The service was great, but I was disappointed with the shrimp and grits. I tried them before on a previous visit and thought it was the tomato sauce that made them watery, so I asked for less of it. The consistency of the grits was watery and clumpy. Grits is such an easy thing to make, I don't get it!
Otherwise, the flavor was great, but I won't try that dish again.
The food was great and the restaurant is beautiful. Our service was quite slow, we sat waiting for the check for about 15 minutes even after having our food boxed and making it clear we were ready to go.
Fabulous experience and the food was exceptional. The decor is absolutely stunning.
I had been to Blue Door a few times for dinner and this was my first time going there for brunch. I would call their brunch average at best. It's a bit more pricey than the typical brunch place, and for the extra cost, I would expect a lot more in terms of quantity and/or quality. Instead I ended up with a small omelet (which was fine but hardly exceptional) and tiny side salad. The interior is quaint and homey so I guess you are paying more for the ambience.
Great food, lovely ambience. Love the small venue and smaller menu. We’ll be back!
Service was fast. Food was amazing!!! Will definitely come back next time and recommend to friends and family 😊
Enjoyed our date night, it was relaxing. Food and service were great.
Unfortunately, my dining experience at Blue Door was awful. Service was terrible. The food took over an hour and a half to arrive, and during that time we saw our waiter twice - once to take the order. I was at the restaurant for 3 hours and was never offered a refill on coffee or water - we had to ask each time by waiving the hostess down. The ambiance is great and the food was amazing, but they need to hire more servers to wait the tables.
New years day lunch.... our first time at Blue Door... we will be back... intimate place for a couple to enjoy together...
Excellent dinner. Our server was very knowledgeable about gluten free choices. Shrimp and Grits, Pot Pie deviled eggs and fried chicken all fantastic!
Though a limited menu each item the four of us ordered was very good. We were not rushed through the meal, very conversation-friendly. Drinks may be a little on the pricey side.
Quaint space, excellent food!!
This was our second visit here, this time we were celebrating our daughter’s engagement. Everything was so delicious, we love the ambiance here and the wait service is always professional, friendly and excellent.
Amazing atmosphere and food!
We love the Blue Door restaurant.
First time and was pleasantly surprised. Nice menu and well prepared dishes. Good wines. I will go back. May re-rate higher if as good as this time.
I came here with my family from out of town. Everything was great. The service, food, and drinks are top notch!
We had the scallops for appetizer and ordered the shrimp and grits (delish), fried chicken (also delish), and the squash soup (double delish)
Ask for Ian or Gio, they definitely took care of us!
Beautifully decorated for the Holidays.
Have been to the Blue Door a few times for dinner. This was the first time for brunch. Menu was good, price was good. A bit too busy and noisy for me at brunch.
Great neighborhood spot that doesn't seem too fussy or over the top. The food is delicious and the entree portions are substantial. Everything seemed fresh and well prepared. I will definitely be back.
Great cozy restaurant. Wines and cocktails are a little expensive, otherwise is was a great experience.
Beautiful ambiance, very romantic, With the waiters' calm and sweet attitudes and the upstairs back corner table we were seated (it gave us a bit of privacy) my family had the most relaxing lunch!
My friends & I had a Sunday 11:45 reservation. We arrived right before noon (we had driven from 1hr 45 min away), but they accommodated us. I do think they allow a 15-minute window. We were seated in the upstairs dining room which was beautifully decorated with antique pieces and felt like someone's European living room. I appreciated that the room felt inviting and was a great noise level: not too quiet but not quite as loud as downstairs. We ordered the blueberry cinnamon roll, I had the chicken & waffles, and my friends had the chicken, gravy & biscuit and the chicken sandwich. I appreciated that the waitress (I forget her name. It may have started with a "C" and was foreign sounding) asked if we wanted the roll prior to or during our main dishes. Our food arrived in a timely manner & was warm. I loved the crunchy, flavorful chicken which was also juicy (3 pieces) and the slightly sweet waffle with the delicious & unique rosemary maple syrup which complimented the dish with a savory but sweet element. I also appreciated that water was at the table to serve yourself, but would have appreciated having a carafe refill. To be fair our waitress would come by and ask if we needed anything and I didn't mention the water. The only thing that was a disappointment was that when my chicken & waffles was bagged up to-go that the syrup wasn't included as well. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that until I got home. I should've made a point to ask, but I assumed that this type of establishment would know to include that in a container as well. Otherwise it was an overall positive experience with ambiance, décor, service, and food.
Fantastic restaurant. Great portions of delicious food.
Amazing food and service was impeccable!
Not enough entree choices and all were very heavy
Cant stop thinking about the macaroni and cheese or the cocktails.
Cant wait to go back and experience the outdoor space.
This is not a restaurant for children.
Good Never ate there before and was pleasantly surprised
Service was not friendly or inviting. Out of the drink I wanted, Prosecco, out of 3 of the main menu choices and two of the only four dessert choices.
We all had the fried chicken which was great but the Hummingbird cake while good was not moist.
This is a very lovely restaurant that has a cozy, intimate feel to it. I was a little disappointed by the limited lunch menu. Appetizers seemed a bit steep in price, the salad choices not very interesting. My garden salad was quite bland --a better choice would have been mixed field greens and romaine instead of what was offered. No kick to the dressing. My friend had the chicken sandwich which was outstanding--worth a return trip just to order this again!
Great food in a comfortable and energetic atmosphere. Very friendly wait staff.
Food was a bit bland. Not fond of the shrimp and grits, too much tomato sauce. Fried chicken and waffles was good
Our go to in the neighborhood. The outdoor patio is excellent, and the indoor dining is also very comfortable. We’ve never had a bad meal here, everything is fresh and delicious. We also brought our parents there to meet for the first time on a different occasion and had an awesome time too, we have some picky eaters/eaters with allergies and they were all fine
As a visitor to Chicago - and a HUGE fan of Chef Art Smith - we've been to Blue Door Kitchen for dinner before and couldn't say a word bad about it! This time we went to brunch and again, were not disappointed. The fried chicken sandwich with pimiento cheese was sublime! The rest of our party also enjoyed their entrees. An all around fantastic experience!
The chicken sandwich and Hummingbird cake are to die for
We visit Blue Door because it was well known as Art Smith's Chicago restaurant and was within walking distance from our Michigan Ave hotel. It's a fairly small dining room, but I understand in warmer weather there is an outside patio we could not see. The menu is quite small, with not a whole lot to pick from. I am somewhat of a picky eater, due to stomach issues, so looked over the menu carefully upon arrival. My husband picked the fried chicken. I ended up with a specialty salad with a grilled piece of salmon on top of it. Although I was initially disappointed in the lack of choices available to me, the salad and the salmon were excellent, as was my husband's chicken. Our disappointment with the restaurant turned out to be our waiter. He was lackluster and in a hurry. Within two minutes of being seated, he wanted our drink order. We hadn't even had a chance to peruse their specialty cocktail menu yet, all named after To Kill A Mockingbird theme, or wine list. He was not much of a salesman for the menu. There was no description of anything from him. It's like he expected it to sell itself and that was that. So, we asked a lot of questions. Sides are sharable and we picked the macaroni and cheese (excellent) and the cornbread (also excellent.) However, it became apparent after our meals arrived and then the mac and cheese, that our cornbread was not coming. (Delivered by some other than the waiter.) Five minutes into our meal, our waiter checked in and we asked where the cornbread was. "Oh!" he said. He quickly placed the order and it took another 5-10 to receive it. We passed on dessert, but the hummingbird cake was intriguing looking when it passed by to another table. Once again, no "let me tell you about our great desserts" technique from our waiter.
Wonderful lunch with my sister and niece. Food and cocktails were outstanding. Definitely will go back next time we are in town
Perfection! Exactly what you want. Simply order the fried chicken, cornbread and a slice of cake. Service was on par and drinks were tasty.
