Amazing food, Ron our server was awesome, just another wonderful experience at one of my favorite places
Thank you Robert! We could not agree more and I will make sure Ron is notified.
From beginning to end, we could not have enjoyed our meal more!
Thank you for the stars!
Big 4 restaurant is a beautiful place. Really nice food, ambiance is perfect, rich, and charming with a history. It's expensive but pretty much worth it. The bar alone is worth a visit.
Thank you for reviewing us and Thank you for your feedback.
On point, as always. My favorite SF old school gem❤️
Thank you for the High Praise!
A true old-school San Francisco institution. The decor, pianist, cocktails and fantastic Americana cuisine. A trip back to the golden ages. Must try the Cesar Salad and the Chicken Pot Pie is better than Mom can make. To die for!
Thank you for the stars! We are very proud to serve our Chicken Pot Pie to all of our customers. We will be happy to serve you again.
The group of 4 businessmen at the next table were incredibly loud & boorish.
Thank you for your feedback. We will take it into a consideration.
Poor guys got beat up at lunch. Should have tried to remedy - as we were very nice about it.
Thank you for your review. Please feel free to contact us at 415-730-8997
Restaurant was understaffed. It took over 1 hr to be served breakfast.
Thank you for the feedback. We will get better next time. Please do come to see us again.
Always amazing food, service and ambiance! Wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Perfect for date nights, birthday celebrations or just a simple night out for dinner.
Thank you for reviewing us and recommending us to others. We will happy to serve you again soon.
We have dined at The Big 4 many times in the past and as always the ambiance, food & service were top drawer.
Thank you for the high praise. We will be happy to see you again.
My wife and I celebrated our 100 month anniversary here. The place feels a little outdated, but the service and food was exceptional. We had the grilled oysters (Special), I had the NY Steak and my wife had the pork chop. The grilled oysters were really good. I really enjoyed the char and the soupy sauce that came with the oysters. The NY steak was 14 oz and my wife's pork chop was 16 oz, so big portions. I asked for medium rare steak, and it was cooked to perfection. I also loved the butter topping with the steak. My wife's pork chop came with this orange puree which was sweet and went well with the pork chop. Then we had dessert, I had the bread pudding and my wife had the lemon meyer creme brulee. Desserts were just perfect. The bread pudding was soft and warm, and sweet with the creme anglaise mixed with caramel. The creme brulee came with cookies that went perfect with the dessert! Will definitely come back again.
Dear Patrick, Thank you for your review. It's our pleasure to serve you during your Anniversary Celebration and we are very happy that we made it memorable. We are constantly updating the menu. Please come to see us again.
We come here occasionally for special dinners and enjoy the restaurant. The food and the atmosphere are excellent. The wine list is very pricey and does not have much selection below $100. Ask for the wine-by-the-glass list to fine reasonably priced bottles.
Thank you for your feedback. We will take it into consideration.
Absurdly overpriced — $48 for a lobster-less, crab-less cioppino. Great atmosphere but come on...
Excellent dining experience. Our Waiter, Ali, was the best.
The restaurant is an easy walk from the Fairmont, which is why I chose Big 4. The waitress was outstanding, and the food was great. I loved the short ribs, probably the best I have ever had.
A Nob Hill "clubby ambiance" offers standard American fare. During a recent evening visit after 9 p.m. the dining area not busy however our server twice reminded us "the kitchen will be closing" Their staff seemed hurried to end shift. The experience was disappointing
Quiet, slow paced dinner and bar area. The wood paneled walls, ample booth and table space makes this place perfect for a quiet, unrushed dining experience. While the price may be steep, it is because of the warm, inviting ambiance coupled with attentive service from the staff while not being overbearing in the least. We will definitely be visiting the next time we are near Nob HIll.
Food was good but not extraordinary enough to justify the high prices. Service was good.
Thank you for your feedback.
It’s very overpriced hotel food in a very dated setting. We ended up eating here because a reservation elsewhere fell through. I ordered a Caesar salad and asked to add chicken. The addition of chicken was an extra $11. The salad and presentation was mediocre at best. The piano in the bar was charming and this probably would have been a better choice for drinks. But those were ober priced as well.
This is not the place for lunch. Because they don’t serve lunch they serve bar food! But accepted our lunch reservation. When we arrived it took several minutes to be acknowledged by the wait staff. When they finally did they proceeded to set up a table in the bar. We thought we are have a nice Valentines lunch instead we got snacks!
Thank you for your time reviewing us
A wonderful evening. It was our wedding anniversary, and I can't imagine a better place to celebrate it next year.

Not very friendly service, great atmosphere and food.

Fabulous look forward to returning

Best filet in town. Best dining room in town.
Excellent meal, great service, finally a good restaurant not going to the fix pris approach
Thank you for your feedback. We trying to open up to all possible categories and serve variety of diners.
Beautiful traditional upscale hotel restaurant. Quite expensive and while the service and ambiance live up to the cost, the food fell short in a variety of ways. Simple things like the bread offered in the bread basket was plain white in a city with lots of wonderful bakeries and delicious breads. The "warm" goat cheese salad came with a large disk of room temperature goat cheese, not warm at all. The pasta entree [ravioli in a cream sauce with wild mushrooms] was quite good but my wife's pork chop, while large and nicely prepared came on a plate with a few very uninspired brussel sprouts. When an entree is $50+, you expect a somewhat better, more complete and appealing plate. With a glass of wine, a salad and an entree, it is $75-$85 per person [or so] which is not surprising for a restaurant like this, but at that price point the food should be consistently delicious and appealing. I would not go back. For what it is worth, our waitress was perfect, attentive and helpful. It was the menu and the kitchen that fell short.
Breakfast was good but the portions were miniscule. I counted 6 small pieces of potato with my eggs. Definitely not a repeat.
One of my favorites for many years. Very nice atmosphere with a pianist.
I do wish for a broader menu as the Big 4 is basically steak house.
Hello Paul, Thank you for your feedback. Please check us out again as we provide daily specials every day and happy to accommodate your needs.
Ahead of my price range for the future $300 for four people seems like a lot without appetizers without desserts without even coffee or tea
Great ambience and service makes up for good (but not great) food. Setting and atmosphere in both bar and restaurant are hard to beat.
Thank you for your feedback Anton
drinks were great, filet was the best ever had, pot pie and tortellini delicious
Thank you for the stars and feedback
We love everything about the Big Four restaurant, the food, the service, the ambiance, the location. It is a must dining experience!
Dear RazzariB, Thank you for the stars and nice comments.
Met friends for dinner today n this old-San Francisco-style cozy spot. Service was great, food was traditional and comforting. Feels historic and inviting.
Hello Robin, Thank you for the high praise. We agree with you, the Big 4 is very cozy spot.
A San Francisco Classic!
Everything about our dinner at Big 4 was fantastic. The restaurant was warm and full of energy while the Piano player performed a lovely tune. We were seated right away in a half-round booth which we loved...we had a great view of the restaurant.
Our waiter ALI could not have been better, he was warm, fun, funny, and very knowledgeable of the menu.
Our drinks tasted fantastic and our food...OMG, the food, The chicken pot pie presentation was a show itself (Thank you Ali!) and the Filet Mignon and Cioppino were out of this world.
Our dessert was the fact that Joe Montana came in with his wife and a group of friends and sat one table away...we can now say that we had dinner with him!
We loved our experience and will be back soon.
Hello Veronica, Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed our food and service. We will see you soon again. We love our customers including Joe Montana and Ali makes feel everyone special.
We had a truly enjoyable dining experience from the food to the service.
Professional friendly service paired with excellent food (generous portions)and wine menu in old school dark wood atmosphere.... classic and can’t go wrong
Thank you for the high praise.
We love this spot!!! My only gripe is $50 per corkage is a bit insane!!!
Plus our waitress charged us 3 corkage fees and we only
opened two bottles.
That was a bit off putting but nonetheless, we shall return
again and again!
Hello MaureenR, Thank you for your feedback. Please contact us if you would like to review the charges. Otherwise we will see you soon again.
Love the Pot Pie!!
Thank you. We love to serve the Pot Pie too!
Great food. Great atmosphere. Great Service Very classy ambiance. Would definitely go again. The oysters rockefeller for appetizer were a bit of a let down. Otherwise, the entire dining experience was great.
Thank you for the feedback! We will look into our Oyster Dish. Please do see us again.
