We both had the W.A.R.A. Restaurant Week 3-Course Special and it was superb!
The Seafood Baked in Parchment Paper included salmon fillet, shrimp & sea scallops, spinach, linguine, tomatoes, and green onions with garlic butter. Beautiful and delicious! It cam with She-Crab Soup and Caesar Salad. I love the She-Crab Soup here :-). Our server, Destiny, was amazing - perfectly attentive without being intrusive. We had a wonderful time and will be back soon!
This was our first time eating here but I assure you that it won't be our last. We were very pleased with the entire dining experience.
We are from Maryland and live on the Chesapeake Bay and love good seafood. This was the third time we have gone to Berret's and usually get the New England Clam Chowder and then get the Crab Cakes as our entre, this time I tried the Shrimp Two Ways and my wife got her usual Crab Cakes. We both were very pleased with our meals the speed with which our meal was brought to the table as always was perfect. Our server was back to make sure every thing was like we wanted several times could not ask fro better service. Also if you are someone who likes your food to be fresh from the fire hot then Berret's is the place for you to go. We have never gotten cold food or food that got cold before we could eat it.
I can not recommend Berret's highly enough.
As expected, Berret's was awesome. They have continued to show how reliable it is to get great food in Williamsburg.
Food was great as always. Delaney, our server, was very good and provided excellent service.
The food was amazing, the service was excellent, and the ambiance was peaceful. Our waitress even made sure that our shared meal was separated in the kitchen before serving. Highly recommend!
Located in a beautiful corner of quiet downtown Williamsburg. Crab cakes were excellent - packed with crab, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Unfortunately, the seafood was otherwise overcooked - redfish was chewy and oysters Rockefeller baked for so long that they were dried out. The menu could also use an update.
Service was great and the food looked beautiful. The food had little flavor. The potatoes often had hard pieces in them; they were supposed to be a mashed potato. Expensive for what was presented.
Our meal and service were awesome!! We enjoyed our entire time
Great service, food and ambiance
This restaurant probably a “fine” restaurant for most people. If u want anything creative or upscale, this is not the place. No tablecloths, the “host” led us to a table in what looked like crocs.
The meal was ok. But, I had shrimp two way. Fried and grilled. Now, would you serve mashed potatoes? No. You would serve rice or maybe orzo. I was just a disappointment.
Coming from Charleston sc where the food is incredible it might not be fair to compare. Food was average, waiter forgot our crab soup appetizer so all the food came out at once. It will be a while before we decide to back here.
Loved it! Food was amazing and excellent service
Disappointing meal for the price. Virtually no crab in the she crab soup. Shrimp were overly breaded and small without the breading. Pesto crab dip had very little crab. Cold mashed potatoes though the side of veggies were crisp and well seasoned. You can eat better seafood at similar prices elsewhere in the Hampton Roads area. Our waiter was attentive and tried to make it a positive experience but could not overcome the mediocre food. This restaurant is minding food costs to a fault.
Always a pleasurable experience with accommodating staff. Menu has limited selections but actually allows a focus on consistency. Nice wine selections. Server, Jessica, was very attentive and friendly.
New Year’s Eve was excellent!
Food, drinks and service all excellent. Will dine there again.
This restaurant, which has occupied this space in the center of town for many years, is reliable and competent. It manages to bridge the difference between the locals and visiting tourists, no small trick. We had a last-minute birthday dinner to put together and the management/table service was very helpful. I cannot thank them enough for that.
This was, our second dining experience at Berret's and, we were not disappointed! We arrived at six for our six-fifteen reservation, and, were greeted and seated immediately. Our Server (Courtney) was attentive, informative, and pleasant despite it being the holiday rush season. The menu is extensive, and, varied for any taste buds. We chose the clam chowder which is served piping hot the way we like it! The crab cake dinner followed and was decadent! Well presented, hot, very little filler, and delicious. We chatted with a few other clients who had the two types of shrimp dinner, and, they were thrilled! They followed it up with a caramel cinnamon bun with ice cream type of dessert that looked like it would feed three people! We were all taken aback and joked upon it. They ate it with gusto! There have been, so many changes in the Williamsburg area, some, not so good. But with Berret's you can rest assure yourself of a fantastic meal, great service, and, at an outstanding value. Berret's is that one "old friend" that you can always count on to be there, and, be the stable establishment that you can return, time and time again, and, find it welcoming, presenting you with stellar service, and, a meal, that you will enjoy. Highly recommended!
We first visited Berret's in April 2019 and have been talking about it since! When we decided to visit Williamsburg again for the new year we decided we must return Berret's again! They did not disappoint! We made reservations two nights in a row and sampled new items each night. The raw oysters are delicious, the filet mignon with brie is incredible, and the she-crab soup is divine. We tell everyone we know about this place! They exceeded our expectations when another local restaurant left us feeling 'eh'. Absolutely worth a visit, or two!
Good selection of seafood dishes. Gluten-free menu. Convenient to historic area.
Food and service was excellent!
The food was very good, but how it is plated and served is very 80's as is the decor. It's one of those places that you know you would lover more if they freshened up their decor and put in a new floor. The bar was very bright and unfriendly - just not cozy or bar-like. The patio dining looked pleasant when the weather cooperates.
Service was great.
Loved the meal, service was fantastic.
The server Delaney was awesome. The food was awesome. I had a mix plate of crab cakes, salmon and scallops. For $29 it was excellent
Beautifully decorated for holidays. Everyone was so nice. The food was excellent.
Horrible food for the price. Restaurant was worn out (just look at the ceiling) and food didn’t have good flavor. We felt sick sick to our stomachs. Service was good and oysters were good for the price. Would not recommend at all!!!
Booked last minute on the ride down to Williamsburg. Great food and service. Calamari was so delicious. Appetizers definitely not to pass on.
We had a wonderful time meal. Everything was delicious. The room was quiet and lovely.
We were there for a late Christmas Eve lunch (1415 reservation time) Our server Jess was attentive and polite. The food portions and price were balanced and were delicious! Unfortunately, our table was located in a back corner where we looked into the back outdoor area which was a painted wooden wall and the back area where the wait staff placed orders and food came out. It is a lovely restaurant but I do believe that we were seated at the least desirable table in the place. The main advantage is that the had a Christmas tree in the corner so that helped.
We would most definitely return.
Mediocre food. Cheese sauce on my fish was poor quality
The food was outstanding and the service was exceptional. Our waitress was terrific!
Celebrated mother's birthday with group of 6. So yummy. Nice server. Champagne bottle for mom and candle in a dessert. Loved it.
Restaurant in immediate need of renovation.
Food was fair and overpriced.
Berret’s restaurant never fails to serve excellent meals. We visit whenever we are in Williamsburg and it is always a wonderful experience. The seafood is always fresh and well prepared. The specials are always worth consideration and often a special treat. Berret’s is my favorite place for raw oysters on the half shell and they also serve some delicious cooked oyster appetizers.
I had been looking forward to visiting Berret's as another good restaurant to bring friends/family but we were disappointed. The waiter was satisfactory, never assisted or made suggestions, offered more drinks/food or followed up to see if everything was ok. The food was very average, nothing exciting or special. We did not even wait to have dessert because we were uninterested in spending the money for something average.
I would not bring friends/family nor would I recommend it as anything special. We would not return, there are too many good restaurants.
The filet mignon was tough, the worst I've ever had and the 3 small scallops were not worth $12. I sent it back and ordered soup. My husband's meal was fine. Having made a reservation weeks in advance, they wanted to put us at a tiny table next to a table with 2 and 3 yr. olds. We asked for somewhere else to sit instead and were seated by a door in an added on room. I was freezing with my heavy coat on. I said something to the waitress and she found the door wasn't closed properly and letting in cold air. It did warm up a bit, but still cold. It was in the 20's that night. Our anniversary dinner was ruined from the start. We live local and will not be eating here again.
Great food and service. Facility is dated.
Superior service and food. Definitely recommend if you are love seafood.
