Excellent sunset and food
People next to us very loud. Food arrived out of order and and main entree arrived very late. Staff friendly. Great ocean views. Spacious. True casual and family friendly...
Love this place. Great atmosphere. Great food. Creative cuisine. One of my beachy favorites
Ordered 2 appetizers and drinks before dinner. They we're all good. We also ordered the shrimp scampi and fish and chips. Food was real good but pretty standard fare. Nothing worth 5 stars. Server could have been a little friendlier. But overall we had a good time and a nice dinner with a scenic view of the ocean.
Wood floors...wood walls. Wood ceilings...equal a noise level too loud to enjoy the dining experience. Couple that with 20 minutes to receive drink order....and we will not be returning.
Food was mediocre and service was very poor. Great location but can't recommend it for dinner unless you just want to have drinks and the fried green beans at happy hour
We enjoyed a tasty meal that used local ingredients and had a great value. The outdoor patio had a wonderful ocean view that added to the enjoyment of the dining experience.
Great food at a great price. Best halibut I have ever had at a restaurant
Great place to hang out with friends and family. Great food, friendly service and welcoming and comfortable setting.
Food was really good. Best seafood chowder I have had in a few years. A meal by itself.
Great views of the sunset and the beach and waves.
We are trying to visit as often as we can before the restaurant closes for good. So sad. We have enjoyed it over the years. Lily provided excellent service.
I noted on Open Table that it was my husband's birthday. The hostess said, "Whose birthday is it" as we sat down. Other than that, there was no further mention of his birthday. Our server was attentive and our salmon delicious. The server told us about an amazing chocolate cheesecake that was the featured dessert. We ordered that and she soon returned to say that they just sold the last piece. It was only 5:30! The restrooms were filthy and the employees kept slamming the kitchen door into the row of booths where we were sitting. This was jarring.
The food was good, not great. Good atmosphere but we had a terrible waiter, but we noticed that service in Laguna Beach was lacking everywhere we went. What's up with that?
When you ask for small plates to eat your shared appetizers with the table and are told "it might be awhile," maybe you should just get up and leave. Seriously our small plate appetizers had NO other way to be eaten but sharing using small (or even large) plates. The waitress just shrugged her shoulders when I asked her how she recommend we eat without plates. We had to lean over to grab utensils from the next table. No refills on water or anything else..... honestly I'm not sure the service could have been worse. The food was really good.... but don't expect a plate to eat it off of. lol. Wouldn't go back.
I guess I expected better seafood from Laguna. I had the Curry seared Ahi and it was the worst piece of Ahi I have ever seen. It looked like it had been crystallized from freezing and the taste was so bland. My date had the Jambalaya and again bland and looked frozen in the middle. The server just wanted to get out of there. She actually brought the wrong food to the table and set it down. All around bad experience will not be returning.
Our waitress flat out sucked. The bus boys were way better at serving us than our own waitress. She checked on the tables around us all night, and never checked on us after she took our drink orders. If you get Becky, ask for someone else.
The food was good! We were seated right away, however it was about 20 minutes till we received water. Not sure if bread is served, but we never were offered it or received it. Our reservation was for 7:00 and we did not get our dinner till about 8:30. We ordered an appetizer which came out pretty burnt minus the sauce that was supposed to accompany it, plus the presentation was awful. It took awhile to get someone's attention to get the sauce. Our order wasn't taken for almost an hour. We will not return despite the food being good. Horrible service. There were a lot of big parties, but having been in the restaurant industry, they were definitely understaffed and no manager appeared to be on the floor overseeing if everything was alright.
Food was great and the hostess was very friendly. We reserved online and when we arrived the hostess made sure we got great table with a view.
Great service, food, atmosphere
Cool little spot
Quality of food and service poor. Had to go ask the manager to have table service. Restaurant was not busy. Not rushing back
Great service and food. I would recommend to a friend and will definitely visit again.
The only good thing that can be said is that the view was nice. Food was a cross between what you would expect from a High school cafeteria and an airplane. NE Clamchowder was truly "glop" which by the time it had reached the table had skimmed over as if it came out of a can before someone forgot to add the extra liquid. Lobster cakes did not contain any fresh fish or anything resembling a recognizable piece of fish and came swimming in water from the over oiled sautéed spinach. Shrimp in the shrimp scampi was clearly not fresh and the sauce resembled the soup. And our bad for ordering dessert. Brownie sundae Involved a combination of cake not brownie, chocolate sauce not fudge, ice cream that reminded me of the little kid in the Breyers commercial trying to pronounce monodextralsomethingorother, and whipped cream from a can. All in all was a travesty of from the freezer fish swimming in semi homemade "sauces" that had the consistency and taste of something made from a combination of large cans of something with long lists of unrecognizable ingredients.
Had a great time, casual but still good for a fun occasion or casual date. Food was awesome and a great value. It was a birthday, which we stayed in the reservation, but it was forgotten.
Fish was fresh, some creative ideas, grilled cheese is amazing, so are the fish tacos, and lobster quesadillas. Burgers are also good if you are not into seafood.
Have been on more crowded nights and it can be really loud, mid week it was quiet.
Ever time we visit Laguna Beach we eat here! We have never had a bad meal!
We had not been to Big Fish for a while so decided to give it a try. I ordered the Curry Seared Ahi Tuna. The tuna was really poor, fatty cut of meat and the curry sauce was more like a sweet jelly than a curry. The quinoa that it was served with was void of any flavor. My partner ordered the Macadamia Crusted Talapia and the sauce was heavy and overpowering. In the end, we wished that we would have stopped with the fried green beans which we're delicious. Unfortunately, we've crossed this one off of our list.
We enjoyed the restraunt. It is pretty casual. What we enjoyed most was the view and the food. The service was friendly, courteous and prompt. We got there early so we could get a window table and we were not disappointed, the view at sunset was fantastic.
Always a good time at Big Fish Tavern. Great service, great food and great atmosphere. Great beers and stouts on tap and that's always a great thing. Had the fish and chips, kids had the filet; it's actually a darn good cut of meat with the sauce on top and the Ceviche was fresh and awesome.
I only have one request. Can you please pretty please put a real fish sandwich on the menu. I beg you. I've been coming for years and love everything and that's my only request.
i know what to expect and so I'm never disappointed! My whole family enjoys eating here. It's a bit noisy but tolerable. We like sitting in the enclosed patio
They have really great fish and chips. So great, that it was featured in a few articles that came up when I googled fish and chip spots in the OC.
Booked 2 weeks ahead of time for a reservation time of 10:30a.m. We arrived at 10:20a.m. to be sent away and told they don't open until 11. Mother's Day was ruined! If the restaurant doesn't open until a set time, the system should not allow you to make a reservation prior to these hours.
Food is very good, great views and excellent for sports watching in the bar.
Seated promptly with reservations. Very friendly waiter, great view, ordered Peruvian ceviche, Tuna poke, bacon wrapped scallops, all very tasty and good quantity.
Good fish options. Ahi dinner salad was good, except too much dressing. Order light on the dressing or on the side. I was happy to know the salmon was wild for the dinner option, not salad. The grilled veggies were good too. I always look for healthy options on the menu and I was able to substitute mashed potatoes for extra veggies.
We decided on this resturant because the reviews mentioned a wide selection of fresh fish. This was true but we were not impressed with the quality of the food especially compared with the prices .
Restaurant was very busy, and our server did her best but food was slow to come. Noisy as they were full and overall food was good.
The hostess with black hair was rude didn't want to accommodate our party and didnt even try
The other hostess w blond hair was very helpful and took over to find us a nice table
The food was excellent for our party of four. The waiter was very friendly and helpful.
Good view of ocean. Good food. Good service. But not worth the price. Have had better for the price.
I loved the crab salad! A nice pile of yummy crab and fresh veggies topped this generous sized salad. My husband and I went on Monday evening, which unbeknownst to us, was locals night. We received a 25% discount on our meal, very cool!
