This restaurant is not normally open on Sunday, but they made an exception for a special Mother's Day. The menu seemed limited as there were only about eight entree selections available. In fairness, it has been over a year since our last visit, and their menu may have been restricted during the COVID outbreak. Accompaniments were more than adequate, however. The food (Coq au Vin for her, salmon for me) was prepared very nicely, though the salmon was not glazed with soy-ginger-sesame as listed and was rather tame. The service was impeccable. In summary, this is a great place for a date night, romantic dining, or special occasion.
Went with my family for Mother’s Day dinner.
I normally love this restaurant for date nights and decided my teens could join us after showing them the menu and making sure they would find something they liked.
However, the limited menu removed the things they would normally have chosen. That was disappointing - I would have chosen a different restaurant if I’d known because it’s no fun to have children who aren’t satisfied with their meals on Mother’s Day.
Otherwise all that we did order was good and it was the usual good experience.
Recommend some sort of warning that there’s a limited menu on a special occasion day.
Took my wife and family for Mother’s Day lunch and left disappointed
The new ownership / new management provides a lackluster experience with average food.
We felt as though we were bothering the staff for standard items they failed to provide - such as forks, drinks, bread, coffee, etc.
The air vents blowing over the tables are filthy.
The sloppily dressed general manager nervously paced the restaurant floor the entire time but neglected to interact with the patrons unless there was a problem. The table behind us complained about their experience and the GM then berated the server in front of the entire house. Embarrassing and awkward for the poor server. The general feeling was that no one was smiling or happy - everyone seemed to want to be somewhere else.
In 20 years of dining here for special events this will be our last visit. It’s not the special place it once was. The food was ok but overpriced. The limited Mother’s Day menu offered no kids options. There are many other venues where the diner feels welcome and appreciated , not taken advantage of.
My biggest complaint was they only served one thing noddles for children on Mother’s Day. He didn’t want that so there was nothing for him to eat. They said it was going to be too busy later to serve anything else even though it was pretty empty on Mother’s Day lunch when I would think would be their busiest. I’ve never had a restaurant say that. I guess that’s why they are so slow. They use to be good years ago. Every time I try to give them another try again I’m always disappointed.
Beautiful food and restaurant
Mother’s Day menu was limited and not noted from what I saw when booking. Waiter was good to start but then after our order came back once to bring the check. I’ve eaten here several times, as a younger couple we do not get the same service as the older people. Food was below what I would expect for the price tag. I really like the restaurant but will look elsewhere before booking there again.
Have not been a past fan of Aix in the past, did not care for the menu. I was very pleased to see the menu changes. I will visit more in the future.
Not has friendly to the costumers as in the past.
Requesting a credit card to hold reservations is a bit over the top.
The biggest issue I have is that when we arrived at the restaurant and approached the hostess table, we were greeted by a very cranky person, who turned out to be the owner. It was apparent that he was having a bad day, but the way he handled our reservation was totally unprofessional.
I have been going to Bistro AIX for a very long time, but this will be my last time.
Mr. owner, you need to know that your costumers are the ones that butter your bread. Remember, no costumers no bread!
I wish that I could give this a 5 star review. We've been looking forward to eating here since, well, we moved here years ago. The service was excellent, the people friendly, the ambience pleasant and the food... good. My wife's Mahi was actually amazing and treated just the way that the filet deserved. My daughter's rigatoni was lovely and "mushroom-y." My short rib was nice enough but, not to be rude, something that I could have created at home with a more interesting sauce with a pot roast (although it did have a really nice looking sear on the exterior, the flavor did not really come through.) The root vegetables on the side were present but uninteresting. Decent wine selection, not huge but everything that you would need for a reasonably diverse selection (although the cocktail menu looked lovely, we didn't try it tonight.). There is a possibility that my misfortune was due to it being a "Mothers Day Weekend" menu, which we hoped to avoid by coming on a Saturday night (not because of anything bad that we had heard about Bistro Aix, but because holiday menus are generally sub-par everywhere. I don't know why. Possibly a good thesis for someone going to Johnston & Wales :) ) I think I need to go back when it's not a holiday.
An absolute disaster. Overcrowded, kitchen was discombobulated according to a server. Waited an hour for escargot and it came out cold. Never got the food we ordered and we left. A big big big disappointment after an otherwise lovely day in Jax. Never again
Bistro Aix has always been a great restaurant and has only improved over the years. The service is top notch & the food is delicious. The restaurant was beautifully renovated after Hurricane Irma in 2017 and the lounge is gorgeous now & isn't even close to being utilized to it's full potential.
We had an awesome experience at X. The only reservation was the high court fee, $25. We have a large wine cellar and like drinking our higher end wines when we go out. Most places will only charge a $15 cork fee. I think we would frequent X more if it had a more reasonable cork fee.
Waited 2 hours for apps and dinner. Two 50 tops in the back was supposedly the reason for the long food times. Our server was fantastic, not her fault the food took forever. Basically paid a babysitter so we could sit at bistro for 3 hours instead of dinner and going to another location for drinks. Overall worst experience I’ve had and I’m a huge fan of bistro six.
The restaurant was having a particularly rough night. After more than an hour, we never received the dinner that we ordered. They were also out of wood for the brick oven. Instead of the manager coming by our table to apologize for the incredibly long wait for our food, he never appeared. We have dined here before with a great experience. They are clearly suffering now. An excellent manager would have proactively been at our table 30-40 minutes after we ordered to apologize and offer us drinks on the house and give us an ETA. Even after an hour, no one could tell us when our food would arrive. We left tired and hungry. After speaking with the manager (whom I had to walk around to track down) he said they were missing kitchen staff. He did comp our drinks which was an obvious step given that we were leaving hungry. We felt sorry for the sweet waiter and of course tipped him generously. It wasn’t his fault.
We really should have been notified of the kitchen issues before being seated. Warn us that food may take a while. Nope. Much to our surprise they were still seating people in the restaurant when we were leaving at 9am with no dinner. If you are more than an hour behind, why accept more guests? The table next to us received their food extremely late with more than 10-15 minutes between when the first person received their plate until the last. It was only a party of 6.
Was good food but nothing fancy, the service was good. Nice place to have dinner
Amazing! Met the Owner, such a pleasant Soul!!! I am definitely coming back.
The food is excellent, customer service is fantastic, ambiance is fabulous! One of our favorite restaurants in San Marco!!
Excellent dinner. Professional top notch wait staff. Thanks for a great experience!
Amazing food and wonderful service
I enjoyed a nice evening out at my favorite Jacksonville restaurant. The food did not disappoint. I was glad to see the restaurant filled with customers, unlike a month ago when there were only 3 tables filled at 10 PM. There was a lively buzz going on among the patrons. Will go there again when in town.
Excellent diner and Waitstaff!
Bistro AIX has been in Jax for over 20 yrs. I would say over the past 5 yrs. or so the quality of the food is just not what it used to be. Whether that is due to management changes , chef changes, or unexpected circumstances.
I ordered the fish Aixoise, daily fish special, it happened to be Chilean sea bass with a zucchini crust, butternut squash risotto and a beurre blanc sauce. The fish was mushy and cold, and the zucchini “crust” was not a crust at all. It was layered atop the fish and underneath was a gelatinous substance I can only think was due to the underdone fish. Very disappointed. My husband ordered the cioppino and it was good.
All in all we keep thinking we will try again to see if they up their game. Hoping they go back to seasonal dishes that are executed to perfection. This just hasn’t happened.
A fine dining experience is only as good as the head chef, sous chef and management.
We will not return.
My wife ordered the shrimp tagliatelle as she has 50 times before and the recipe has been changed and it was not anywhere near as good as it previously was. Although the service was good, overall the dinner was disappointing.
Very good food, specially the excellent mussels cooked in a delicious sauce. Nice salads and well prepared calamari, great service. Unfortunately did not realize the restaurant had a very pleasant outdoor dining and parking in the back, thought the outdoor dining referred to the tables in the sidewalk. Look forward to eating in the outdoor patio the next time.
I have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the country, and Bistro Aix continues to be my all time favorite!
Always a nice night out. Drinks on point, server was excellent. I had the Aixoise salad, hubby had bouillabaisse type dish. Very good. We’ll be back
It was an amazing experience, I would definitely recommend!
We used to love this place; however, the food is now sub par at best.
A fabulous dinner. Professional staff. Top Top!
This was a great place!!!!! Enjoy this for the first time
We really enjoyed our evening. We hadn't been there in a long time and now am already looking forward to going back!
First time back to Bistro Aix in a while and love the new ambiance that is more open with plenty of social distancing between tables. The food and service was top notch. Thanks!!🤙🤙
One of my favorite spots.
The service was lackluster and very slow for the price. I got the shrimp pasta which was served at room temperature, way overcooked and way overseasoned. So much so that I sent it back. The server basically said ok let me take that for you. A manager did not come to the table and we were not offered anything else. I expected a little more from a fine dining establishment. Very disappointed.
Hostess promptly sat us down, but after 10-12mins, nobody came to take our order. Probably should have just left, because we were the only patrons in the entire restaurant by the time I got up to grab someone.
The escargot was amazing, but the main entree was a special and was overly salty & burnt, and the steamed mussels with chorizo were surprisingly flavorless. In fact the best part of the night was the escargot and the Cotes du Rhone wine. Other than that, I might stop in again to give them another chance because I’m moving to the area, but I wouldn’t recommend anything beyond appetizers and wine, and just go to the bar.
Jesse always impresses!
Wanted to like it, but food was subpar.
Celebrated a birthday at Bistro Aix and loved it! The truffle pizza is amazing!! We also had the tuna appetizer and cocktails. Fantastic food and service. I will be back.
never disappointed in my experience or food quality.
