the Service was great, the food was good but not great especially since it’s a bit pricey.
Excellent food, including calamari appetizer and Caesar Salad for starters. Entrees included broiled scallops and seared salmon, both dishes prepared perfectly. The service was very good. The restaurant is conveniently located near the Quirk Hotel, a short walk to the theatre.
From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted and treated extremely well by the owner/manager, William. The ambiance is wonderful and sitting looking out at the city makes one feel you are on vacation. William made an off menu brunch drink for us that was divine then recommended the Crab Benedict which was perfectly proportioned and best I have ever had. It was a great Sunday brunch experience and I highly recommend it. Thank you William for making our Sunday very special!!
My wife and I and another couple celebrated New Year's Eve at Bistro 27. We had eaten at Bistro 27 twice earlier and wanted to share it with these friends. It was a special New Year's Eve menu. I started with the (GIANT) shrimp and crabmeat cocktail. It featured spicy sauce and was very delicious. My main course was a ribeye steak which was cooked perfectly and nicely complemented with mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley. The others had stuffed chicken which they enjoyed very much. For desert, the guys had New York cheesecake (perfect, proper New York style—no additional flavorings) while the ladies had tiaramisu (light and delicious). As a side note, the coffee they served with the desert was excellent.
I believe we have made a couple of new fans for Bistro 27. For certain, WE will be back, again.
I was seated near the front and without asking was moved to the back to avoid the cold rush of air when the door opened.
The restaurant is gorgeous, the staff incredible so gracious. Thank you for a lovely evening.
Continues to be an excellent value, on very very good food!
Got to the restaurant at 1:00pm. Was promptly seated by Kyle. He was very personable and a great waiter. Did not wait long for my food. Ordered steak and eggs. I'm telling you, it was so good. Generous portions. Had a lovely bistro salad with blue cheese and homemade balsamic vinaigrette. That was so tasty and flavorful! Staff was very friendly! Even the owner came to say hello! Bill was so reasonable. Over all, a very pleasant dining experience! Will definitely return!! Thanks 27!
We enjoyed brunch before the show! Owner was attentive and friendly. Enjoyed the steak and eggs and the biscuits and gravy were very well done. We will be back!
Excellent service and the food was perfect!!
We were in town for a show at the Altria Theater, as were about 3,500 other people. We stopped by Bistro 27, and the owner made sure that we got our food and drinks in a timely manner, even though the restaurant was packed. Not only were they very attentive, my wife said that the scallops were the best she had ever had. I'd recommend giving them a try; they are just a short walk from the theater.
Came in for dinner with a friend. We shared the crab dip which was delicious. The bread was soft, yet perfectly grilled, the dip itself had huge chunks of crab! For dinner I got the orecchiette with sausage and broccoli. The pasta was perfectly cooked. The sausage was flavorful and crispy, and the broccoli was not overcooked as it is in most places AND THE SAUCE 😍 one of the best. Dessert was a tiramisu, not overly sweet, with such a light cake. Service was prompt and friendly and the manager stopped by to make sure everything was great. Excellent experience will definitely be back!
Went with my son to celebrate his 3rd successful semester of nursing school. We felt welcome the moment we walked in. The spacious dining area is beautiful and also intimate. We enjoyed a crostini appetizer with an excellent Malbec. I ordered the salmon which was delicious. This came with grilled vegetables and perfectly prepared fingerling potatoes. We indulged in two desserts- my son had the brownie sundae and I had a lemon chiffon cake covered with fruit medley and raspberry glaze. Decadent!! Our meal was excellent. Our server Brandon was very attentive. Can’t wait to return and bring friends. This is a keeper 😊👍🏻
We stumbled into Bistro 27 for the first time while waiting for a show across the street. So glad we did! William, the owner, greeted us at the bar and couldn’t have been nicer. We got the Lamb Polpette meatballs, which are amazing, and when they are on the menu, the mussels are absolutely to die for.
We have been many times after, and the service, food and drinks have always been great. The brunch is also delicious and boozy!
Would highly suggest Bistro 27 if you find yourself if the Richmond Arts District area!
I tried Bistro 27 for the first time tonight. The menu was varied and prices reasonable. I especially enjoyed the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The pasta dish was first rate and the portion healthy. I followed this with a brownie sundae dessert that was phenomenal. The experience was all around excellent. Looking forward to trying the brunch on my next visit. Would highly recommend.
What a lovely restaurant! I’ve wanted to try this restaurant for a while and am glad I finally did! The host was very welcoming, although there was an event taking place, I was able to sit at the bar for dinner where I enjoyed an appetizer, entree, and dessert. I tried the crab dip which was delicious - the creamed fennel made it quite unique. Next, I ordered the chicken Marsala which came with mash and zucchini - tasty comfort food and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Finally, i had the tiramisu for dessert - oh my goodness, it might be the best tiramisu I’ve had. The service was excellent, and the manager even came to check on our experience. Will be back again!
We went to dinner before going to Hamilton and were asked if that's what we were doing when we arrived. While we were never rushed, our server was aware of our deadline and made sure our meal flowed accordingly. The food was very good - I had the salmon and it was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I hope the grilled pear salad catches on - the pear has a wonderful flavor! The ambiance is very nice - elegant without being stuffy, not too loud.
Had the scallops entree , was cooked perfectly and swimming in sauce . Had some fingerling potatoes that were crispy and coated in butter . Service was on point , and love the white table atmosphere . Very affordable prices too. Will come back .
Wonderful service, everyone was friendly and knowledgeable and the food was delicious! I can't wait to try brunch!
This was my sons birthday. My husband and I took he and his girlfriend out to dinner before a surprise birthday party.
Went to Bistro 27 ahead of the theater with 90+ minutes for dinner. Informed the waiter. Slow/absent wait staff meant we had no time for coffee or dessert. Most of the evening was spent waiting on food or the check. 6pm dinner - yet several menu items not available. Uneven/awkward service. Meals were "just OK".
Will not likely return.
We are sorry that your visit to Bistro 27 was less than stellar. This is not the norm for our restaurant and we would like to speak to you about your experience. Please contact the Owner/Manager, William, at 804-780-0086.
We went before seeing Hamilton at the Altria Theater and it was the perfect choice!
Bistro 27 Thanksgiving Day was the best, I was able to modify my reservation at the last minute. I had the prime rib cooked perfectly, the sides were amazing - the yams!!!!! Can’t wait till next year
This establishment is a great place to relax, enjoy the ambient, the servers were pleasant, everyone wore, the same color, so it was easy to distinguish them from the patrons, the food was excellent, the manager was there on point ensuring things went right., pay parking was right behind the building, again, it great place to enjoy.
Thanksgiving dinner was fantastic with just the right amount of food and the variety was so very delicious.
My Mom and I were seated right at the door and the cold weather and wind didn't make for a pleasant visit.
Went with family for thanksgiving buffet. Manager was most accommodating. Food and service was top notch. Beautiful restaurant. Large front windows brought in nice light. Will definitely visit again.
Great service, wonderful staff, delicious food!
We enjoyed Thanksgiving Dinner at Bistro 27 and meeting with William the owner. Splendid overall holiday turkey and stuffing with extensive salad/fruit offering. Great experience and worth a return visit.
My family and I had our Thankgiving meal at Bistro 27 this year. We had never been to the Bistro before and were pleasantly surprised by the excellent service and indoor ambiance. The thing that stood out the most, though, was the food, which was exceptional. Having been to many restaurants in the area for Thanksgiving over the years (Boathouse buffet, the Jefferson hotel, etc.) we weren't sure what to expect at Bistro 27. We were very pleased, and raved about the food to our other family members who could not attend. I will be making a reservation for next year, and will likely try Bistro 27 for everyday dining.
Just had a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving meal. I cannot say enough fabulous things about the food, selection, staff...they even had someone outside giving doggie treats. We got 2 for Mia' Isabella our Maltese! Great time!
Food selection was very good and our meals were absolutely delicious! Very attentive staff and great effort to make us feel like we were valued customers. We enjoyed the experience so much that we returned the next day and, even without a reservation, were again literally welcomed with open arms and seated promptly at a table for yet another tasty meal. Couldn’t recommend this restaurant more highly
I love this place! The food is outstanding, the service is first rate and I love that the owner takes such a personal interest in the diners. William is so welcoming and personable! I’ve been here several times and every meal was a winner. Keep doing what you are doing! I love all that is Bistro 27!
Fantastic food and top notch service. Pleasant surprised. Will return soon!
We had an excellent meal, made even more enjoyable.by the attention by and conversation with the owner/manager. If we lived in the Richmond area, this bistro would be a regular for us. Our dishes were well prepared and made with quality ingredients.
My friend and I met for dinner after seeing Hamilton. We were immediately seated by a friendly hostess after being given the option of picking our table. Our waitress was extremely friendly and engaging. She immediately let us know what the specials were; and gave us a sufficient amount of time to look over the menu. I had the chicken Marsala, and my friend had the Portabello mushroom. Both entrées accompanied with the fresh bread were delicious. We also enjoyed a piece of lemon cake for dessert. The ambience was quite relaxing, but in an upscale setting, and both of us commented that we enjoyed the music that was playing at an appropriate volume. I definitely plan to be back, and I highly recommend Bistro 27 to others. Another positive is that they take reservations!
We made reservations here prior to seeing Hamilton at the nearby Altria theater. We had done this before and knew that we were going to be able to be served and get to the show in plenty of time. It never seem to be very crowded at this time and we have a hard time understanding that because this. Place. Is. Great.
You know it’s going to be a good night when, as your server recites the specials, in your mind you’re going yes, that’s good. Yes. Yes, that’s good. And so it went. The food is full of flavor; the menu, creative.
Rapidly becoming one of those places that actually becomes the Destination, rather than where you stop before going to your evening event.
We came pre theatre with 1 and 1/2 hours to dine. Our appetizer did not come for an hour. Our waiter was apologetic and explained someone did not show up to work in the kitchen, but it made for a more rushed rest of the meal. Our waiter was often absent (trying to help in the kitchen I suspect) but it meant we could not change our order to something simpler and more timely. Afraid we were not enough impressed by the quality of the food to try it again.
This place is a gem! Great service, great food, and a nice selection of wines. I had the beet salad. My friend had the Caesar 9. We shared the crispy seared Atlantic salmon. All were exceptional. A quiet, relaxing restaurant. One can actually have a conversation with their table mate. None of the piped in loud music of so many restaurants today. I’ll be eating here again soon!
When we arrived it seemed as though they weren’t expecting us. We waiting to be sat as if we were walk in customers. The waiter didn’t let us know what dishes they were already out of until we ordered one and not until 10 minutes after we ordered to tell us of another dish that was out. The bill had both dishes on it which they were very quick to reimburse to my card, after I had caught the error.
The food was no more than ok. We did try two starters one of calamari which was tasteless and meatballs which were overcooked and dry. The 3 main dishes that were at the table were just ok.
I hope it was just an off Saturday night for them but we will not be returning to find out.
