We were running late for our reservation but let the restaurant know we were on our way by replying to the text messages. When we finally got there, the host and hostess were rude saying we didn’t contact them about being late so they were still going to seat us but we had to leave in 90 minutes. I told them I did text back which they then checked. But when they saw that I did answer back they didn’t say anything, just seated us at the table right behind the register.
Our server, Takashi W, however, was very professional and the food was good, almost making up for the unpleasant experience.
I don’t make it a habit of being late for my reservations, or provide lame excuses for being late. I do my part and expect to be treated like every other customer.
I’ve had better sushi when ordering $10/$15 lunch specials in NYC. Hopefully this is just a supply chain issue and the prices they charge are based on more than marketing and location. Do NOT order the Blue Ribbon roll with the lobster (not sure if that’s the exact name. It’s ~$32.) Nowhere near the quality or taste needed for that price.
Our waitress was great.
great sushi place especially if you prefer ordering ala carte. Huge comfortable room with lots of booths. Every morsel delicious.
Good as usual. Very dependable
The food was absolutely terrible. Never eaten worse sushi in my life. Blue Ribbon used to be one of my favorite places prior to the pandemic. After last week’s awful experience, never coming back there. Order 7 things off the menu and all of them were awful.
Food was excellent- they were out of a lot of items which was unusual for a Tuesday
Service was great and the food we ordered was great
Food was amazing, the fried chicken wings apps are to die for with the honey wasabi sauce, but needs a little more wasabi in my opinion. The drinks needs to be a little stronger to much on the sweeter side, but overall everything was fantastic
Every dish served was phenomenal as well as the service. Really blown away by this place.
Excellent sushi and fried chicken. Still committed to COVID precautions.
Sushi and cocktail were subpar for its price. Cocktails were prebatched
Great restaurant, excellent food n service.
The only downside to this wonderful restaurant are the steep stairs to climb to the upstairs dining room. Although we discovered afterwards that there is elevator access through the adjacent Allen Hotel on the backside of the restaurant.
As far as food and service, both were excellent. I especially enjoyed the Miso Black Cod which was so tasty and incredibly flaky. The spider roll, lobster roll and shrimp with tempura flakes were equally good. The restaurant offers a great dessert selection but I want to make special mention to the chocolate cake which tasted of hazelnut and was creamy beyond words. The creme brulee, green tea ice cream and sorbets were also tasty. The restaurant offers a nice Sake selection as well.
I love Blue Ribbon, always exceptional food and service
Service is very good, can be subtlety less rushed, but overall a great experience; great fish quality, it is a high price menu restaurant and the sought after Otoro is overpriced. It is a great experience for a special occasion.
Blue ribbon izajaya is one of my favorite restaurants. Always they gave us great food and amazing service.
Amazing food and atmosphere! Highly recommend!
We enjoyed our dinner very much. The sushi were very fresh and excellent. The rolls were not as good,a lot of rice not much fish and taste.
Service was friendly and efficient. Overall enjoyable.
Great ambiance and authentic food!
We arrived at 5:30 do it was basically empty, but the servers were attentive and eager to please. The food was delicious and served promptly. It’s definitely expensive, but worth it. Great place for date night.
Food and service were outstanding!
Wonderful food and service. Restrooms were disgusting.
Place looks really run down. Furniture is scratched and worn food was good but nothing special. There were a few flies buzzing around which I didn’t like much
Omakase was terrific as well as staff.
Still great even in menu is slightly smaller now. Service was awesome. Very dependable, was able to satisfy kids and adults and allergies.
Good sushi to long menu. Great location
Descent food and drinks, great ambiance and service. Will definitely go back
Great food. Wonderful outdoor dining area (on 3rd floor above the NYC hubbub).
Blue Ribbon has excellent good, wonderful, kind, and professional servers and they ALWAYS take care of us when we go. We celebrate all our personal landmarks and important moments with me and will always keep coming back.
Service was top-notch. Prompt and helpful. We were each given a scrumptious small appetizer to start (no charge). And a free dessert for us to share—- Bruno chocolate cake! Food (sushi and sashimi and rolls) was exceptionally good.
Background music was today’s but not too intrusive. Impressive sushi bar with 5 chefs. Atmosphere in larger room was welcoming if a bit dark. Large outside seating area on second level overlooks street but we much preferred the indoor dining areas. We will definitely return. And soon!
Didn’t go for the sushi but for the bone marrow and oxtail rice, I would say it was totally overpriced and the bone barrow came in chunks which I have never seen before, I asked for uni shots and they didn’t have egg yolk, then I asked for tuna otoro, didn’t have that either, these are basic things needed in a sushi restaurant. Overall I thought everything was super overpriced the dishes are really small, we got octopus and dumplings and it was tiny. I will not go back
Food was very small portion and very expensive ,however food was hot and service was great it was just not worth 230 dollars to still go home hungry drink was mediocre for 17 dollars not what I expected at all
Expensive.. Just OK..
Great food and service was very good despite the short staff. The bone marrow fried rice is out of this world. Wish the music wasn’t quite so loud - it makes conversation almost impossible.
Great ambiance. Our service was top notch. Sushi was amazing and very high quality. Very nice drink selection as well.
Few of the items we ordered never came. One of the item they forgot to serve, they never placed the order in the kitchen and we had to keep asking about it for multiple times until it got served.
Blue ribbon has lost it, gone too main stream. Service was mediocre, menu was out of too many items, and the food was good but nothing to write home about. The price was expensive. There are better options these days.
There are various parts of the restaurant you can be served in. the inside is the most attractive Blue Ribbon sushi I've been to in Manhattan (midtown and soho being the others). and there are two different outdoor spaces: one along a balcony and the other on an exterior patio. I wasn't picky because I got the reservation the night before for prime hours of 7:30 on a Friday night, but not a fan of that patio. They had fans going, but it was hotter there than on the street. Also the furniture wasn't nice - it's really just COVID make-do type hard uncomfortable cheap furniture. That space wasn't designed to be part of the restaurant. So, points off for that. I'd go back - the service and the food was on point, just I'd make sure to be inside. Though honestly, it sounded pretty loud inside, so I'd also figure out another time to go.
One of the best Japanese menus for food and drink. great staff and attentive waiters
It was very good dinner and we had very good time. Every thing we ordered were delicious!!
