This was our weekly date night! I set reservations so we can make it to the movies on time.
1st we arrive a little early and asked to wait. About 20 mins late, I inquire about our table, we are getting ready to seat you. 5 mins and they seat us. Plz remember I said “date night” we are seated at a table with young children and one decides to start beating in the table with his chopsticks, while the mother smiles and encourages the loud, rude behavior. But after sitting for 15+ mins my husband gets up to inquire about what’s going on. The manager said we shouldn’t have planned other events for the evening. Needless to say we got up and walked out. In the 20 mins of sitting at the table, no one checked on us and no one came to bring a glass of water nor take our drink order. With new concern, they were ok with us leaving.
Find somewhere to go. If Management doesn’t care about your time or experience here then you’ve already made a bad decision to spend your hard earned money.
Hope your experience is better than mine!!
Very poor service, our chef was great but unfortunately the lack of service by our waiter made our visit extremely dissatisfying. We have been to many Benihana’s around the country and have always enjoyed our time there. This particular location was by far the worst experience we have ever had. Cannot express enough our frustration.
Wonderful birthday dinner for my teenage daughter, family and friends. Chef Rufini was great. Couldn’t have asked for better experience. Thank you!!
I was expecting better quality from the chef....as well as more personality. The cooking presentation was boring at best and they didn't engage anyone at the table. The food was ok (nothing special) and I expected more from past experience. Quality has gone down hill and we will not go back.
Never disappoints. I usually get the hibachi filet (which is very tasty), and this time I got the chicken. The food is always done right, and always delicious. The hibachi chef entertainment is always great - they do tricks with their spatula and fork, and an egg. The lunch menu is surprisingly affordable - I had a group of 12, and we were under $200 before tip. The wait staff also constantly refilled our drinks. One other tidbit - 3 of us in the group have shellfish allergies, and they have always been sure to check multiple times who has the allergy, and they cook our food first before the shellfish even touches the hibachi. Still one of my favorite restaurants. Side note - my manager is vegan, and he has always been able to find something delicious to eat here as well.
Went to the restaurant for my birthday with my wife, 83 year old mom, and 7 year old son with a 6:30pm reservation. Both mom and son go to bed fairly early and I thought we had plenty of time. After being seated, we waited for 1.5 hours before someone showed up to actually cook our food. We asked to get started numerous times prior but nobody seemed to care coupled with an extra helping of mild indifference.
If you're short staffed for whatever reason, you should tell your customers that the experience will take longer than expected and let them decide.
Arrived for a 6:00 reservation to be told that they only had 3 chefs working and we would have to wait until 6:30. No apology. Nothing.
We always find Benihana fun and relaxing, especially for the family. The noise level is enough to hide the sounds of our kids, yet low enough to have conversations. The chef cooking at the table is always fun to watch and the kids love it.
The areas to improve:
1) Table space - there is never enough room for all the drinks, plates, etc at the tables. Need more room!
2) Servers - the service for drinks and non-table food is a bit slow and sometimes rude
The cost is a bit high, but given the quality of food and the entertainment value it is worth it.
Great time had by all. Cook was entertaining and fun! Will definitely go back next year for our birthdays.
We waited for too long until our Chef arrived at our table. We came very hungry with a 10-year old who was constantly whining that his tummy hurts! I know it was not the Chef's fault, but you need to add more Chefs to shorten the wait time.
We had to wait an hour after our teservation started to finally be seated and served our soup and salad. The food was mediocre and overpriced.
It was my son's birthday and I took him and his friends there for dinner.
One of my son's friends was late arriving. They told us they would not seat us until everyone was there. Eventually they let us sit down but said that we'd have to order for the person who wasn't there.
We were assigned "Sandra" who prepared all our food in front of us. She was excellent and the kids enjoyed her very much.
The food was very good and the portion was sizable, but the dessert that comes at the end is a tiny ball of ice cream. My group of 14-15 year old boys were a little disappointed at the size of that considering the large plate of food they got.
Overall it was a fun and tasty dinner. Its a great place for a larger group.
Worst service I’ve ever experienced. I had to get my entire family refills at the bar several times. The server was rude and annoyed from the moment he took our order. Rufino was our Chef and my kids enjoyed his humor. Probably the only reason we didn’t walk out. I only provided a tip because I felt bad for the people cleaning the tables and the Chef.
If your local, just go to Sukura in Fair Lakes. This placed sucked and it was overpriced.
We haven't been to a Benihana in 30 years. They mailed a $30 off for my wife's bday. So we drove 40 miles to Dulles area. It was worth it. The filet was very tender and the tuna steak was delicious. We'll return soon! Plus my wife also got a free ice cream.
i have dined at this location 5 or 6 times and each would have rated 4 or 5 stars. this time i decided to try the lounge for hibachi rather than tepenyaki. i should have changed my mind when the manager said that they no longer use charcoal in the hibachi.
but i proceeded as planned. big mistake. my wife’s tempora was OK. i ordered the chateau brian medium rare. after waiting nearly 30 minutes the steak that was presented was not only well done but was cubed and mixed with the side vegetables. essentially a stir fry.
the manager deducted 25 per cent against the cost of steak but that did not compensate for a thourly unsatisfactory experience.
The food and service was great. We had sixteen people in our party and they accommodated us all in a very courteous and professional manner. Thank you for a great experience.
Always good food and service! 52nd wedding anniversary and 2 birthdays celebrated. Great time!
Been going for years, didn't enjoy this time around. Service was poor and cook wasn't experienced which is the "experience". Fodd wasn't very well seasoned and server never came to replenish drinks. I dont know that I will go again.
The server was particularly obnoxious. We sat down and before we had a chance to look ask questions he hurried us with our orders. When my mother tried to order a side salad he told her she couldn’t do it. Then he never placed the order for our appetizers or for rice both of which came 10/15 minutes after the food was ready. He also didn’t apologize for his mistake or come by to check and see how we were doing. After several complaints to the management we got our check and it was discounted but at this point I would never want to go back.
Service was not good and the atmosphere was poor. Floor was dirty. The chef looked like she was sleeping. Despite all that the food was good.
The service was incredibly slow. We were there for 2 hours from the time of our reservation until the time we left the restaurant (on a Thursday in August when the restaurant was NOT full). They were incredibly short staffed. Water was never re-filled and food did not come out at the right times. At the end of the meal, they took a picture for my daughter's 8th birthday. However, when we asked about the picture while leaving the restaurant and were told "the camera was broken" and it had been for a while. Nothing was offered in its place so we asked for the frame to put our own picture in it. So disappointing. Will never return.
I love their chicken fried rice bowl!
Overall I was very unimpressed. The floor were sticky like it was it was syrup everywhere. There was no showmanship from the cook. He was kinda not into it. Maybe I’ll try another location.
My experience today was terrible!!! Unfortunately not acceptable in our standards. We had a birthday to celebrate. First we had reservations for 8:15 pm and never got seated until almost 9:00 pm. Then our service was terrible, they never service us our rice, they did not had the proper sauces to go with our 5 and 6 cause dinner. They never had my salmon on the trade and the cook had to go get it and then everyone was eating and my food was not able to be prepare until almost everyone was done with there dinner. Services was terrible tonight. The level was noise, smoke from the fan not working properly and the level of how dirty the carpet and place was disgusting. I do not thing we will go back to Benihana’s in Dulles ever again and we definitely do not recommend. Others in our table said the same. What a terrible and disappointment this birthday celebration was.
The customer service was great but the chef was not that sociable
Food and experience at the table were great as usual. Unfortunately, the hostess ruined the experience with a bad attitude, lack of information, and a “customers suck” approach to her role. We waited 20 mins past our reservation on a Monday night when the restaurant was far from full. When asked, no proffer of information of why we were waiting well pass our scheduled time, she said she had to let the staff catch up. So, the restaurant’s problem became our problem. Hostess was rude and couldn’t have care less about our dining experience.
Overall it's pretty good, but there are just a few things that keep me from being wow'ed by this place. It seems like the portions are going down on what you get for what you pay. I feel like our plates weren't nearly as full as they used to be. The chef had a great presentation at the beginning of the show, but I didn't see any shrimp flips or any other fun thing during the rest of the cooking/performance. I also had made a note on the reservation to indicate it was my birthday, but the only way they knew was when I presented them with my certificate for my birthday meal. And the birthday singing/etc. was a little lacking. I also find the layout of the restaurant to be a little awkward.
The chef was very good, the seafood was nicely done, especially the calimari and scallops, and the meat was good. We used a Chef’s Table birthday reward which made the cost reasonable.
Server was overwhelmed with a large party behind us after delivering our water (forgot my wife’s drink, but we didn’t ask for it, was too late.) I never received a water refill and we weren’t asked about tea, ended up having it with the ice cream.
The rice should have been brought out before any of the hibachi food was put on our plates, I was mostly done and was left with rice and onions.
I like the hibachi experience, but they have done better in the past.
The Benihana at DTC is a beautiful restaurant. The food was wonderful. Our party was unfortunately seated in front of the kitchen door and adjacent to the bathroom - with two other parties. It was entirely too crowded at our table. Also, the bathroom was not clean - and at least two of the stalls did not have paper.
Excellent service and meal.
It was my Son’s 11th birthday
My birthday celebration. I love Benihana in Sterling..always have a great experience ! This time was not as good due to the Chef. We asked for mustard sauce and metioned the waitress went to the kitchen to get some. He shrugged his shoulders and said good luck. Normally one of the kitchen chefs prepares some rather quickly but unfortunately not this time. The waitress apologized..no big deal. But the Chef seemed to have an attitude during the meal prep and after the meal the other people at out table mentioned it too. I still like Benihana but would not like that Chef to prepare food for us again.
We booked Benihana for our son's 19th birthday. The cook was OK--still learning his bit. The host/waiter was good, but non alcoholic drinks and dishes were a bit overpriced. We had a nice time, but were not dazzled.
We had a great experience. Went to celebrate my son's 18th birthday. He had great time & the food was delicious. The presentation was very nice and service was superb. I would definitely recommend for the atmosphere, the excitement of seeing the food prepared right in front of you and the food is fresh and delicious. Great overall experience!
Dinner with fiancé & his parents. Male server/host came up to us as I was checking us in and said they were just 3 people multiple times as if I couldn’t be with them seemingly due to our different ethnicities . Chef at table seemed very inexperienced. Female server was nice enough. Sushi came out much later than anticipated when ordered as an appetizer. Shrimp tempura roll was very underwhelming but sushi combo platter was ok.
The food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. I came here to celebrate a birthday because my last visit years ago was pleasant, but it’s evident that prices have gone way up while food portions have gotten smaller - real penny pinchers.
The food is under-seasoned and over cooked. This is the third time in the last six months we have been to the Dulles, VA location and the steak, ordered medium-rare, was prepared medium-well. Additionally, the onions were under cooked. We've noticed a decline in the quality of the cooking over the last six months. It was one of our favorite restaurants. However, the Dulles location is dropping on my list of fun, go-to places for dinner.
Overall very impressed with the food and service! Special thanks to the manager, Ron, for being so involved and making sure everyone had a great experience this past Father's Day Weekend 2018! We will definitely be back to try the sushi there!
It seemed that prices were higher because it was Father's Day. The portions were small and one chicken breast split between 4 people.
My family and I really enjoyed our time, the food, service and atmosphere was awesome.
