Marino Ristorante is deeply rooted in Hollywood since the late 1950’s when Ciro (Mario to friends) Marino landed in Hollywood and has ever since had generations of who’s who in the movie, record, art, political and business LA community at his tables. Today it is still family owned and given its warm welcome flavor by the second generation of Marinos, Mario in the dining room and brother Sal in the kitchen.

The decor is modern and comfortable with memorabilia from a 60 year career which all come together to create its appeal. Described by many marrying the quintessential NY Italian in Los Angeles for its history coupled with today’s seasonal menu, highlighting the best locally sourced ingredients and top notch freshest seafood available.

It’s been a minute( we’re talking years!), since I’ve dined here. I wanted to take the twins to a fun spot and I thought, why not? So this place is such an institution, it really is! One of the only places that uses real wood to grill steaks to perfection. Our dinner was fairly simple. We ordered a bone in ribeye steak that was seasoned and grilled perfectly. Swordfish which was grilled beautifully and came with a house made tartar sauce. This tartar sauce is like an amped bernaise with tarragon. Delicious. In addition, we had the famous fettuccine Alfredo, which is made with homemade fettuccine. Again another winner. Our sides co sisters of charred broccoli rabe and au gratin potatoes. A meal to remember. I had one martini and it comes with a side car that sits in ice to keep the excess nice and chilly which is just the way I like it. We were celebrating a graduation so they comped up a brownie sundae which my son promptly devoured. I was so surprised when they did that because Mastros once gave us a piece of cheesecake that we never asked for and charged us for it. This place is a class act. I forgot how great it is but was reminded tonight. We’ll definitely return soon! Thank you!.

A memorable evening at The Black Cat… with just one strange moment. We had an amazing dining experience at The Black Cat. The staff was warm, attentive, and incredibly professional especially our server, who made sure every detail of our dinner was taken care of. The food was exceptional, both in flavor and presentation, and the value was excellent. The ambience is cozy, stylish, and welcoming perfect for a night out with friends. One odd moment: while we were waiting at the bar for our party to arrive, I paid my tab and was taking a photo of the receipt alongside my drink and a postcard just something to capture the moment. The bartender walked up while I was mid-photo and snatched the receipt and postcard out of my shot, even though it was clear I was taking a picture. It felt intrusive and unnecessary. That said, I didn’t let it ruin the evening because everything else was fantastic. Still, bartenders should respect patrons’ space and let them document their experience as long as it’s not disruptive. Overall, I highly recommend The Black Cat. One awkward moment, but a truly excellent evening otherwise.
