Varied and interesting menu with a strong component of “gourmet comfort food.” Top class ingredients, exquisitely prepared. Outstanding wine list. Service is amiable and attentive, but not too much. Warm and welcoming ambiance. A neighborhood gathering place. Dog friendly.
Bistro 60 is an amazing place to meet people and the chef/ owner Mark is a wonderful chef and friend. We moved to San Diego 5 years ago and was introduced to this place then we have been going ever since. We have made a lot of friends there.
It’s so unfortunate that he is closing the restaurant and bakery. We are surely going to miss it!
Well done Mark, well done! ❤️
I recommend this place the service, owner, entertainment, food and dessert are all wonderful. We went tonight with a party of 8 and everyone enjoyed their meal. We also order a chocolate bday cake that was the best cake I ever had. We will all be back soon. Thanks Bistro Sixty for making out night special
Seated right away, we ordered wine and each an appetizer. He a wedge salad, me the truffle fries. My truffle fries came, the wedge never did, but we didn't see much of the server, so didn't bother pointing it out [were not subsequently charged for it, so it was an oversight]. We each got the salmon and it was wonderful. Wow, what great flavor. Would definitely order it again. Took awhile to get the bill and then get it picked up/paid, but that was fine. We'll be back. Also, the chocolate bom, it was just that. YUM. I don't think you can do wrong with any of the desserts there though.
We had calamari, crab cake sliders, skirt steak, mushroom & sausage pasta, chicken cordon bleu, parmesan crusted halibut & chocolate bomb & everything was tasty. It was hard to enjoy the dinner due to how warm it was. We were all sweaty & uncomfortable. Also note that if like us, you check out the menu online before you go, it's outdated. So wait til u get there to see what they have. Parking is tough. They don't have a parking lot & neighboring businesses tow if you're not their customer. Live music was nice.
We love this place. Always great food, terrific wine selection, and excellent music on the patio.
First time that we’ve been then and we will definitely go there again soon! The food and the service was great!
Awesome. David, our waiter, gave us a taster to make sure the wine we chose was exactly what we wanted. We asked his opinion for the entree and he was spot on. We both enjoyed the Paella. It is not usually on the menu and was one of the two best I’d ever had. My sister in law’s came the closest. We shared a lovely dessert that David recommended after describing the many choices. All in all a lovely beginning to our evening at the Moxie Theater just a few blocks away.
Fabulous! Fablous! Fabulous! Gotta try their brunch. It's great!
Food is Excellent, Ambiance needs work, looks cheaply slapped together which kind of turned me off to the point where I was second guessing about whether to eat here.
This place has great food and great entertainment. I highly recommend checking this place out. I try to go on Monday nights to see Ria sing.
I expected a little more from Bistro Sixty on Mothers Day. The food was ok, food presentation needs work as well as the Bloody Mary’s I was a ok meal but in a city with lots of options I don’t think I’ll be back
Cute little place in the SDSU area. Went for brunch so it wasn't crowded. The food was good but our server was not the nicest person. Every time we asked for something she acted like we were putting her out. There was maybe 5 tables occupied so it was pretty quite. I would understand if she was really crazy busy but it wasn't. When we arrived we were seated at a high table & we asked if we could move to a low table that was more comfortable & she said "well, i don't know...we are fully booked." At that time there were only 2 tables occupied. Plenty of room for anyone that came in so i didn't see the problem but apparently she did. Then my daughter wanted a plain crepe with nothing on it & she said they couldn't do that because they had a set menu. There were crepes on the menu so that too shouldn't have been a problem but for her it certainly was so my daughter ended up ordering something else that she really didn't want. Based on this experience not sure we will go back. I will note that all the other staff was very nice. Our server needs more training for sure.
The first time the food was okay and atmosphere was nice. The second time we dined there will be the last. The entrees were over cooked. Chicken cordon Blue was tough, chewy. My husband asked for a medium burger; it was burnt. Carl's Jr. does a better job not burning burgers. The waiter was nice and personable and offered us a free dessert. Not compensation for an over priced meal. I was glad that there is a "bistro" near East County, but was sorely disappointed. Maybe the kitchen was overwhelmed, as they had a party of about 30.
I hesitate to write something since there is really nothing to recommend except for the earnestness of the owner and wait staff.
We enjoyed two amazing appetizers, the warm olives and the corn and avocado salad! As if that wasn’t enough my husbands stuffed trout with scallops and bacon was over the top! My mushroom ravioli was a good as O expected and I have plenty for another yummy meal! The wine and the service were perfect compliments to a wonderful evening!
The food was good, live music was very nice and still allowed for conversation. We were a large group and all our food came out at the same time. The bloody mary was not the best, but overall a good experience.
Excellent service, great brunch 👍
Awesome food and service ! Always a solid choice.
Exquisite food with beautiful presentation. The short ribs are like soul food. The golden beet salad was a wonderful surprise of flavors!
Our meals were very geasy, steak burger and scallops. Left feeling very disappointed and had an upset stomach from the oiliness.
One of my favorite local eateries. The food is great, the atmosphere casual and friendly. Music is good.
My friends B'Day and she wanted to go there. We loved the turkey burger and the salad that came with it plus a regular burger...we split the two for tasting purposes. Best Turkey burger I have ever tasted. The service was wonderful and the special deserts are fabulous. One would never imagine a place on a main street of El Cajon could turn out to be so great...I am craving that burger now and will return. Our waiter was amazing. Do nice and no rush!! Loved it!!!
Surprising hidden gem in east college neighborhood. Very friendly staff, lovely enclosed patio w/ heaters, seems to be popular with locals. We had burgers before a show at the Moxie, but they have dinner entrees too. Would recommend, nice experience overall.
Food was tasty and we loved our waiter, David. Would recommend the calamari and shrimp appetizer. Hard to tell about ambiance, there were only two other people there when we were.
This restaurant is almost there, but not quite. We sat at a tall table in the indoor patio area, where music was being set up & started half way through our dinner. The appetizer of the mac & cheese was VERY good, the fried green beans...meh. Three ordered various burgers and and I ordered the special veal parm. They all said the burgers were just OK, a bit salty and woudl likely not order again. The fries we not memorable and the onions rings while tasty, had half that were "real" onion rings and half that were a formed onion ring. The veal parm was not memorable and the cheesy polenta was gelatinous form on which the the veal parm sat. Had great expectations and hopes, but maybe it was an off day? at the end of the meal on the drive away, asked if we would go again? General reponse from the group was; "there are lots of other places to try".
We enjoyed an evening out with friends and saw some great music at bistro 60. The food was good. Our favorite part was the desert – their peanut butter bombe is the bomb.
Birthday brunch. Good food. Good Service. Nasty coffee.
Great place for brunch or dinner with a good wine list.
Came to eat before going to a concert at Viejas. Didn't know anything about it and was greatly surprised. The staff is wonderful and the wine list is huge. Best onion rings and my turkey burger was awesome. we even had live music.
The front inside of the restraunt was nice but the cupcake road to the restrooms could stand to be cleaner and more organized. The waiter we had would occasionally stop by and pick up one empty cup or dish at a time instead of clearing the tiny table we sat at.
All in all it has potential but needs some polishing up for sure.
Vocalist (Ria) highly recommended the food so we decided to check it out while she was there. We were not disappoint. Wonderful meal, pesonal service, very enjoyable evening. I'd go back if i lived here.
The old was very good. We were there on a Friday night when they have live music which was entertaining but not intrusive. Our server started out attentive, almost too attentive, but he faded as the meal continued to the point it was necessary to flag him down to get coffee and then the check.
First the address that Open Table took us to when looking for the restaurant within open Table's connection through Maps, was incorrect. Took us several turn arounds on busy el Cajon blvd before we actually located the restaurant using a call to the restaurant. The sign outside is small too which added to the difficulty in finding it.
Parking was tough too.
The wine we wanted from the wine list was not available. Several menu items were out of season.
I ended up having the Bistro burger which as a burger was very good. The bun was huge though and I had to put half of it aside. The side salad option was not a great choice for me. As a personal preference I do not like the salad chopped up in little pieces. It is difficult to pick up with a fork. My husband had the spinach salad which was not chopped in little pieces and he had the truffle fries. The ketchup we asked for was never brought.
So we left rather unsatisfied.
Had a table of 6 for a birthday party. Decor looks nice. Meal was expensive for the food quality.
Ordered the Calamari & Shrimps for appetizer, they were good, spicy, even though the breading was falling off the calamari.
Paid approx. $25 for the seared scallops in coconut milk with rice. Could not taste the coconut, sear on the scallops was not slightly crunchy because of amount of sauce on top of them, rice was mushy.
In-laws ordered the small plate crab cakes, which were good. Kids ordered pasta (baked Mc & Cheese, and Penne with mushrooms and sausages), kids liked it...
Wife ordered the Shepard's pie. Very hot plate (still bubbling), good flavor.
Finally, the live singer was great, we enjoyed the music.
Regarding the service, even though the waiter was coming frequently, he was not picking up empty dishes every time he left, so we ended up getting our entrees with the appetizer dishes still on the table. They did not have a printed menu of the desserts, so you have to stand up and go to the glass dessert tray to choose what you want.
Overall, little pricey for what the result was. Good ambiance.
One of our favorite places to eat in San Diego. Friendly staff, accommodating to special diets (gluten free) and most of all great food.
Friendly people and very helpful with parking. Food was fantastic. I was taking a college kid out for a quick bite. It was nice to connect with a home feel and really good food.
