A real shame to see it close - food, service, and ambience all consistently top notch! Not a lot of French bistros in the city anymore
Farewell meal at Bistrot Zinc - Their doors closed after Sunday brunch. This was a terrific go-to neighborhood restaurant. Food was consistently good, nice bar in addition to the restaurant, great for dinner as well as for Sunday brunch, friendly helpful staff and atmosphere. They will be missed!!!
Unfortunately I attended the last brunch at this beloved neighborhood eateries. The owners retired and despite our hopes it closed.
Farewell, Bistrot Zinc. Thank you for being sometimes luxurious and sometimes casual and always good to eat and drink.
Very sorry Bistrot Zinc is going out of business-- we will miss the great service, ambience and delicious food!
It is very sad that it has closed. The food was excellent. We had the best mussels ever!!!
We will miss your establishment dearly, it has been and always will be a neighborhood gem!
Unfortunately, Bistro Zinc's lease has expired and the owners have chosen neither to renew the lease nor relocate. We will miss it, as it's walking distance from our residence and an excellent establishment.
We're so sad to say goodbye to this wonderful restaurant! Everything about it is perfect, and it's a real neighborhood gem.
Love Bistro Zinc, so sad it’s closing. You will be missed!
Long a family favorite, Bistrot Zinc will be sorely missed when it closes next week. Thanks for so many wonderful meals in a welcoming space. One of our favorite traditions was eating at Bistrot Zinc on the day in November each year's Nouveau Beaujolais arrived.
So sad that this lovely bistro is closing soon.
We began dining at Zinc 11 years ago as tourists. Two years ago when we relocated to Chicago, we began dining there regularly - it is in our neighborhood. We have ever had bad food or poor service, and the decor is so very FRENCH. We love it and are mourning its closing! Our food - selected from the monthly specials was wonderful. Brunch was fabulous! We will return one last time on Sunday for the final brunch service. We have walked to Zinc in blizzards and are so sad we cannot do that again. Thank you for innumerable great evenings! Ron and Catherine Bevil
We arrived 10 mins before our reservation but were seated right away. Our server was pleasant but seemed hurried and that was understandable since the place was almost full and quite busy. The noise level was considerably loud especially when sitting next to a boisterous table of patrons.
Bread and water was served and refilled promptly when it was running low.
Our food portions were generous and tasted fair. The prices were inexpensive and very reasonable in my opinion.
Bistro Zinc is in a great neighborhood that's very trendy. The restaurant has a true bistro feel. The food was not creative but very good. That's not a bad thing. Our waiter provided great service. I would recommend Bistro Zinc to anyone for any occasion.
Bistrot Zinc will be greatly missed when they close their doors on August 26th. Casey and her staff have made this place more than just a restaurant; it has been like home to us and it will leave a void in the neighborhood as well as in our hearts. Au revoir my friends. xo
We are faithful repeat customers at Bistrot Zinc and truly mourn their closing. We’ve celebrated birthdays, graduations, anniversaries and engagements! It won’t be easy to find a place with the quality of food and service!
So sad to see this restaurant close. One of our Chicago FAVORITES!
All Good Things...
This the last month of operations for this great neighborhood French restaurant where a very good dinner can still be had for a reasonable price. Although my lentil and ginger soup was smooth and promptly served, I couldn’t discern any taste of ginger. My skate in brown butter and capers was cooked perfectly and my cauliflower side dish was very good, as was the butter served with the bread. A good glass of Sancerre with dinner, a glass of Sauternes for dessert and a tip brought the bill to $81. For an authentic French restaurant in Chicago, that is good! Sadly, the owner is retiring when his lease is up at the end of August.
So very sorry that this fine eating establishment is closing at the end of August. Always a memorable meal and evening!
I will miss this restaurant so much. Can’t believe they are closing.
So sad Bistro Zinc is closing, always a favorite. Need a French Bistro in my hood no more Italian!!!!
I have loved this place since it opened decades ago, and I lived in the neighborhood. My parents' ghosts are everywhere, pointing out yummy things to try on the menu. Since I moved away, it has been an integral part of my annual trek to Chicago. Alas, no more: Bistrot Zinc is set to close its doors at the end of August. I am beyond sad. The mussels have been consistently the best I've tasted anywhere in Europe and the Americas. The trout, the salmon, the chicken crepes, the stew of the day, the skate, the salads, the wine, the expresso, the DESSERTS - to go on just prolongs the agony of the loss. Farewell, BZ, you'll be sorely missed.
Outstanding restaurant — shutting down with the same kind of class as how it’s run! Good Luck to the owner and all her employees
Always a treat. Staff, food, ambience: the very best.
We are going to miss this restaurant, but fully understand why the owner is closing. Went for one last dinner with our favorites - salad Lyonnais, liver with mashed potatoes and profiteroles for dessert. Lots of good meals were eaten here over the past 20 years.
Amazing place, great food! We eat here often, especially when we have out of town visitors. Great location, the Owner is usually on site and very gracious.
Unfortunately Bistro Zinc, a neighborhood icon, will be closing in a matter of weeks. Go soon to enjoy an authentic Frdnch Bistro experience
i will be saddened when the restaurant sells and new owners take over. having eaten here for over a decade it’s like loosing a close friend.
For the first time in 20 years of going to BZ the server was extremely rude, purposefully inattentive, ignoring, and not knowledgeable of standard meal options. She decided we had sat ourselves in her section and it went downhill from there. In fact we asked for a specific section and the hostess indicated that would not be a problem and asked us to wait while they set the table for us. Apparently the waitress dud not like this and told the other hostess who in turn told us as we were leaving.
Overall a special occasion was ruined by a rude server!
Dan was an awesome waiter. We just found this incredible French bistro that will be closing at the end of August. We ate there two nights in a row as we are just visiting. You must eat here before they close. The skate was beyond delicious and ohhhh the Ratatouille!
The service, drinks , appetizers and dessert were an A+ but the entrees were beyond awful : coq au vin and roasted chicken . Both were beyond belief wrong - over cooked , not flavorful , not worthy of this great neighborhood place which closes at month end . I just picked at the roasted chicken , could not eat it but did not send it back since I didn’t want to interfere with an otherwise good experience . Not a great send off , I had planned to go one more time but will not bother . What a disappointment !!
Grown up says: Consistently excellent food, service and ambiance for Chicagoans in the know.
Child says: Best crepes and grilled cheese sandwiches in the world!
Very good bistro....it is closing the end of August 2018. We will miss going there.
going to really miss this place. It has been a go to place in the neighborhood
So sad that the restaurant will be closing in a few weeks. It is been our neighborhood place to go for many years.
We are so very sorry to learn that the owner is retiring and that Bistro Zinc will be closing later this summer.
So sad this neighborhood institution will be closing soon!
gone here a bunch of times over the years, food and service always consistent. It's a shame the restaurant will be closing at the end of August after such a long run. French Bistro dining is becoming rarer with more "yuppy/trendy/conceptual/hipster" places - good French/Alsatian comfort food is the best I think. Something for everyone - meat eaters, vegetarians too.
We've eaten at Bistro Zinc many times over the years, each time a true pleasure. This time was no exception. Very sad to hear they are soon to close.
