Our bartender was awesome! Eduardo was the best!!!
Beautiful restaurant. Great wine list! Excellent food. Made a very special evening with old friends while on an overnight in St. Louis.
Patrick was a fantastic server. He was very knowledgeable and recommended an entree based on my degree of hungry. He was also extremely careful to make sure that my husband’s dairy allergy. I have nothing but good things to say about Blood & Sand. I hadn’t dined here in 3 years and it’s still top notch just like I remember.
We will definitely be returning next time we visit STL. Cocktails and food were perfect!
Very expensive for the small portions and small drinks. Good food and good drinks but seriously overpriced not a good value at all!
We love this place! When my wife and I get a chance to have a nice date, we love to go to Blood & Sand. Every piece of food, every cocktail is top notch.
Because of their focus on cocktails, this is one of the few places where I ask things like, "Make me something good with Mezcal as the base spirit. Surprise me!" And, of course, they come back with something amazing.
Blood & Sand has the dubious distinction of providing the single worst service I have ever encountered in approximately 20 years of fine dining.
To begin with, the cocktail menu on their website states, “Our bartenders are happy to make you a custom, off-menu cocktail!” As I discovered, that is simply not true. I asked our server if the bartender could create me a slightly sweet, cherry-based cocktail, envisioning something like a cherry amaretto sidecar. To my amazement, the bartender came out to our table to indignantly inform our entire party that he did not have the ingredients to make “sweet” drinks like Sex on the Beach and to select a drink from the menu instead. I did not mind selecting a drink from the menu, but what I *did* mind was his condescending attitude and pretentiousness: he acted like I was a drunk sorority girl incapable of appreciating craft cocktails rather than a 50-year-old physician requesting a custom pre-dinner cocktail.
When it came to ordering food, our server (Bea) informed us that the kitchen only had 4 orders left of the tortellini & the pork belly. This was fairly surprising as our reservations were at 6:15 on a Monday night.
We wound up being a party of 8, with 3 of us arriving first, followed by 5 others about 30” later. We asked if we could have 2 checks—1 for the first 3 and one for the second 5–as we ordered separately. You would think we were asking our server to donate a kidney. She haughtily informed us that we should have seen their policy of no split checks for parties of 6 or more when we made the reservation on Open Table. I never did, however, because Blood and Sand will not even accept reservations for parties larger than 4 people on Open Table, nor did anyone mention this policy when I called. Ultimately the manager agreed to do 2 checks, though it was clear he viewed this as an imposition.
Bottom line: the drinks are exquisite, the food is decent but overpriced, & the service is abysmal.
Worst exp in a while, took 23 min to get a waiter, another 10 min to get a drink. Only six tables were in the whole place. So it wasn’t busy at all.
Left a yelp review
Firstly, the menu was not what was on-line, otherwise I would not have chosen the restaurant.
We arrived and were surprised that 1) the place was relatively vacant of patrons at 7pm on A Friday and 2) menu had no steak/beef on it, nor anything similar to what was listed on-line when we booked. The staff was courteous but unapologetic about this change and stated that there was a "new chef" and nothing was available from the old menu. We made it clear to the server that we were surprised and ordered our drinks.
After contemplating the menu but opting for none of the 5 available main courses, the server suggested that we order a couple of the appetizers so that we did not leave on an empty stomach. We politely declined and had our cocktails. The bill was presented and not even a suggestion of being sorry (e.g., manager visit to table, etc.) or offering a discount was made. We wish them good luck with the new chef and menu.
We had a great experience overall. Tots and Gnocchi were delicious. The scallops need something added to their dish to justify the price. The halibut was cooked to perfection, but lacked excitement. The butternut squash purée somewhat made up for it. I caution this restaurant to not fall down the hole of over priced small portioned food. People will lose interest despite how good the quality is. I’ve seen it a thousand times.
The flavors were outstanding. We tried the new pork belly dish. I'm assuming it was prepared using sous vide then finished off on the grill or in the oven. Since it was such a meaty belly it could have used another hour or so of cooking. The texture was closer to a pork chop. While the flavor was great it did not have the melt in the mouth quality that I was expecting.
Celebrating a special occasion and chose B&S because I am a previous member and familiar with its exclusivity. Dining in a peaceful, semi-provate atmosphere with great cocktails & delicious food was the reason I selected B&S.
The mushroom dish was ok, more spicy than I prefer but not bad. The gnocchi lacked flavor but the trout was delicoous. Truffle tots are a great tasty starter. The bartender whipped up a.apwcial aviation that I enjoyed. B assuming the private dining experience is to blame.
It was overall a decent time.
My first experience at Blood and Sand was excellent. The food was delicious. Unique menu with several options. We had the lobster rangoon as a starter and then the scallops, which were amazing. The music was too loud when we got there, but was turned down when we asked it to be. Highly recommend.
If you’re into food and cocktails, this is the place for you! I tried a cocktail that I normally would never have and was completely thrilled with it. The food was delicious, the atmosphere is absolutely lovely.
We rarely revisit restaurants in Saint Louis because there are too many new ones we want to try.
Blood and Sand demands revisiting!
I'm sure their menu is in constant flux but we were oh, so pleased that on our second trip the fried oysters were still on it.
Our first trip we got the same order, which I think was three, don't make that mistake! You have to get at least 6 of them. Having grown up in the Seattle area, I know a good fried oyster and can say I've never had better.
Ask for the off menu tater tots...again you will not be disappointed. You'll get a hearty serving of these small, delicate little gems. Nothing like the tater tots of your youth.
The wait-staff is educated and knows what pairs best with their menu items.
The atmosphere is quiet and inviting with a feeling of Victorian charm in a warm, rather modern space. It's really relaxing and just a great place to be.
When you drive up you'll think you're in the wrong place but give your keys to the valet, enter through the nondescript rotating door seen in the high-rises of Manhattan and be ready for an excellent meal, accompanied by great service and fabulous staff.
Absolutely wonderful, we loved the pork dish and the strawberry shortcake was amazing. Thank you, we are already looking forward to our next dinner.
Excellent cocktails. We each only had one but I’d go back just to try more of their craft cocktails. Our food was very good, but don’t expect anything to be one of the best (fill in the blank with whatever you order) you’ve had. Service was satisfactory. On top of everything else being above average, the ambiance is what is most deserving of the menu pricing. We had a wonderful time and would definitely return on another occasion.
The menu was simple and very interesting. Everything was cooked perfectly and each dish was well thought out in every aspect. The the cocktails we tried were also very good and unique. If I didn’t have a 1 year old who was crazy at restaurants I’d be coming here regularly
Food was great but it took way too long to get our dinner kitchen needs to work on timing.
This was a surprise for me. Whenever I’ve come to Blood and Sand I’ve always been absolutely blown away by the exemplary service and the amazing food. This time, not so much. The waitress, whom I don’t recall ever seeing or having in the past, was subpar at best. She appeared to be waiting in every other table except ours. There were only about 5 total tables that were occupied as far as I could tell, so it shouldn’t have been that difficult to be attentive. The waitress also has this snotty, smug undertone to her voice that made it extremely difficult to tolerate her presence. I don’t know her name, but she had long blond hair pulled back into a ponytail and seemed like she played World of Warcraft in her spare time. Our food, including our one drink and one appetizer, took about 30 minutes to get. Then, the actual entrees took about an hour. Not sure we’ll be back if this waitress is working that night.
Great experience overall. A little on the pricier side as my wife’s margaritas were $24 a piece. It would have been nice to know that and may be our fault, we didn’t ask. We did however ask for “mid shelf” mezcal margaritas... top shelf be $30+ a piece ? This isn’t New York.
We got a nice spread of apps, entrees and even one dessert. (See photos)
Out of everything the steak was the least enjoyable and most expensive. The lobster Rangoon and gnocchi was delicious! We would possibly go again and order a bit less food and not inflate the bill so much by dropping $85 on 5 drinks.
I absolutely loved this place! There wasn't one thing they put down in front of us that we didn't LOVE. We tried 3 pastas, the Rangoon, the Deviled Eggs, the Tots- all were simply amazing and the best I've tried anywhere of those foods. Our service was impeccable! And the decor is very swank, music is great but not too loud. I will definitely be back!
Had very enjoyable Easter brunch. Hope they consider adding more brunches in the future.
While the food was delicious and the drinks were inventive and very tasty, the prices were outrageous considering the very small portions. I spent close to $100 and didn't really leave full.
Went to celebrate a 50th birthday... great drinks, amazing food and awesome company. All in an awesome place.
Great Spot for a Date - Quite - Fantastic Food and Drink!!!
We had a wonderful first visit to Blood and Sand! All around great experience - the staff was so friendly and really made the night. As a birthday celebration, they brought over a special touch of champagne. The food was incredible, every single thing we tried. I would go back just for the drinks alone - refreshing, creative and delicious. Due to another engagement, we did not have time to stay for dessert but expect that would have been amazing as well. We returned back at the end of the night for a nightcap and had such a great time at the bar. Top notch experience in every way - definitely will be back as soon as possible! Jennifer
The bartender suggested the only tequila that you carry be served straight up. I like it on ice with a wedge lime juice. I went with his suggestion. When I ordered another with a wedge of lime, I was given the smallest imaginable slice that was impossible to squeeze. While I appreciate his interest in being a purest, unless he is paying for my drink, I want it as I want it.
Our waitress gave one of our orders to another table and then offered to remake it...but it was late. My entree was mediocre.
I am pretty flexible. I think that the vibe is great but I would suggest making customer service a top consideration. Just a suggestion.
Our restaurant strives to direct guests in directions maybe they have never been down. This seems to be the experience this evening in regards to the tequila. We are certainly sorry for the inconsistent presentation between the first time and the second time. In regards to the service that evening, I will personally discuss the experience with the server and ensure there is adequate continued training to remedy the situation. We hope you will give us another try and show you what we can do.
Sup-par food..... The menu is small and unfortunately not very good. My wine was good, but our meals weren't. Two of us had the pork steak. It lacked in flavor and texture. The pulled pork macaroni was better, but still nothing special.
We are so sorry you did not have the best experience at our establishment. We strive for excellence in all parts of our restaurant from the bar and wine program to the food and the atmosphere. Unfortunately, the issue with the food and the menu size was not brought the attention of Management. We encourage you to make another reservation and we will blow you away with your experience. We hope you are able to give us another chance.
The venue is really pretty and the concept is great. Exicution is terrible. I had ravioli that literally had two of the tiniest chunks of meat and nothing else. The waitress said oh that’s unfortunate, and left my dish in front of me. She did take it off the bill but no real concerns, no manager visit etc. the three I was with had the steak and the trout and none had any flavor at all! The server was scarce and not friendly. When she asked us if we wanted separate checks, we said yes, and she still brought it on one.
We are sorry to hear your experience at our establishment was not what is to be expected. I was the manager on the floor that evening. The issue with the Ravioli was brought to my attention and this is why it was taken off the bill after we were unable to convince you to try another dish. During the dining experience, however, it was not brought to my attention you were unhappy with anything else. If I would have been informed of any other things unpleasing, I would have done my best to remedy.
Since I was not a member, I was seated in the bar area. The ambiance is comfortable and good for more sophisticated foodie friends or business clients. The noise level was quiet enough to have a long conversation. The bartender suggested items from the menu, and was very accommodating. (The bar menu may differ slightly from the dining area menu.) Service did not hover over your table and instead was observant. The food was quite rich, but flavorful. I'd probably come here again for a small plate and a glass of wine with friends on a Thursday or Friday happy hour.
Always a pleasant experience. Consistent high food quality. Excellent service. Beautiful atmosphere.
Great cocktails! Stuffed paiche was excellent, the veal ravioli- not so much.
Really good food ! I tried to winter gnocchi, tater tots and the Mac and cheese without any meat ! Drinks were great too.
One word - AMAZING!
Wonderful dinner with book club, we had a small private space off the main dining room - lovely! Terrific service and food, shared everything!
Fantastic. Food was great and Nick was a great server!
Splurge and spoil yourself it was a great experience.
Unusual menu items. The kangaroo was recommended. It was fabulous. It’s difficult to find. It is difficult to find as the entrance is from the alley. Service was excellent.
