We always enjoy the restaurant. The food is consistently good as is the service. It is friendly, honors reservations and makes you feel welcome. We reserve it mostly for special occasions, there are a number during the year.

My wife and I went to dinner here for the first time in a few years. It was my wife's birthday, so we had planned a night out. We started with sharing the calamari for an appetizer. It was certainly a large portion, plenty to share. However, the squid that was used was very large, not what would be expected for calamari. Though the coating was tasty , it was overcooked and tough. Next we split the butter lettuce salad. The kitchen did a nice job in splitting it for us, and the salad was very good. The dressing was sufficient, but not overly heavy. As it turned, the salad was the high point of the meal. We then each had the fish special; California black bass. It was served with white rice, sauteed vegetables and mushrooms with a peach chutney. Though the fish was cooked well, it was served skin side up with a flabby, non-crisped skin. This was very unappetizing to look at and certainly not appetizing to eat. The combination of the vegetables, mushrooms, peach on top of the rice was a little much in competing flavors.
Other reviews are quite favorable, perhaps this was an off night.

The staff and the owner, Freddie, took great care of us for my birthday dinner. I had the scallops and my husband had the Wagyu steak. Both perfectly cooked. The scallops had a sweet-hot bit of sauce with chipotle plum vinaigrette. & an amazing risotto with asparagus and mushrooms. We also shared Brussels sprouts and a salad to start and finished with a maple sweet potato cheesecake. A delicious meal in a relaxing setting. Will come back.

I picked this place bc of the fish and seafood options on the menu; all three of us had fish or shellfish; all three of us LOVED the food. I had been here prior years ago and the ambiance was better but it hasnt changed per se, we just had. REALLY loud party next to us. It's in an old beautiful house, but small parties and larger table tops don't work so well. If they could reconfigure some of the rooms and add an option for more quiet spaces that would be great. Definitely going back though, and soon. The scallops, black bass, and salmon all awesome.

Everything was great, the food was wonderful and our waitress was on point. The only thing that surprised me was the bathrooms were nasty. But overall we had a great experience and will be back

Our server was inattentive. We had to flag her down multiple times to get what we wanted. Then our food came out and my steak and potatoes were room temperature. I sent it back. It was our first time at this restaurant, but we won't be back.

It took a very long time to get our food and when it finally came my fish was raw inside. They had to take it back and cook it. By the time it came back, everyone else in my party had finished their meal. Also, my husband’s utensils were dirty. The second glass of wine he ordered was not correct but at that point we didn’t want to bother our very nice waitress with another issue. That said, the food is excellent and the ambiance wonderful. Just seemed to be a bad night for them.

I think people go to bernardins for the unique food and a supposedly quite atmosphere. That’s what it is probably 90% of the time.

I’ve never liked the food and this particular visit the noise level was terrible which is pretty funny considering that there were only two tables taken in the room.

An intimate date in an intimate house/restaurant. My wife had the emu and it was fantastic. I resisted the kangaroo for venison and was sufficiently pleased. This is fine dining. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Old house charm with a beautiful vine-covered patio.

Meals for 4 people were variable: pasta average, rib steak angus very tough, excellent calamari and sauce, scallops appetizer average. Corkage was $20 which we considered high for this city. Service straight forward but not friendly.
Waitstaff in front porch smoking as we exited restaurant.

Tofu on wife's vegetarian plate had too much char but my tandoori kangaroo was cooked perfectly rare. The restaurant was a little more noisy that I expected because of a business meeting in a side room close to us. One detractor was that on the open table reservation we put it was a special occasion because of my wife's birthday. I don't expect free stuff from the restaurant but an acknowledgement of the occasion would have been nice. Bread pudding and creme brulle was some of the best I have had in town.

Just a good place to enjoy a meal. The service is good. A good choice of wines available from moderately priced to expensive. Servers are knowledgeable about the menus and attentive.

Excellent meal. Chose Bernardin's for our monthly date night and was not disappointed. We started the night with calamari that was perfectly prepared - light batter with the whole calamari not just the rings. I got the "signature dish" (which was limited in number of servings available) of lobster on lobster; 1--1/4 lb lobster served over lobster ravioli with a champagne sauce. It was excellent! My husband had the brie stuffed chicken, which too was excellent. Everything was cooked perfectly. We shared a berry cobbler for dessert. Our server, Corey, was attentive and knowledgeable in the menu - answering all of our questions about the menu and offering great recommendations based on our questions. I would highly recommend Bernardin's.

We always enjoy ourselves when we go to Bernardin's. While the food is really wonderful, I feel like it could sometimes be better. I would like them to change their recipe for Escargot. It is prepared uniquely but the escargot is usually tough. This particular night, I got the special with was Bass prepared with a crab topping. The flavors were wonderful, but I felt the fish was a bit overcooked and the vegetables on the side were very sparse and just a touch underdone. One of our friends got the lamb. It was amazing! The kangaroo was also good. Another friend got the Emu and I felt that it was underdone and a bit chewy. But again, the flavor was great. We will continue to visit Bernardin's. We love the atmosphere and the creative food.
