Blue Heron Steakhouse
The Blue Heron Steakhouse is located in the thriving historic Jefferson Street corridor. We offer an excellent menu with steakhouse classics and modern Southern fare with specialties such as fresh oysters, the finest cuts of beef, shrimp and grits and more. Our restaurant started as a hand-crafted cocktail bar and consumer demand made it obvious that we needed to expand to a full-service kitchen. The Blue Heron is situated in a renovated home with exposed brick, a beautiful, locally crafted chandelier, a roaring two-sided fireplace in the colder months. Locally owned and loaded with character, The Blue Heron is a perfect setting for an intimate date, an evening with friends or simply a casual dinner while watching the game.

Lamb chops and tenderloin excellent. Bourbon flight awesome. Cheese cake very good. Service impeccable!!
Went for restaurant week and enjoyed a fantastic dinner. All ordered the steak special except one ordered the shrimp and grits off the regular menu. Everything was excellent. Chef prepared our steak perfectly and my wife who had the shrimp and grits cleaned her plate. That never happens. Our server was top shelf.
Love the ambiance of place and a great meal. Only disappointment was size of Margarita for price. The half lime presentation in tumbler glass took up liquor space.
Restaurant Week portions were tiny. Chicken was under cooked
Multiple items forgotten.
I can't tell the staff how much I appreciate how they treated my parents for their 50th Anniversary. Wonderful
Food and service were exceptional. We came because of Lexington Restaurant Week, but will return because we enjoyed ourselves and the meal!
Great place to celebrate a birthday!
Our server was awesome, sorry can’t remember his name….
The food, as always was tasty and just an all around great place.
If you meet the owner, you will see the pride he takes in the restaurant and customer care.
I cannot judge this visit
We've been here many times and have never had a bad meal
Had a great time! Our server was fantastic and our meals were even better. Both of our steaks we said were probably the best steak we had ever eaten. The cheesecake for dessert was amazing as well. Will definitely be back.
I attempted to make our reservations on Open Table 2 days prior for a party of 10 arriving at 5PM. The site said I could only make reservations for 5 people but when I tried that, it only allowed me to make reservations for 4. Five to ten minutes later, another member of our party made an additional reservation & was allowed to book a party of 6 at 5PM. Odd but we had reservations for 10 & all was well.
When we arrived, there were very few people there not a special request for that particular table, just “a later reservation”. We visited back & forth to each other’s tables throughout dinner & by the time we left no one had ever sat at the table beside mine.
The food & service otherwise was very good, albeit overpriced, but we did not at all appreciate how we had been treated & none of us will be going back.
Dining area was extremely loud; music was at a level that conversation was difficult. Food was very good but service was somewhat slow. Normally long dinners are not a concern but with the chaotic environment, it made the experience less than enjoyable.
Wonderful food and our waitress is awesome. Always a great experience.
Restaurant was pretty busy. We had a reservation. Very apparent that the restaurant and staff were overwhelmed. My steak was overcooked, by A LOT (ordered medium rare, steak was cooked well). Our waitress (very nice and polite) was busy running all over the restaurant, we had a hard time flagging her down to even let her know my steak was overdone. She admitted that the kitchen was very overwhelmed. She offered to get me a new steak, however, at that point we were ready to go. Also, if a steak house restaurant kitchen cooks/chefs, are overwhelmed to the point of over cooking steaks, why risk it again?!?! But, our waitress was very kind and great. We have been to this restaurant before, and never received steaks over cooked, so we just chalked it up to a "Bad night" for the cooks.
Every aspect of this restaurant is on point and well worth the experience, a wonderful staff as well as ambience to match.
Better on busy nights
Great food. Excellent food. Didn’t receive what was ordered. Excessively Noisy due to load groups. Left early due to noise.
We had a great experience last night - our first time back since Covid shutdown (we'd ordered one takeout meal from there during Covid but this was our first time eating in). I ordered a martini, which was not nearly cold enough and had too much vermouth, and our waiter happily exchanged it for a "Lexington Lilly", which was WONDERFUL. We enjoyed every aspect of our meal, from wines to entrees (too full for dessert): i had an entree size shrimp and grits with a side (special that night) of sugar snap peas+oyster mushrooms+ shiitakes: very good; my husband and his cousin, who was visiting from out of town, both had the filet, each asking for a very specific (and different) level of doneness and the chef got them exactly right - and the meat was delicious. I believe our waiter's name was Daryl: he was *fantastic*. All in all, a really great welcome back (complete with owner/manager stopping by our table for a nice conversation.
Delicious food and great wait staff. A little stingy on the shrimp in the shrimp n grits- only 3 shrimp in the appetizer and for such a huge plate, not to mention the price, they could throw more in there. It is, after all, not just grits or grits and shrimp- it's shrimp and grits. Aside from that, everything was tasty and served with a smile.
The Blue Heron is known for its steaks and we were not disappointed. We ordered the Ribeye and the New York Strip. Both were prepared to perfection! Our waiter, David, was excellent! We for sure will return to the Blue Heron at some point in the future.
We always enjoy the food and service at the Blue Herin!!
Meal was amazing and the patio is fab!
Portion a little smaller than usual and not hot from the kitchen per usual but otherwise everything was good.
The evening started out great with onion ring appetizers that were delicious. It went downhill from there. Took over 50 minutes to get our entrees and then it was wrong. Our waiter was great, he tried really hard to make us happy but the things that went wrong were out of his control. The manager was very apologetic about the awful experience we had. We will try it again, after staffing at restaurant is back to normal.
The service was excellent! I expected higher end presentation- I ordered the bacon, tomato & onion appetizer which sounded amazing. The delivery was actually sliced tomatoes alternated with 1/2thick raw white onion two thick pieces of bacon! The tomatoes were delicious. The onions were inedible.
Given the prices I expected more refined presentations & seasoning.
Our table order 2 seafood entrees- steak & fries- wedge salad and spinach salad with shrimp. Taste was ok! Descriptions on menu sounded amazing. It’s minor things in execution!
Excellent food and service. I love this restaurant.
The meal and service were perfect from beginning to the last bite. Friendly and knowledgeable staff
Fantastic food. Great service. Will continue to go back for dinners. Great place to take out of town guests.
Excellent preparation and presentation, great service, excellent bar, and cozy surroundings.
The entire experience was fantastic. Great value and exceptional service.
Always a fantastic experience. Amazing atmosphere, delicious filets, perfect service. It’s the best.
Table of four, all had a great meal. The halibut special and the ribeye were exceptional. Great drinks and excellent service
This was our second trip to Blue Heron. They have added a beautiful covered patio that has a great ambiance. The food was outstanding and the service perfect. This restaurant is truly one of Lexington's hidden gems and I highly recommend it!
The food was lacking seasoning in every dish that we ordered. We ordered the filet and the shrimp and clam pasta special along the Louisiana style grilled oysters. The oysters came out with what looked like a slice of cheese that was melted on top of them all of which were essentially flavorless. The pasta was supposed to have a pistachio and cilantro pesto, which amounted to cilantro and oil but there was no trace of salt or pepper overall the dish was bland. The clams and the shrimp were cooked well but that was the only redeeming factor. The Filet was cooked well but lacked any seasoning what so ever, I added salt and pepper to make it palatable. Overall, the best thing about the meal was the baked potato and the blue cheese stuffed olives in my martini. We had not been to Blue Heron for awhile and there is not a need to go back.
Haley delivered absolutely exceptional service to an awesome meal experience. The food and drinks were amazing and we can't wait to come back to try more menu items. Will ask for Haley every time...
excellent service, delicious food and pleasant evening. Will be back soon
Food and drinks were excellent. The bartender and waitress were outstanding and super knowledgeable about food and drinks particularly bourbon and whiskey. Would highly recommend.
Amazing as always. Excellent service and food
