My husband and I had lunch here twice. We enjoyed it. I had a friend from Georgia visiting because her father had surgery at VCU. Four college friends (age: early 50s) met for dinner. The service was horrible. Our waitress was a SNOB. I was embarrassed to have recommended Bistro Bobette to my friends. While in the restroom, I overheard foul language coming from the kitchen. The wait staff was ready for us to leave - I felt very uncomfortable as we were the last four people in the restaurant. We received dirty looks, and I told my friends we needed to vacate the premises. Upon returning home from my night out with friends, I told my husband I would not return to Bistro Bobette. I also apologized to my friends for recommending it. I’m not a complainer, but after my recent experience, I absolutely DO NOT recommend this restaurant.

It was a wonderfully delicious meal! Fabulous French cuisine and reasonable sized portions. It is too expensive for us to go there very often, but it was a lovely experience.

Slow service. Perfunctory, I would call it. Took forever to get our glasses of sparkling wine and the waitress seemed annoyed when I raised my hand to get her attention. I honestly thought she'd forgotten but she told me the bar was busy and yes, she'd bring it out soon. My escargot appetizer came to the table vigorously bubbling, then right after the waiter left, one of them exploded. Yes, exploded. Garlic-infused escargot butter and herb mess, all over the tablecloth and one of our water glasses. The server was kind of nonchalant and said she'd put another piece if bistro paper OVER the mess. I said how about not doing that, and I had to roll up the soiled paper myself and hand it to her. At this point, the manager should have come over, profusely apologized, and comped us something.... anything. Just the gesture would have sufficed. But nothing like that happened. The food was good. I had Monkfish and my wife had Trout. But it took forever to arrive. If not for the fact that we had struck up a conversation with the lady and her daughter sitting next to us, we would have been seriously bummed about the wait time. Dessert was good. Crème Brulee and Mousse. And the waitress wasn't surly or anything, but maybe she was overwhelmed... not sure really, but man I would have handled that escargot explosion in a totally different way.

The only thing keeping me from checking straight 5s on the review was the challenge that our (excellent) waitperson had in covering two stations plus seating people. He was excellent but seemed very rushed by all that was swirling around him. Perhaps one of the waitstaff was unexpectedly out?

My wife & I were there for Valentine's Day so I expected that it would be pretty busy and it certainly was. There is insufficient review space available to document the many things that went wrong on this trip. This was my first time to frequent this restaurant so I may need to visit again in order to assess it fairly. My initial impression was a very favorable one but things went downhill rather rapidly. The two biggest issues that I encountered on this trip was that 1) a large party was seated next to us that was drinking heavily and became quite loud and boisterous. No one from the wait staff could be bothered to ask them to quiet down; instead, another nearby customer did - - things did quiet down after that but only briefly and 2) after waiting almost an hour for our deserts, I requested our check; the deserts miraculously showed up minutes later - - no check; just the deserts. My wife refused to eat her desert believing that it was now tainted and I myself had just lost my appetite. After requesting he check yet again, another lengthy wait ensued. The one bright spot on the whole experience was that we did not get billed for the deserts. Needless to say, I struggled with the idea of leaving any kind of a tip. Overall, it was probably one of the most over priced & worst dining experiences of my life.

Terrible experience. Inattentive waitstaff making excuses for food being brought out late and cold. Expensive but bland tasting food made me sick for the next 24 hours. We were really looking forward to this. I had to chase down my waiter to get the check because we couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Very disappointed

Enjoyed a day before Valentine's Day with my wife and another couple. This is a classic French restaurant with variants on many of the usual menu items. Everything is very well prepared, both appetizers and main courses. Daily specials are attractive, but some of the standbys are really great. One of the nicest rooms in Richmond for conversation, with lots of historic district charm. Service is excellent. Highly recommended.

We absolutely loved our romantic dinner at Bistro Bobette. We keep returning so my wife can have her favorite dish in all of Richmond--the Trout Almondine with perfectly toasted almonds. Thank you for giving us the requested table. It was a busy night--a mix of business and pre-Valentine's Day. Thank you for being one of our favorites in the city.

We had such amazing food here! I highly recommend it. We ordered the spicy pecans, oxtail ravioli with black truffle--I wish it came as an entree, and tuna tartar for appetizers. We had the fish specials for dinner with a side of mac and cheese and it was fantastic. We had a perfect finish with the creme brulee. It's going to become a regular place in our dining cycle!

Our waiter forgot we were there, and we watched every other table in the restaurant - most of whom arrived after us- get served and finish before we got our food. The food itself was lacking in overall flavor and was pretty expensive. Nice ambience, and our waiter was apologetic, but this dining experience was a dud.
