Blink Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Tables were packed way, way to closely here at this loud, trendy, indie food stampede.
Our dinner turned into a rodeo.
Food is indeed good, no question, but overall Ten Foot expectations were met by One Foot delivery.
Extremely cramped, excitable, noisy. Share verbiage, spit, and frenzy with your festive neighbors flanked on every side.
Did not deliver.
Fine dinning is about creating new experiences and memories. That is the raison d'être for any "fine" restaurant. Unfortunately Blink failed by producing a negative experience and a so-so memory.
Like wine pairings, service and kitchen should work in harmony, an otherwise delicious plate or a good restaurant can be ruined by bad service.
This happened at Blink, the server was courteous and he seem experienced but unfortunately kept forgetting or mixing things up including the main dish. My wife and I were celebrating 12 years of marriage and rather than share a meal we end up eating at different times due to our server bringing pork rather than the ordered lamb. It can happen, we are all human and thanks for not having food taboos. But he also forgot to bring bread and ordering drinks required to "dial twice". Timing was almost to the point of beginning to wonder if they forgot about us.
Only a small "sorry" and here is the bill. In other times I would have called the manager but I did not want to ruin the occasion by righteously complaining. Hence, this our memory, not the monkfish or the lamb or the ambiance.
Here in Calgary, we have seen a rash of restaurant closings. Many issues including the "downturn", new taxes and higher wages have made the restauranteur business a lot more difficult. However, when a restaurant fails to accomplish their "raison d'être" then it has to withstand a lot more than the embattles of our ever changing economy.
Had a reservation for 6.30pm on a Saturday, we arrived at 6.25 and were told they were no tables, we were to wait at the bar until someone left. Ended up waiting for almost a full hour to be seated.
Full was ok, nothing spectacular and certainly was not worth an hour of my time. Didn’t even get a free desert or snack for the trouble.
I’d be hard pressed to go back.
My daughters and I attended a live performance downtown on Saturday and then met up with my husband for dinner afterwards. As usual it was great. We often go there before a downtown performance as Blink staff are efficient at ensuring that you are out in time to get to whatever venue you are going to. Provided you leave yourself at least an hour and a half you can enjoy a nice leisurely pre-performance dinner. The food is always delicious and nicely plated and the service very excellent. I would recommend Blink restaurant for any occasion either for a light meal or a hearty one. There is enough variety in the menu to suit most people I'd say and we will be definitely be back.
Service was terrible. We arrived at 5:30 in the middle of the week and we sat in what was a nearly empty restaurant for 10 minutes before our waiter said hello. I had wine by the glass, and my glass was empty for almost the entire meal. Once we were finished eating, our plates sat on the table for a good 10 minutes and only when they came to clear them did they ask if we wanted more to drink. We asked for a dessert list instead. That took a good 5 minutes to arrive. We choose a dessert, but with the restaurant being busy now, our waiter did not come around to ask what we wanted for a very long time. Finally, when we were able to get his attention, we told him we wanted the bill instead and he seemed surprised. I am glad I had cash to pay as I can’t imagine how long it would have taken him to come with a machine (we had been there for 1.5 hours already). One star for "Service" is far too high...we will not go back
The Food was absolutely amazing, it was very well prepared and cooked to perfection. The wine list is extensive and they offer very good parings of you can't decided for your self. The lighting is perfect for the mood, the desert was exquisite
The service was kind of slow at times and we were left waiting for sometimes but that being said we will be coming back for more the food was too good not to try again
I took my girlfriend to blink for a date and found the building to be unique and the food was fantastic but the one thing I didn’t like was how loud it was inside for it being a smaller place. It was hard to have a quiet conversation without raising my voice, this is also a catch because the tables are pretty close together so a private conversation is hard.
The food at Blink was excellent. However, our service was abysmal. Having served myself, I try to be understanding of the people who serve me. Our server seemed to just completely write us off, as we were perhaps, in her opinion, "too young" to be in such a fancy restaurant. She served us as if she expected us to be cheap and leave a poor tip, from the very beginning. We were there for over 2 hours. Tables in her section which were seated after us received service promptly, before we did. Not sure I would go back and have mentioned the poor service to friends and family.
This was a culinary adventure with fantastic and interesting dishes. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and very professional. We had made the reservation months in advance because we were a large party and we had requested a quieter table. They greeted us with confirmation and at the hostess desk personally and told us they have given us a private dining room to help with the noise. What a lovely accommodation. Every dish was beautifully prepared and presented. Our server helped us select the right wine and provided some tasting glasses to help us decide. An amazing experience and the perfect way to end our Canadian Rocky vacation adventure in Calgary ! Blink was memorable and not to be missed!
Appetizer was spoiled. Picked up by waitress with zero empathy or asking if it can be replaced. Parts of a dish missing, waitress shrugged shoulders and walked off. Mains took two hours to reach our table and were just so so. Disappointing all around from a proclaimed high end restaurant.
Service was great at Blink. We were catered to very promptly upon our arrival. Greeting from our waitress was very quick and the ordering process was informative and not rushed. Our plates arrived very quickly. My gf had ordered the duck which was delivered at a later time, but it was no problem as we were forewarned.
Overall, the food was very good along with the service. The only thing I would mention that may seem negative is the price. The fact this was a special occasion, it didn't bother me. But, be warned, the pricing is substantially high.
Enjoyable lunch with a nice atmosphere. Would come back. Had duck leg as main and it was perfectly cooked. Everyone had their plates polished at the end so I take that as a positive endorsement. The only word of caution is that the chocolate nugget on the tray holding down your bill is not chocolate, it's a stone. Do not put it in your mouth. Do not chew on it. Do not swallow it. Forewarned.
