   Bith the chef and the waitress ( unfortunately didn’t get her name, being dark) ate great. Food was great, plenty of fried rice, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The complimentary ive cream and birthday serenade for me waa great.

   I had a great birthday dinner tonight at Benihana Newport Beach. The service (thanks to Michelle), food (thanks to Michael Lee) and overall experience exceeded my expectations! Michelle was very attentive and was quick in addressing our needs She even mentioned that Benihana provides free photos for birthdays as well. Chef Michael Lee was funny, efficient and meticulous in serving us a delicious meal (how do the chefs multi task so well) as he checked the temperature of the scallops, shrimp and beef. Each was cooked well. We ordered the colossal seafood meal with scallop, HIBACHI COLOSSAL SHRIMP and lobster as well as a trio with steak/ chicken and shrimp with fried rice which all was delicious. The yellowtail carpaccio was fresh and delicious. Overall great experience and like the table setting here (makes for great entertainment) and would come back again!

   Another wonderful eating experience at Benihana's, Newport Beach. The chef always prepares the meals based on people's preferences. Two people did not want mushrooms, one person did not want onions, two people wanted spicy chicken, two people wanted vegetarian rice, and one person wanted spicy rice. The chef delivered each person's meal as per his/her request. In addition, the chef and server checked to see if anyone had allergies. In addition, I always have leftovers for another delicious meal

   We dine at the Newport Beach Benihana at least 6-10 times/year, and for a very long time, the experiences were almost universally good. However, on both this occasion and the one before, it took much longer than usual for our chef to arrive. I don't mind some delay, and like on previous occasions, we ordered multiple appetizers to carry us through. However, on this occasion, it took 75 minutes from the time we were seated for our chef to arrive. After an hour elapsed, I notified the front-of-house that we would wait no more than 10 more minutes before leaving. I was told our server would be notified, and the server did come to apologize and explain that they were waiting for a chef to become available. While I appreciated the explanation from the server, I could not understand why the staff had no knowledge of when a chef would "become available". How could they not know? By the time the chef finally arrived, I was prepared to leave and no longer had any appetite for the food. It was also my birthday, but by that time, I just wanted to leave and had no interest in celebrations, singing, ice cream, etc. The server did notify us, however, that we would receive a partial comp for the meal, and that was unprompted - kudos to the management for doing that on their own. The servers themselves were also excellent this time, by the way. I don't think my water glass ever went dry. In short, the restaurant did try to make it right, although I am very hesitant to revisit any time soon. For our family of four (4), the tab regularly surpasses $200 per visit, and I have no desire to part with this kind of money again for an experience that takes far too long, especially with young children who have limited patience.

   Way way too expensive for lunch it was half that price couple of years ago no wonder the place was empty compared to before l have been going there since early 80th

    Food was good, service was great, prices a bit high, noise was too loud. Definitely would do it again. Just be prepared for the noise.
