was out of a lot of the dishes and any dish with crawfish, they could still do sans the crawfish because they were out. It tells us that they are only using fresh ingredients, but it was disappointing because my first and second choices were not available. I settled on the jambalaya because the waiter said there weren't bell peppers in it, but when it came it out it did have bell peppers. The best food was the appetizer we ordered: the crab and artichoke dip. My husband also enjoyed his smoked fried chicken. The cocktails we ordered were delicious and refreshing. I would give Bluegrass another try, but not on a Sunday.
Second time here and I came for the Smoked Fried Chicken (again) - and will probably do the same every time I'm in Baltimore from now on. Sooooo good.
The service was super slow and the food was not so good
This place is a real gem. Great brunch menu (had the shrimp and grits which were really good). If going for dinner check the menu on-line as it changes by season. Very friendly and attentive wait staff. Would definitely recommend this place.
The Bluegrass Tavern is one of our favorite restaurants. Fit for foodies such as us and also features outstanding comfort food. Their Brussels sprouts are the best in Baltimore. Same with their shrimp and grits. Outstanding smoked fried chicken with potato salad and pickled vegetables. Our waiter/bartender Matt always makes us feel at home - and makes excellent martinis.
It wasn't amazing, but I would go back. The hush puppies and the sauce was really good. I had the duck and it tasted more like chicken. It was still good, just didn't have that game taste like duck usually has.
Went for brunch last Sunday. Food was good -- large portions. We could have shared one and gotten an appetizer (we ordered the burger and eggs Benedict.) The wide windows made us feel like we were dining outside although we were still inside without the wind. Very nice experience.
Unfortunately, the service was extremely poor. From waiting at the front door for 15 minutes until someone even acknowledged my presence, to never getting drinks, getting cold food, and having to physically hunt someone down to pay after 45 minutes of waiting after finishing the plate, there are enough reasons not to return.
We waited more than 45 minutes for our order and they were cold and extra greasy. Our waiter ignored us and did not even check on us once. Would not recomend to anyone who values their time.
good deal w/ $12 bottomless mimosas, other drink options as well. the food was amazing! everything was hot, fresh, flavorful and delicious! will definitely be going here again. our server was very helpful in meal suggestions as well....knowledgeable and friendly. i always feel bad asking for split checks because I know it is a pain, but our server was great about it and had no problem obliging.
Great food and service!! Our waiter recommended a few dishes that we tried and all were spectacular.
Nice menu. Well executed.
I got the smoked fried chicken and my friend got the hot fried chicken. She said hers was spicy, but all heat and not much flavor. Also, the sauce on hers was very oily. The mashed potatoes and gravy were really good and my dish was served with a heap of roasted Brussels sprouts.
Food was decent, wanted a southern spin on crab cakes since I was in Baltimore. However overall the 13 guest in my party enjoyed their food!
